My Odd Sports Phobia Has Become A Cautious Political One

By Tony Mangia

I’ve lived a lot of the past few years of my life under the quirky maxim that when it comes to any sort of first time meeting where you put your finances, business dealings, networking or health into the hands and/or decision of another person, it is never wise to wear your team, city or school allegiance on your head, your back or your sleeve. It’s a peculiar ritual — or de-ritual depending on how you look at it — where I check my attire before encountering any contractors, work superiors, medical technicians, repairmen and even doctors hoping not to offend them with that affiliation.

Silly maybe...  and possibly bizarre, but what if your mild-mannered dentist — who, according to my rationale, unbeknownst to you, turns into a frenzied Rangers fan in the Blue Seats from October until April — just noticed your Islanders jacket hanging in the waiting room. Sorry, twenty-six years of frustration just turned that quick filling into an excruciating root canal. Now you know his pain too. I even check the diplomas at doctor’s offices just to make sure they aren’t Georgetown or Villanova grads in case I start yapping about my St. John’s teams. We aren’t very good right now, but we are still deeply-embedded rivals.

I am not all consumed by this anxiety, but sometimes my half-serious idiosyncrasy does trickle down to even more casual encounters. I mean who knows if that deli counter worker making your sub isn’t a Knicks fan and they notice strutting in wearing a Nets game shirt emblazoned with Kevin Durant on the back. That could mean one less meatball on that hero sandwich — or worse, they add something less tasty. A psychological one-upsmanship on their part. How about getting a flu shot at CVS right next to your “Big Blue” Giants tattoo and noticing the pharmacist is wearing a Jets jersey under her smock possibly means that pinch of a needle just turned into a punch.

Okay, fit me with a straight jacket, but are these thoughts any worse than knocking on wood, avoiding walking under a ladder or crossing your fingers?

Call it a silly phobia or even outright paranoia (I call it a sort of street smarts), but for quite a while now I’ve always speculated that wearing my New York Yankees cap could be seen as bragging to some parties and the difference between a reasonably-priced $400 brake job and the same one for $500, if the estimate comes from a mechanic who’s a die-hard Red Sox or Mets fan.

And while having the same rooting interest with this person could roll the other way as an advantage, I think many people these days are more hurtful to their opponents than helpful to those of their own allegiance.

Hell, while I always poured an honest shot into everybody's cocktails when I bartended, if you were wearing an Eli Manning jersey, well… let’s just say that bottle stayed crooked a little longer.

This twisted notion of other people’s inner hatred of rival teams and cities might come from my own personal malice towards disliked opponents and their fandom, but my reprisals never go much  further than a good natured ribbing and moving on with my life. Cheer and let cheer, I say.

I don’t know if there is any evidence that my odd conspiracy affliction has ever been scientifically diagnosed (rivalitis? teamophobia?), but I can’t deny that at first glance of someone wearing an opponent’s jersey my initial reaction is about how much I despise that team and associate that person with it as well. It’s not a serious and savage hatred, but a loathing most sports fans can relate to — especially when your team isn’t doing well and theirs is. You sort of groan inside.

These days group bonding has become more than just about sports and has been taken to another level and a potentially dangerous one — political affiliation.

Except for that annoying Boston pal who always says “wicked Sawx,” I find that I can still hang out and joke about sports with friends who cheer for teams which I openly hope break records for mediocrity. I can’t say the same about political parties. And since I am a Trump supporter, in some circles during these times, I might as well have leprosy.

The division between the two political parties (Lefties and Trump really) has divided this country like we haven’t seen since the ‘60s… the 1860s. It’s Yankees/Red Sox, Jets/Patriots, Giants/Cowboys and Rangers/Islanders rolled into one.

Sure I’ve been razzed in just about any city, from every team when I wear anything Yankees, but never been physically threatened of harassed. The Bronx Bombers just might be the Donald Trump of sports — you either love them or hate them. And just like there are idiot Yankees fans, there are plenty of dopes on the Right, but the fervor and vitriol I see from the Left makes me almost want to hug Mookie Betts.

I’m not going to pretend that the Right doesn't have its share of dirt bags, but the the nastiness and calculated underhandedness of the Left is what I want to address from my position as a Conservative.

Many of my so-called friends stopped returning my calls — if only for the offense of having a choice and voting for Trump. Previous BFFs now consider me an FU. It seems hysterical Liberals have to throw the F-word around a lot to get attention. One day having drinks together and now, within those same assemblages, I am about as welcome as AOC ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. I still don’t remember this sort of separation or exile during the Obama years. It was a rare time when Obama and politics came up at all in the company of people and I don’t remember any instances of assault or retribution against anyone wearing an Obama “Hope and Change” t-shirt  during his eight years as president if it did. And I surely never dumped a friend for voting for Obama.

