Cam Newton: 'Something's gonna have to change real fast'

Cam Newton faced the media, after his Carolina Panthers lost a close game to to the Dallas Cowboys, and gave another glum assessment of his and his team's play on the field.

The Carolina quarterback's post game speeches have become such downers, they should be called depressing conferences.

He looked like a scolded child when he greeted the media after the 36-7 loss to the New York Giants and didn't look much better after Sunday's 19-14 loss.

After the game, Newton at least managed to keep his eyes open and his head held a little higher when he told reporters that everyone on the team "had to do better ... including myself."

It sounds like the second year time bomb is ticking away and he warned the media to bring a suggestion box because he's out of answers on how to turn things around.

"This taste.  This vibe.  I'm not buying it, man.  I don't know what it is," said Newton.  "But something's gonna have to change.  Something's gonna have to change real fast."

The Cowboys (3-3) rallied after the Panthers (1-5) took a 14-13 lead late into the game but two late Dallas field goals sealed the deal for the visitors.

Newton passed for 233 yards but the offense was sporadic and was held to a frustrating eight three-and-outs.  Newton had a critical first down pass to Greg Olsen called back after Dallas called a dubious time out.

A lot was expected from Newton after a sensational rookie season but it looks like both he and the team  are having a hard time delivering.  Call it a sophomore jinx or just NFL defenses catching up to him.  Either way, the close losses are taking a toll.

Panthers guard Jordan Gross was a little more positive.

"If you want a bright spot, we're a fourth-and-one away from a lot of wins here," he said.

Oh yeah, at least Newton rocks the brown sweater.

  3. All young QB's have a different learning curve, remember back in the day most rookie QB's took 3-5 years so hold the jelly.

  4. did any of you actually SEE the game? It's no wonder Cam is so down. the officiating IMO was so blatantly against the Panthers in the last quarter when the game was on the line that it looked like a "fixed" game. not saying it was, but the TV commentators had plenty to say about it as well! You don't think much about a blown call here and there, but when so many are blown in the last quarter when the game is on the line really makes you wonder what's going on. There's just too much money in pro football so it makes you wonder if things are "fixed" like wrestling!!! It's beginning to be not worth watching if you ask me. These guys made the high school replacement refs look great by comparison.

  5. I agree you cant fake NFL standards His biggest problem is he is on a team that needs help in some araes and he needs to put the Superman bit down until he can strap on a Championship Belt Then it would seem appropriate to go Clark Kent on everybody and I know its just youthfull exhuberation but this aint College son! And if your worth a Sh!t in this league such as defense then 2nd year means they have tape from last year,C'mon now son your just gonna have to bare down and put your work in!

  6. Cam Newton is a winner, and winners do not accept defeats graciously. Most of you have never even strapped up beyond high school football. The Panthers have made some poor personnel choices. Don't blame Cam for screaming bloody murder, He is living a freaking nightmare and some you fairweather sports fans want him to come on the air and play nice or give the we'll get them next time speech. Get him so damned weapons to use, T.O....., Plexico, Chad...., are all siting home. WTF???

  7. I'm inclined to agree. In fact I'd like to see all of the post-play celebration disappear, with athletes instead acting like they've made good plays before--and that their employers fully expect them to make more good plays in the future. It's especially dumb (and tasteless) when the "LOOK AT ME, I'M SO GOOD" prance after a nice play comes when that player's team is getting it's ass kicked....Are you listening Cameron Newton (among many others)?????

    End,
