Zany high-fashion Super Bowl helmets up for auction (PHOTOS)

Here's what happens when you mix Seventh Avenue couture with the National Football League culture — and results are just fabulous.

The closest any of these fashion designers have probably come to a concussion was a stumble on the catwalk, but a group of New York's top fashionistas were commissioned by Bloomingdale’s — teaming up with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the NFL — to create one-of-a-kind Super Bowl helmets that aren’t very functional on the gridiron but which will definitely help accessorize your new spring ensemble.

Or one of those NY/NJ Super Bowl soirees.

The 48 unique works of art — which include Nicole Miller’s striped creation with a floral crown, Diane von Furstenberg’s red animal-print motif and Dennis Basso’s helmet with a fur mohawk — are being auctioned off at bloomingdales.com/superbowlhelmets.

This fun number by John Varvatos includes faux rivets complementing a scarred metal background. Hellooo... Steelers fans.

The auction is up and running, and will accept bids through Feb. 4. Net proceeds will go to benefit the nonprofit NFL Foundation. The haute helmets will also be on display in Bloomingdale’s Lexington Avenue store windows until then.

Here's the complete photo gallery. Compliments of the N.Y. Post.
