Victor Cruz finally got a chance today to pay tribute to his late grandmother Lucy with a special salsa dance after scoring on a perfect 80-yard pass from Eli Manning against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Cruz had a lot of things to put behind him this week, the three dropped passes on opening night against the Cowboys and, more importantly, the death of his 77-year old inspiration last Monday. She was the woman who taught him to do his trademark Latin dance after a score.
The Giants wide receiver's TD catch not only came at a crucial time in the game but at an important point in his life.
After the 80-yard catch-and-run, Cruz did his end zone salsa dance and then blew a double-kiss towards the blue skies above MetLife Stadium. Everyone in the stadium yelling "Cruuuuzz" knew who they were meant for.
Cruz's TD capped off a comeback by the Giants — who trailed 24-13 and — after the two-point play, had come back to tie the game at 27.
You know somewhere up above his grandmother Lucy was watching every step of his dance.
Oh yeah, the Giants went on to win their first game of the season 41-34.
