Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle and five-time Pro Bowler Jason Peters was arrested in Monroe, Louisiana early Wednesday morning after reportedly drag racing and resisting a police officer by flight, reported NFL.com.
According to the arrest affidavit, Deputy L. Deal observed a white Camaro and blue sedan at the red light of U.S. 165 North and Central Street around 4:45 a.m.
The officer observed the two cars at a stop light before they took off in a way that made him believe they were racing. The cop tried to pull over both cars, but while one pulled over, the car Peters was driving took off. The Camaro that Peters was driving hit speeds of up to 100 miles per hour before finally pulling over in the parking lot of a shopping complex.
Peters was asked to exit the vehicle, which he did. He was then cuffed, arrested, and taken to the station where he was booked, according to NFL.com.
"We are aware of the reports that Jason Peters was arrested this morning in Louisiana," the Eagles said in a statement obtained by The Associated Press. "We have been in contact with Jason, and due to the legal nature of this matter, we will not have any further comment at this point."
Peters, a five-time Pro Bowl pick, signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2004. The Eagles traded a 2009 first-round draft pick to acquire Peters from the Bills during the 2009 offseason.
He missed all of the 2012 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon, but he has been fully cleared for participation in Eagles practices this offseason.
One question surrounding the return of the Eagles tackle from injury was if Peters would be able to regain the speed that made him one of the elite tackles in the league.
If this run-in with the law is any indication, at least Peters' gas pedal foot sounds OK.