Never mind the main-stream news media, you can’t even read a single Sports Illustrated article these days without the sportswriter somehow finding a way to slip in a subliminal or outright anti-Trump smack down. What really concerns me is how this misguided aggression by the left is affecting every day life of regular US citizens. This unbridled wrath from the Left leads me back to my original hang-up and how it now affects showing your political leanings in public.

It’s not so far fetched to think wearing anything “Trump” or even anything red could lead to an impromptu confrontation made even more dangerous because of today’s political climate at any time and in any locale. It’s in the news all the time. I’ve now begun to take my assumptions in a more serious light. Affiliating yourself with anything Trump puts a target on your back and has become dangerous in a public or private venue.

Forget about Liberal lightweights who turn into anonymous mean girls on Twitter, I’m talking about how easily some crackpot Leftists get triggered by a word or go ballistic on MAGA hats in public. Normal pacifists, who never had a street fight in their lives, turn into wild-eyed lunatics at the mention of Trump. I’ve witnessed this phenomenon in person. They become the drunken Eagles fans of politics. Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen Lefties gang up on politicians inside restaurants and physically intimidate Trump supporters leaving some of his rallies. Presumed Trump supporters are also at risk. Fast food employees have not only refused service to law enforcement officers, but who knows how far a deranged Never Trumper will take it considering what some of these cowardly burger-slingers could add to the take-out before they say, “Here’s your order, sir” with a sinister grin.

Despite how much the Right likes to think that these Liberal kooks only come out of their mommy’s basement to wreak havoc in public every so often, the fact is they are in our midst, on our streets, in our businesses and workplaces everyday.

So why wouldn’t I question how far some lunatics will take it?

Is it possible some people have flunked an interview, lost a job, were refused a bank loan or got left waiting on a hospital gurney a little longer just because the attendant doesn’t like President Trump and the person under their watch had the audacity to express a different political view with a hat, pin or flag within their sanctum walls?

Who knows what is considered offensive and could set a Leftie off these days? At the drop of a sneaker, the Betsy Ross flag was made racist by Colin Kaepernick and his plantation owner Nike. The international hand sign for “OK” now mean white power when held at a certain angle and who knows what new words or symbols Liberals will decide is a conservative “dog whistle” when they wake up and hashtag it. You'd better watch your P’s and Q’s. Oops, isn’t Q some sort of radical right-wing conspiracy group?

I’m not an activist and a torn Clash t-shirt was probably the most political thing I ever wore in my life ... back in the 80s. I don’t wear a Trump shirt or hat out of choice, but don’t like the fact that it can provoke a scuffle which could escalate into a full out brawl or worse — a viral tweet — if I did. I don’t need the hassle of some loudmouth pipsqueak who I could probably slap down in a second getting in my face. Who needs the aggravation? Nowadays, I continually find myself muting Fox News when I call my credit card or cable company in fear a bitter representative would hear it in the background and put me on an even longer hold or do something computery in order to make my life a technological hell. When I see a MAGA 2020 sign on somebody’s lawn these days, I instinctively take a quick glance around to see if some cowardly dirt bag is sneaking up to stomp it, then wonder how long it will be before they do.

The possibility of anti-Trump sabotage is not so far-fetched. Thank about it. If these so-called progressive miscreants — so bent out of shape about refusing to accept Trump’s victory in 2016, — are frenzied enough to spit on an unsuspecting Trump supporter exiting a rally or harass an elderly couple going to a conservative meeting in public, what’s stopping a rotten few from stealthily defiling a meal or sneakily creating havoc in the guise of a company representative just because you don a Trump 2020 campaign shirt?

You see it all the time on social media where anonymous trolls, who never stepped into any sort of fight ring in their lives suddenly grow bold behind the keyboard of a computer, then spinelessly defame or dox people who have opposing political views. The radical Left seems to find joy in disrupting other people's lives more out of spite than principle.

They have taken their angry attacks and disruptions out of the political arenas — rallies, forums and town hall meetings — and taken it to public domain. Senator Mitch McConnell’s wife getting harassed at a restaurant or Vice-president Pence getting booed in the audience of a Broadway show. Just look at the outrage after Liberal darling Ellen DeGeneres had the gall to sit next to President George Bush in a private suite at an NFL game. Her own people cannibalized her.

But they are public figures and it’s frightening to think that someone could get beat up in a California bathroom just for wearing a MAGA hat (in Russian yet) like what recently happened to a man in a Hermosa Beach restaurant or a conservative  journalist being attacked by Antifa radicals in Portland before actually being portrayed as the criminal by left-leaning media. Even in good old tolerant and inclusive New York City there have been more a few cases of regular citizens going about their own business being publicly attacked for the triggering offense of wearing a MAGA hat or, like at a private party in Tennessee, being punched for just wearing a red one.

