Let's see. The throw beats the runner to third. The third baseman has the ball a full second before the runner reaches the base. So the runner is probably out. Right? Wrong.
It hard to believe Mets third baseman Daniel Murphy muffed this tag on the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo during this double-steal on Wednesday night. So let's go to the video:
It doesn't matter whether Rizzo's cleats got caught in the dirt or he just plain out-juked Murphy, anyway you look at it ... he's safe!
The call was challenged by Mets manager Terry Collins because he didn't understand how somebody could possibly be safe on a play like that. But, after a short review, the ruling stood.
