According to conversations he's had with some current Jets players, Tomlinson — who retired from the team after the 2011 season — believes Sanchez is close to losing his job as starting quarterback.
"Well (Sanchez's) almost at the end of his rope," Tomlinson said on NFL Network's First on the Field. "Talking to guys in this locker room, they're starting to not trust Sanchez as a football player. Turning the football over, inconsistent play."
Rex Ryan has stood behind Sanchez as his starter, but the head coach hasn't said how much rope he'll give Sanchez before he decides to go with the backup QB — Tim Tebow.
Tomlinson seems to think the Jets quarterback has a few weeks at the most to produce better numbers.
"And here's the thing," added Tomlinson. "They have to get better play from the quarterback position. Rex Ryan has said it over and over again, but I think they're going to give Sanchez two or three starts to try to turn this team around, and then they're going to go with Tim Tebow."
When the talk in the locker room goes public, it's a pretty sure sign the players want it out there.