Just proving there are some serious cases of TDS out there and that the incidents aren't just isolated.

Take for instance a few disturbing and violent anti-Trump attacks which happened on three corners of the country in recent weeks.

In the first case in point, a video shows a peaceful group named "Students For Trump" at Arizona State University being confronted on campus by a wild-eyed man who yells obscenities and screams "slash their throats" in front of the table they were seated at before the creep slithered away.

Then, in New Hampshire, police arrested another joyless Never-Trumper for assaulting three people outside a polling station, but not before the 34-year-old bully slapped a 15-year-old boy across the face outside of a tent occupied by several Trump supporters.

Trump-hating man arrested in New Hampshire.

Last, but not least, another unbalanced Trump denier, according to police in Jacksonville, Florida, took his hatred to a higher level after he purposely rammed his van into a tent of pro-Trump volunteers who were registering voters in a Walmart parking lot. Luckily, no one was injured in the sinister act which could have spilled much blood.

After he was arrested, 27-year-old Gregory Timm tried to validate his four-wheeled assault by saying, "Someone had to do it." Timm is free on bail.

We’ve heard all of the perceived reasons the Left has so much hatred towards Trump. They have labeled him as racist, anti-LGBTQ and thuggish — using only the media’s slanted fake news stories and Twitter troll hashtags as evidence — as well as bombastic, childish and narcissistic (The last three of which I agree) and then tag anyone who supports this president in the same perceived way. I’ve noticed the recent violent tone in many of my old friends’ social media posts regarding Trump. One time acquaintances who I know never have, or couldn’t have, punched their way out of Elizabeth Warren’s paper teepee, now talk like the original Teflon Don, John Gotti, setting up a Mafia hit.

It isn’t hard to see where the disgruntled Left is getting its cowardly cues. Look no further than the sneaky Democrats in Congress and their partisan, closed door impeachment inquiry inquisitions… I mean “sessions” in the basement of the House.  Or the schools indoctrinating children by changing or erasing history to fit a Liberal agenda.

And then check out your institutes of higher learning. Wasn't it some anarchist college professor at NYU who organized his brainwashed lemmings into storming Grand Central Station with their confrontational anti-cop stance last month?

Call it precaution or paranoia if you’d like, but it’s not like I’m over-exaggerating the possibility of more troublesome scenarios. I grew up in and around the grittier streets New York City past and learned simple things to avoid confrontation early on — like never flash a wad of cash in public or make eye contact with that brooding loner on the subway. I didn’t walk down a darkened alley in a rough neighborhood just looking for trouble. I still follow those same rules now — even on safer NYC streets. The real threat nowadays to me isn’t homeless psychopaths or getting jumped, it’s getting mugged by Liberal mobs with iPhone cameras — the same annoying twerps who never threw down one-on-one in their entire lives now gang up on someone for having a different opinion.

And just like I don’t go around robbing people, it doesn't mean I don't know how a hold up is done. Self-preservation is usually all about seeing a situation before it plays out.

Nobody ever wants to say why didn’t I see that coming?

Just ask the Democrats about 2016. Look what they've turned into.

Colin Kaepernick or Carli Lloyd: Who's more likely to wear an NFL uniform this year?

By Tony Mangia

Now that the NFL's 53-man rosters have taken shape, there are still a couple of interesting pubic relations roster conundrums left swirling around the front offices which could rear their heads soon. Namely the possibility of Carli Lloyd becoming the first women ever to play in the NFL and the return of Colin Kaepernick — who many consider the first qualified man to be denied playing in the league.

Both are intriguing issues for both general managers and owners alike, and the signing of one could become a PR dream or nightmare depending on a single foot or a knee.

Both athletes have created controversy in their own regard, Lloyd with her excessive, over-the-top goal celebrations for the US team during the USNWT's 13-0 rout of Thailand in the Women's World Cup and for Kaepernick for his ... well, lack of enthusiasm honoring the country during pre-game National Anthems.

Unlike Kaepernick, Lloyd was lucky enough to actually step onto an NFL practice field this summer and memorably kicked a 55-yard field goal for fun during a joint practice with the Ravens and Eagles.

The kick was recorded on video and created a lot of buzz.

The FIFA Player of the Year split not only the uprights in the highly publicized video, but divided the debate of women kicking in a man's sport into two separate parties. Interesting concept was how some saw it, while others cited Lloyd's size and lack of football experience more than gender as major obstacles to overcome.  She also took two extra steps to the ball before nailing the kick. Age is also a factor. Thirty-seven years old is also pretty old for any NFL player ... even kickers.

