Jeter starts Farewell Tour by getting hit by pitch (VIDEO)

The good news during Derek Jeter's first plate appearance of his last season as a player — he got to first base.

The bad news — he got hit by a pitch.

The Yankee captain got plunked on the left forearm by a Scott Feldman 0-1 fastball, sending him twirling out of the batter’s box and shaking his left arm in pain.

While each and every Jeter fan held their collective breaths, Jeets brushed it off and took his base.

“That woke me up,” Jeter said after the Yankees sleepwalked through a 6-2 loss to the Astros in their season opener. “Opening Day, I think everyone’s always a little nervous, anxious. You have butterflies. I was probably a little more nervous because I hadn’t played in a while. And then when I got hit, it hurt, so I wasn’t nervous anymore. It probably helped me out a little bit.”

Sounds like this Farewell Tour is going to be a lot of fun.
