Jason Kidd helped from club before DWI crash

Jason Kidd's first headline as a New York Knick wasn't as much a smash as it was a smash-up.  The newly signed point guard was busted for drunken driving early Sunday morning after crashing his car into pole after a night of partying in the Hamptons.

Now, TMZ has published photos which show the 39-year old NBA star being carried out of the East Hampton nightclub SL East shortly before crashing his car.  The website reports that Kidd left the club after breaking a light fixture he tried to hang from.

One photo shows the bent over Kidd being held up by another man as he left the club an hour before wrecking his Cadillac Escalade.

"He was in no condition to drive," a source told the New York Daily News.  "He was not carried out, but he was definitely holding on to some friends."

The crash occurred just four days after Kidd signed a three-year, $9.5 million contract with the Knicks and, ironically,  the downed pole knocked out cable service to customers of his new boss— Cablevision and Knicks owner James Dolan.

Kidd was treated at Southampton Hospital with minor injuries before facing going to court.  He faces a misdemeanor charge and was released on his own recognizance after the Sunday morning arraignment.

"Jason has pleaded not guilty to a DWI charge and awaits further court proceedings," said Kidd's lawyer, Ed Burke Jr..

Other sources told the Daily News that Kidd's wife, former model Porschla Coleman, who was sober, drove Kidd away from the club, but it was not immediately clear how he ended up behind the wheel and crashed near his $5.9 million home.

Police reported that Kidd was the only one in the vehicle and was found sitting on the ground next to the wreck after waiting 45 minutes for the cops.

Kidd and his wife had been at a private charity function before making their way to the club around midnight.  While at the Hamptons hotspot, Kidd was spotted dancing and downing vodka.