"Is there a female that possesses all those qualities and is good enough to be there, sure, why not?," she said afterwards. "I'm not trying to be a running back or a quarterback," Lloyd told the NFL Network. "That would be an epic fail. But I do know I can kick a ball very well."

A couple of unnamed teams reportedly had conversations with Lloyd regarding the opportunity to try out as a kicker. She declined due to previous soccer game engagements, but it doesn't sound like she's given up or doesn't have the support to pursue this challenge.

Last week, NFL Hall of Fame kicker Morton Anderson posted a video to Lloyd saying, "I'd love to work with you." Not many people get the chance to train with the Great Dane and the offer is still on the table. Sooo ...

There were a lot of naysayers on Twitter, but one of the most viewed tweets was by Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen who wasn't as accommodating: "Sound sweet til somebody block kick and all of a sudden she on defense" he began, with a few hysterically laughing emojis for emphasis.

As for Kaepernick, the NFL pariah can't even get a job as a sideline water boy. According to collusion conspiracies, the former 49er still remains a free agent solely for his role in igniting a anti-police brutality movement during the 2016 season, but even President Trump, who criticized the activist quarterback as "unpatriotic" in the past threw in his own extra point about NFL owners.

"If he's good enough, I know these people, they would sign him in a heartbeat," he said. They will do anything to win games."

You wouldn't know it by the current rosters of the NFL. The Broncos, Cowboys, Jaguars, Vikings, Browns and Bills all have unproven backup quarterbacks or nobody at all. It will be interesting to see if any team breaks the so-called invisible wall.

As always, it's a game of musical chairs with kickers in the NFL. The Jets, Buccaneers and Bears are just a few of the teams who are desperate for a reliable kicker, and there will probably be at least another half-dozen teams looking for replacements before the end of the season. Is Lloyd the answer to a legitimate problem or a public relations freak show? There are probably a hundred men's college soccer players who could kick a 55-yard field goal in a practice setting with nobody bearing down from the scrimmage line. Bigger, stronger guys who don't need two extra steps to push it through.

And of Kaepernick? Well, two years is a long layoff despite all of his workout videos and his days out of the NFL clock.

These are two individuals with probably a 50/50 support along divided battle lines who could make or break a team's fan base. One representing experience, but building a wall between politics, the other untested, but breaking down barriers.

So who is more likely to don an NFL uniform this season?

I'm guessing neither.

Olivia Culpo dumps Tim Tebow over lack of sex in relationship: Report

It looks like Tim Tebow has been cut once again — this time by his girlfriend.

The former NFL quarterback — known for his wildcat play on the gridiron — just got dumped by his model girlfriend Olivia Culpo after a two-month relationship — reportedly because he won't have sex with her.

Culpo, a former Miss USA, was first reported to be seeing Tebow in early October. She has told friends that she can't deal with the famously abstinent star's sex-less lifestyle.

"He was really into her," a source close to the model told Confideni@l, "he was sending her love letters and cute notes and professing his love for her."

And Culpo apparently needed more than cuddles.

"She had to break up with him because she just couldn't handle it," an insider told the gossip site, "He still hits her up, but she just can't deal with the sex thing. He's pretty adamant about it, I guess."

Perhaps Culpo had hoped she could bust Tebow's cherry like she did with ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas, who famously wore a "promise ring," swearing off sex before marriage.

That pair started dating in the summer of 2013, and by September 2014 the one-time Jonas Brothers member told HuffPo Live that he had taken the ring off.

It's not the first time sex has become an obstacle in Tebow's love life.

When he split with girlfriend Camilla Belle after a couple of months in 2009, it was also widely speculated at the time that the Disney channel star was bothered by his chastity.

Dez Bryant says last-place Cowboys will still 'run the East' (VIDEO)

Dez Bryant didn't let Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Giants take any of the bluster out of the Cowboys' goal of winning the NFC East title — even before he hit the locker room.

The Cowboys, who have now lost four games in a row since Tony Romo went down with a broken collarbone in Week 2, face an uphill battle to even make the playoffs. But that didn't phase the sidelined wide receiver as he was walking off the field at MetLife Stadium and brashly told Giants fans that the Cowboys are "still gonna run the East" this year.

Considering that the Cowboys (2-4) will go with either Brandon Weeden or Matt Cassel for at least the next three weeks, that's a mighty bold statement from Bryant.

Romo isn't expected to return until Week 11, which means the Cowboys will have to play the Seahawks and the Eagles in the next two weeks without him.

Bryant is hoping to get back on the field for next Sunday's game against Seattle. But beating the Seahawks with Cassel or Weeden at quarterback is going to be a tall task.

But, as with every year in the NFC East, it's crap shoot. And this year might be the wildest division finish ever.

