Saints fans cancel 'Rocky Run' following threats from Eagles fans: Report

The City Of Brotherly Love just got a little colder — even without a windchill.

Apparently, someone thought it would be a good idea for New Orleans Saints fans visiting Philadelphia to run in solidarity up the Art Museum stairs in advance of this Saturday’s Eagles vs. Saints playoff game at the Linc.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened next — after fired up Eagles fans got wind of the possibility of a perceived enemy stomping up their sacred steps.

After news of the Rocky Run spread, and threats were made via social media, the run was cancelled. Philadelphia police already have announced officers will attend the game dressed as Saints fans to stop Philly hooliganism.

It sounded like a fun idea — in theory. The Rocky statue and the running of steps are always a must for anybody visiting Philadelphia. But threats by the Eagles faithful put the kibosh on the chance of anyone screaming "Drew Brees" instead of "Adriaaaan" at the Rocky replica — an icon almost as beloved as Nick Foles right now.

The suggestion came from NOLA.com and the Times-Picayune newspaper, which labeled the event the Who Dat “Rocky” Run.

On Friday, Michael DeMocker from the Times-Picayune announced that the event was cancelled.

And in the NOLA.com guide for Saints fans visiting Philadelphia for the came is this bit of advice from a Philadelphia expat who now works for the site:

Philly fans will share food, beer, even tailgate with you, if you’re respectful. Now, this may not go over well with our readers, but wearing Saints gear is not a wise idea, unless you have the number of people to support you. It’s a late Saturday night game and Philly fans will be tailgating all day. Saints fans should be safe and assume that Philly fans will NOT want to see Saints colors beforehand, and especially not afterwards if the Saints win.

And don't call a cheesesteak a po'boy.

  1. You people are a class act. We here in Who Dat country treat all fans well. No matter what colors they are wearing. To say we shouldn't wear our colors because of a probable attack really shows how gifted you people are. No fan should have to worry about their safety at any sporting event. That's a shame how some people represent their town.
