Red Bulls youth coach slashed to death on Manhattan street

New York City police are looking for a suspect in the horrific murder of a beloved New York Red Bulls youth soccer instructor who was slashed in the neck and torso and had his ear cut off Sunday morning.

Michael Jones was killed near Union Square early Sunday after an altercation with an unidentified man.

The 25-year old Jones — originally from Liverpool, England — was a coach with the Red Bulls Youth Training Program.  He lived in West Harrison, N.Y..

Police reported that Jones was arguing with someone just before he was attacked, but it is not clear if the two men were acquaintances.  Detectives are searching for a male suspect with a ponytail.

Chilling video footage from a security camera shows the alleged killer calmly walking down the street with his hands in his pockets after the bloody attack. A cell phone (reportedly Jones') was found at the murder scene.

Earlier Saturday evening, Jones was reportedly out with his sister and a female friend.  They went separate ways around 11:30 p.m..  Jones was murdered five hours later at 4:30 a.m. on the Greenwich Village sidewalk.

In a statement, the Red Bulls called Jones a "fantastic coach who loved soccer."