Giants fan gets laid out with two punches by Eagles fan after game (VIDEO)

Eli Manning wasn't the the only one who got knocked out in Philadelphia Monday night. An Eagles fan also had his way with a man in No. 10.

A Giants fan wearing a bright red  Manning jersey got waylaid by an Eagles fan in the aftermath of Monday night’s 27-7 loss, according to footage posted to YouTube.

The video, shot in a Philadelphia transit station, shows an Eagles fan trailing a couple of Giants fans repeatedly saying, “C’mon now.”

VIDEO WARNING: Naughty language and Eagles fans

One of the Giants fans finally turns around, telling the persistent Eagles goon to "F--k off" before getting laid out with two punches. It appears the larger Eagles fan then spat on the stunned Manning fan as he walked by.
That's the City of Brotherly Love in case you didn't know.

Son of Jets tight ends coach trashes players on Twitter, Cromartie fires back

The New York Jets faced some trash talk on Twitter after their 24-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night and, amazingly, the nasty tweets didn't come from Philly fans.

The tweets appeared to have come from Jets tight ends coach Jimmie Johnson’s 24-year-old son also named Jimmie. But before Junior's offending tweets were deleted, they were captured by Yahoo! Sports for the world to see.

In one tweet @JimmieJ82 posted a picture of Geno Smith posing with a young fan and wrote, “Bum ass Geno Smith.”

He followed it up with a picture of Antonio Cromartie, with the caption: “Antonio Cromartie with 2 of his 15 kids.”

That all might have been awkward enough, considering his father is a first year coach for the team, but the situation got worse when Cromartie took notice of the tweets. And the fuming cornerback didn't hold back.

After Cromartie responded: "Y the f you worried about my family. If it wasn’t for your dad you (wouldn’t) be nothing in life @JimmieJ82. You better watch yourself son," Johnson's son continued his Twitter assault: "yo f--- you Cro you weak ass bi----. You gonna be playing til you 60 to pay all that child support."

Eventually, the account’s handle was changed to @JTre88, and he apologized to Cromartie.

“@CRO31 apologize for the tweet man, I really didn’t mean anything by it. Stupid tweet. I hope I get to apologize to you in person,” he tweeted.

“Those tweets were really stupid on my part. Will apologize to both of them if I get the chance,” he added in another tweet.

Kids today — even if they're grown men.

Matt Flynn gets cut by Jets, heads to nearest bar (PHOTO)

Losing a job is never easy and one carefree way to cope with the letdown of being let go is with a nice stiff drink.

And after the Jets released  Matt Flynn on Saturday morning, it looked like he made a beeline to the nearest drinking establishment he could find. Although this scrumptious Bloody Mary looks like it could be called a liquid lunch.
But don't worry about Flynn. This is a guy who's made $19 million in his career even though he's only started seven career games.

The real question is what watering hole Tim Tebow ended up at.

Donovan McNabb suspended indefinitely by Fox Sports after DUI arrest: Report

Donovan McNabb has been suspended from his NFL analyst job indefinitely after a second DUI arrest, and his bosses did it with a statement that was more succinct than the former quarterback's rambling explanation of his situation last week.

"It is important that Donovan use this time as best he can to resolve his personal situation," Fox Sports said in a statement to SI.com

McNabb was arrested June 28 for driving under the influence in Gilbert, Ariz., after the former Eagles and Redskins quarterback rear-ended a vehicle at a red light and appeared impaired, according to police.

The 38-year-old McNabb served a day in jail in April 2014 after pleading guilty in another DUI case resulting from a Dec. 15, 2013, arrest in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community east of Phoenix. He was ordered to pay a fine of nearly $1,500 and enter an outpatient treatment program in Scottsdale.

On his radio show last week, McNabb had a hard time explaining his voluntary leave of absence from his weekday show on NBC Sports Radio.

"There was a story that was released, and I want everybody to be cognizant of it, because I am very aware of it, handling the matter at this particular point," McNabb said, according to Pro Football Talk. "But at this point, I have no further information, and as we continue on with the situation, then we'll let it handle as it will handle itself."

McNabb worked games last year for FOX, and he appeared regularly on FOX Sports Live. It was believed he’d have a higher profile on FOX’s NFL coverage in 2015.

Marcus Mariota: 'I'd love to play for the Jets': Report

Marcus Mariota was on hand for the annual Maxwell Football Club awards ceremony in Atlantic City Friday, where he was given the Maxwell Award as college football's player of the year.

And with the NFL draft about six weeks down the road, the Oregon quarterback gave one team about two hours up the Jersey Turnpike some food for thought

"I'd love to play for the Jets," said Mariota, according to the Asbury Park Press.

