Juan Lagares made two sensational catches on one amazing play at Citi Field on Sunday. It's too bad the acrobatic double-catch still only counted for one out.
The New York Mets outfielder raced in on Pittsburgh Pirates' Jeanmar Gomez's third inning liner to centerfield and made a shoestring catch of the ball, which he bobbled, then grabs again before tumbling to the turf. Lagares' concentration and second effort on the play are something to behold.
Lagares' defensive gem wasn't good enough for the offensively anemic Mets who wasted another fine outing by starter Matt Harvey and fell to the Pirates, 3-2.
