Hakeem Nicks arrives for Giants mini-camp after skipping OTAs

Is that a smile you see on Eli Manning's face? You bet it is.

Hakeem Nicks finally showed his own face as the Giants prepare for their mandatory three-day mini-camp at their Timex Performance Center facility Tuesday morning and you know nobody was happier than the Giants quarterback to see his M.I.A. receiver.

This was the expected course of action for Nicks, who irked coach Tom Coughlin by not showing up for any of the team’s organized activities the past two weeks, after telling Coughlin he would be there.

The OTAs were voluntary — and Nicks could not be fined for missing them — but Manning was hoping he could get an early jump on the season by working out with his favorite target this spring.

Nicks would have incurred fines totaling $66,150 if he were to miss all three days of the mandatory camp .

"I should have done a better job of reaching out to him [Coughlin]," admitted Nicks.  "But I'm here now."

Nicks is coming off arthroscopic left knee surgery and was not going to do much, if anything on the field at the OTAs or this minicamp. It remains to be seen if he practices at all the next three days. Last year, Nicks broke his right foot in an OTA practice. He is entering the last year of his contract.

Victor Cruz is not going to attend this camp. He cannot be fined because he is not under contract and still trying to hammer out a deal.

One waltz down and one more salsa to go.