"Meeting with the offensive coordinator [Chan Gailey] and the quarterbacks coach [Kevin Patullo] was awesome,'' he said. "It was an opportunity for me to introduce myself, and it seems like a great organization."

The Heisman Trophy winner has been linked to the Jets, the quarterback-confused team that holds the No. 6 pick in the draft.

But there's also been some speculation that another team one hour west on the Atlantic City Turnpike is giving the quarterback some serious consideration.

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly — once Mariota's college head coach — is reportedly willing to move up from the 20th spot to select the former Duck.

"I wouldn't doubt it," Mariota said of Kelly potentially pulling off a blockbuster trade to get him. "But coach Kelly and the Eagles are going to do what's best for that team, and we'll see what happens."

Mariota said he had an informal breakfast meeting with the Eagles' quarterbacks coach on Thursday. He also said "everybody" jokes with him about the Eagles moving up to get him.

"I'm not sure what coach Kelly wants to do, and I haven't talked to him about it," Mariota said. "He's been more of a mentor for me when I needed someone, or if I needed to talk to him about anything, he's been there for me."

Kinky Friedman calls Chris Christie's 'bromance' with Jerry Jones 'homosexual' on ESPN2 (VIDEO)

Texas humorist and country singer Kinky Friedman appeared live on ESPN's "Outside The Lines" Wednesday to comment on the budding friendship between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

But in an awkward moment that caught host Bob Ley off guard,  Friedman said the pair's "bromance" was much more than friendly and called it "the most important, latent homosexual relationship since Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson."

Friedman reluctantly smoothed over his words after Ley asked him if he really meant it.

Apparently Friedman, a former Texas gubernatorial candidate, wasn't finished. According to CNN, he later called Christie, who claims he's a longtime Cowboys fan, an "anti-Texas, thin-sock wearing son of a b----." That's when Ley cut him off and apologized for Friedman's remarks.

The governor and Jones hung out together in the Cowboys owners' box during Sunday's wild card victory over the Detroit Lions. It wasn't the first time they paired up to watch a game but, the sight of the traitor hugging Jones created a social media blitz by Giants and Eagles fans in New Jersey.

And it seems Friedman has his own take on it.

Chris Christie overheard calling Eagles fans the 'worst in America': Report

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's public display of support of the Dallas Cowboys apparently comes with private trashing of Eagles fans.

Michael Barbaro, a political reporter for the New York Times, published on Monday an interaction the governor had recently, during which Christie had some harsh comments things directed at Eagles fans.

"These Philadelphia fans, they are the worst in America," Mr. Christie was overheard saying when he attended a game between the Cowboys and Eagles last month.

He recalled a different kind of reception when he joined Mr. Jones on the field for a Cowboys game against the New York Giants, who play their home games in New Jersey. “I didn't get booed," he said. “Giant fans waved, said hello, asked for autographs, didn't give me a hard time."

"But these guys?" he added of Eagles fans.

The private (at least until now) comments won't help the portly Guv's popularity even in his home state — especially the Eagles fans who are widespread in South Jersey .

Christie, was criticized for celebrating the Cowboys' playoff win over the Detroit Lions in Dallas on Sunday (video at bottom), prompting his brother, Todd, to defend him in an angry Facebook post.

"To all of those non Cowboy fans who have their panties in a ringer because the Governor of NJ is a Cowboys fan — GET A LIFE !!! The Gov has been a Cowboys fan for his entire life and ALL of you would sit with the owner of your favorite team in a heartbeat if given the chance. I'm a Giants fan — we are sitting home for the fourth straight year. Eagles fans — possibly you should worry more about the fact that your sorry ass team has never won a Super Bowl and less about who's rooting for which team. I mean crazy pathetic posts. And for every calorically challenged FB person who posts about the Gov's weight — forget the magic mirror and look at yourself. Weight posts—really?”

Heavy stuff.

Chris Christie denied high-five from Jerry Jones after Cowboys win (VIDEO)

Just seeing Chris Christie in the owner's box with Jerry Jones during the Cowboys' victory over the Lions was enough to make Giants, Jets and Eagles fans gag but, seeing the portly New Jersey Guv hugging it out with the Dallas owner after the win also lost him some votes in Michigan as well.

Cameras caught the lifelong Cowboys fan left hanging by Jones — who ignored Christie's flailing hand — before finally settling for an awkward hug after Sunday's game.

I don't how many electoral votes New Jersey, Michigan and half of Pennsylvania has but Christie might want to rethink that presidential run.

There was no immediate word if Christie would be in Green Bay next Sunday for the Cowboys-Packers game. But if he’s there, he'll be wearing his good luck orange sweater.

