At the head coach's season-ending press conference Monday— a day after the Patriots got trounced by the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game — a glum Belichick told the media:
"I'll be here. You'll have to deal with me again next year. I know that's disappointing for a lot of you. Until I'm told otherwise, I plan on being here."
Belichick — the longest-tenured coach in the NFL is reportedly signed through next season and was paid $7.5 million this year — had led the Patriots to three Super Bowls in his first five seasons but has gone 0-2 in the big game since. His last championship trophy was hoisted in 2004 — eight seasons ago.
"We won 13 games. We're playing in the AFC championship game," he said. "Not a whole lot of teams are saying that."
