Bristol Rovers midfielder Lee Mansell claimed he decided to give JJ O'Donnell a kiss to "avoid doing something silly" during his team's win against Gateshead last weekend.
And did it cause a stir.
And did it cause a stir.
Mansell and O'Donnell were involved in a brief confrontation during Friday's Football Conference match and, in order to diffuse the situation, Mansell decided to plant a kiss on his opponent's cheek.
The 32-year-old Mansell received a yellow card for his part in the incident and later heard it from his wife and his team-mates.
He clarified things via Twitter:
"We either clash heads and he goes down or I end up doing something silly," Mansell told the BBC.

"I did it to defuse the situation," he said. "It's the first time I've been booked for kissing someone."