Eagles fan posts Craigslist ad seeking secondary help and a new quarterback (PHOTO)

One Eagles fan got so fed up with the team's defense, he resorted to Craigslist with a hilarious ad looking for some help.

After the Eagles' secondary got undressed for 38 points and three touchdowns to Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant in last Sunday's loss, this ad appeared in the "gigs" section of the Philadelphia Craiglist:

We are a great football team with an elite Special Teams, Offensive unit and plan, and Defensive Front 7, but our Secondary just isn't able to help us close the deal. Can you play Safety or Cornerback? Are you willing to turn your head when the ball is coming toward your man and break up a pass? Can you keep your hands to yourself when you're not making a play on the ball? Do you know how to hold coverage, not blow your assignment, and let the Wide Receiver you're supposed to be covering have 20 yards of space around him while you're double-teaming a decoy? Bonus if you can complete an open field tackle or complete an interception.
Then we want you. Not much football experience or talent required, as all you'll have to do is be better than Bradley Fletcher or Cary Williams.

In case the fan doesn't get the defensive help he thinks the team needs, the ad also requested an upgrade over quarterback Mark Sanchez too.

If you know anyone who can throw a ball to someone 20 yards away without having it intercepted by a guy who is only 10 yards away, let him know that we might need him, too.

If you think you meet that criteria, respond here — or let us know in the comments section why you might qualify as an upgrade over Fletcher, Williams or Sanchez.

The guy might want to post this ad in Eugene or Tallahassee — just sayin'.

Philly politician calls Gov. Christie a 'Fat assed ... creep' for being Cowboys fan: Report

Gov. Chris Christie, that unabashed Dallas Cowboys fan from New Jersey, created quite a stir when he sat with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during the Philadelphia Eagles' 38-27 loss on Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

And it didn't take long for that kinship to ignite a social media frenzy.

Eagles fans called for Christie's impeachment and Cowboys fans in Texas were already casting their votes for the New Jersey pol if he makes a run for president were only some of the tamer comments.

But besides losing a few more votes in south Jersey's Eagles territory, the Guv lost all love from politicians across the Delaware River.

Earlier in the week, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell called Christie "pathetic" for being a Cowboys fan: “How can a Jersey guy be a Cowboys fan?" Rendell said in a radio interview. It’s pathetic.”

But a Twitter rant by Philadelphia councilman-at-large Jim Kenney, a Democrat, who — after watching Christie high-five with Jones during the nationally televised game took his attack to a more personal level:

Rendell said Christie's allegiance to a division rival, while "legal," shows an "inferiority complex" and a need to be a frontrunner.

“If you are a Jerseyite or a Pennsylvanian and you’re rooting for the Cowboys, it means you’re not secure in yourself and you wanted to root for a team that was a team in your youth that was a constant winner," he said.

“Tell him I think he’s nothing but a wuss," he added.

Get over it Eagles fans, Giants fans already have.

Former NFL player becomes America's Top Model's first male winner: Report

A former NFL player has made reality show history as the first man to win America's Next Top Model.

Keith Carlos, a former receiver for the Giants and Eagles and played one season in the NFL, beat out 30 other men and women to win the competition, which meant landing a contract with Next Model Management as well as a spread in Nylon magazine.

The 26-year-old proudly announced the good news on Instagram with a photo of himself and host Tyra Banks, with the caption: "This one is also for the MEN out there trying to succeed in a female-dominated industry.

"This is for the young in urban America with a single mother, no guidance, and a chip on their shoulder."

Wow! I'm honored and extremely overwhelmed with LOVE. I would like to congratulate my new family members the cast of ANTM C21! They are all talented and they all will be VERY successful! A little wordy maybe. But hey, chalk one up for the men.

On his Facebook page, Carlos claims that his modeling career began when he was chosen to star on the cover of Krave magazine in 2011.

"I've always been told I should model... but I was so attached to football that I never really immersed myself into it,' Keith told Zap2it.com

"So once my career came to an end, I was like, 'I'm gonna do something different.'"

Considering that no one would ever confuse Carlos with Odell Beckham Jr. — he never even caught a pass during an NFL regular season game — it's easy to say the former player made the right choice.

Seahawks' Ricardo Lockette takes epic dive against Eagles (VIDEO)

Seattle Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette used his best soccer flop in an attempt to trick the referees into thinking Eagles cornerback Cary Williams pushed him towards the end of the first quarter on Sunday.

The refs did not fall for his histrionics, but it's not like he didn't give it a good effort.

DeSean Jackson blasts Redskins teammates on Instagram: Report

The Washington Redskins were already familiar with DeSean Jackson's abilities on the field, but now they are finding out why the Eagles were less than thrilled with the wideout's excessive antics off of it — especially with his activity on Instagram and Twitter — and let him go.

