After Starling Marte legitimately stole second base, Brandon Phillips tried pulling one of the oldest tricks in the book to get the Pirates baserunner out — the old pull-the-foot-off-the-base gag.
While Phillips' prank play was pretty obvious, he still tried to sell it to veteran second-base umpire Jerry Lane who saw the whole thing go down.
All he got was some laughs from Marte and a finger-wag from Lane.
That's a no-no in any ump's book.
