Hoboken mayoral candidate zings Eli Manning with open letter to big brother Peyton

You can bet Hoboken councilman Tim Occhipinti will lose more than Eli Manning's vote in his quest to be mayor of this New Jersey city after sending an open letter criticizing Eli to big brother Peyton. Even if the Giants are still losing.

Occhipinti has linked the Giants’ miserable season to Manning’s endorsement of Dawn Zimmer, his opponent and the incumbent in the Hoboken mayoral race. Manning resides with his family in Hoboken.

The Occhipinti ticket  singled out Eli in an open letter to his brother Peyton, under the guise that big brother can help correct Eli’s "recent questionable judgment on the field and in Hoboken politics."

The letter — written before last week’s loss to the Eagles plunged the Giants to 0-5 — says:

"In the past few weeks since baby brother agreed to throw his hat into Hoboken politics, and agreed to attend our opponent’s fundraiser; the Giants have lost every game, and Eli has had a very tough go of it."

What follows is a breakdown of Eli’s rash of turnovers and the superiority of Peyton’s undefeated Broncos:

"You must have been proud of little brother Eli Manning, when he hoisted the Lombardi Trophy a few years ago, winning the Super Bowl in a dramatic fashion and earning his second ring and second Most Valuable Player Award. Now, with the Giants starting 0-4, it is looking as if you might be the only Manning playing in the Super bowl in NJ this February. We are writing this letter in the hopes of changing that, though. We are hoping you can talk some sense into our Giants quarterback."

 The letter concludes:

"The Giants can get back on track and back to their winning ways! Let him know that 0-4 quarterbacks get involved in politics. Winning quarterbacks stick with what is happening on the field. Go Big Blue."

Remember councilman, Jersey is still a blue state — Big Blue that is.