On Monday, Jackson was at it again and appeared to take aim, while using some pretty graphic language, at his Redskins teammates with the message below posted to his Instagram account.

Jackson's post comes hours after a 27-7 Redskins' loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday afternoon, so it's not hard to see who he was blaming.

Of course this could just be a case of Jackson being frustrated, however the tone of his post sure seems to blame everyone else.

Mark Sanchez celebrates victory by getting first Philly cheesesteak (PHOTOS)

Mark Sanchez has waited a long time for this — and I'm not talking about his first victory as a starter since beating the Jaguars on Dec. 9, 2012.

We're talking about his first ever Philly cheesesteak.

The former Jets quarterback, making his first start for the Eagles in place of injured starter Nick Foles, was solid in a 45-21 rout of the Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field on the eve of his 28th birthday but had yet time to ever savor the pride of Philadelphia.

So after the game, he hit the legendary Geno's to celebrate:

Sanchez, the Jets first-round pick (fifth overall) in 2009 who was cut last March, completed 20-of-37 passes for 332 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers as the Eagles (7-2) pulled a game ahead of the Cowboys in the loss column in the NFC East.

In his Jets career, spanning 68 starts, the often maligned quarterback never once threw for more than 300 yards without committing a turnover.

A week ago, Sanchez relieved the injured Foles and led the Eagles to a 31-21 victory over the Texans in Houston.

The taste of both victory and Geno's. That's a pretty good night.

Victor Cruz speaks for first time since knee surgery via Instagram (VIDEO)

After all of the disheartening news during and after the New York Giants pitiful loss to the Eagles on Sunday night, the team and its fans got a little good news from none other than Victor Cruz.

For the first time since Cruz underwent surgery to repair the patellar tendon in his right knee, he spoke on an Instagram video posted on Thursday night.

Sporting an enormous brace visible on the repaired knee, Cruz said his surgery went well while thanking the doctors who worked on him, the Giants organization, his teammates and fans.

Cruz said he'll be out of action but would be "back in no time and stringer than ever" and still attend HalloweenLand, an event thrown by his foundation on Oct. 25 in New York City.

Use this time to be better and push yourself to do things you've never done before. I won't be on the field out there playing but I'll still be around for my team mates, as their captain.  I'm dedicated to our community and I'm still going to be at HalloweenLand on 10/25 @ Basketball City and I hope you all can come so I can see all of the people who are routing for me. It's your love and support that keeps me going! #BigBlue4ever

Victor Cruz's knee is a 'car in a car accident' and will likely never be the same: Report

As if Sunday's night's 27-0 beating by the Eagles wasn't bad enough, the Giants woke up Monday with the knowledge that their best playmaker, Victor Cruz, would be out for the rest of the season after a freak third quarter play the night before.

And if Cruz's screams of pain after the wideout's devastating knee injury weren't enough to shield your ears, a highly-respected former doctor now says Cruz's days of salsa dancing in the end zone may be far and between in the future.

“He can return to 100%, but it (his knee) is a car in a car accident,” said Dr. David Chao, a former NFL team physician. “Never brand new when fixed.”

Cruz, who ruptured his right patellar tendon on Sunday, was transferred from Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia on Monday to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, where he underwent surgery performed by Dr. Russell Warren. The Giants said the procedure was “successful.”

Cruz’s injury, rare among NFL skill position players, is the kind that could rob him of what makes him truly dangerous: his explosive change-of-direction ability.

When he left the field on Sunday, he was unable to straighten his knee, the result of the tendon rupture that sent his kneecap traveling upwards and out of place. And while a handful of NFL players have returned from this injury, none have returned to their truly elite form.

“Studies show full return,” Chao said in general. “Of course there’s no way to measure explosive (ability) objectively.”

According to the N.Y. Daily News:

A patellar tendon rupture cannot be repaired arthroscopically, so it requires a massive open procedure, and such surgeries instantly have a lengthy and painful rehab.

For six weeks after the surgery, the joint must be immobilized, likely in a cast, so it can heal, and in that time, the surrounding muscles, unused for more than a month, will gradually degrade.

Those must be rebuilt, mechanics must be retrained, and it will likely be six months (into mid-April) before Cruz can attempt to run again, let alone make the cuts and jukes that left cornerbacks grasping at air.

In 2011, the American Journal of Sports Medicine released a study of 22 NFL players with patellar tendon ruptures between 1994 and 2004, and it found that it’s possible for players to return. But the study defined a “success” as any player who only appeared in a game post-surgery, and it couldn’t quantify whether players retained their once explosive skills.

“(It’s) harder and more painful early recovery than ACL,” said Chao, referring to the most common serious knee injury in the NFL.
