LeBron James crushes golfer Jason Day's wife during sideline collision (VIDEO)

NBA superstar LeBron James collided with the wife of Australian golfer Jason Day in a scary sideline incident at a Cleveland Cavaliers home game on Thursday night.

Ellie Day, sitting courtside with her husband, was stretchered off and taken to hospital after James, chasing a loose ball, crashed into her seat, sending both of them sprawling backwards to the floor.

The game was halted for several minutes as medical personnel attended to Day, with James and his Cavaliers teammates looking on. She just gave birth to the couple's second child, a daughter, in November.

Day and his wife, who have a home in Columbus, Ohio, were sitting a few feet from the sideline when the incident occurred late in the fourth quarter of the Cavaliers' 104-100 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"It wasn't anything out of the usual besides the injury," James said of the incident. "But to me, obviously her health is very important and hopefully she's doing well."

"The guys told me she's doing great," James added, although there was no official word from the Cavaliers on Ellie Day's condition at the time.

"I was going for a loose ball. Just trying to keep a possession going and I hate that was the end result of it."

Day was reported to be alert and talking as her husband accompanied her to an ambulance, but was hospitalized overnight for observation before being released early Friday morning.

The 28-year-old Day won his first major title at the PGA Championship in August, twice ascended to number one in the world rankings this year and won Australian sport's prestigious Don Award in October.

Cavaliers coach David Blatt said he had long been concerned about the danger of players like James, six-foot-eight and 266 pounds, colliding with courtside spectators.

After the game, James tweeted his best wishes and apology to the couple.

Cavaliers draft Sir'Dominic Pointer of St. John's in second round

St. John's versatile forward Sir'Dominic Pointer made it into the second round of the NBA Draft Thursday night when the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him with the 53rd overall pick.

The defensive specialist and fierce competitor was selected with the Cavs' final pick. He's a 6-6 prospect who averaged 13.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 1.9 steals in 33 games during his senior season. 

The 23-year-old Pointer was the Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year and ranks third in the school's history in blocks (172) and fifth in steals (200).

He's still a long shot to make the team.

The athletic Pointer has very little range on his jump shot, so he's counting on his defense to carve out a spot in the league.

Pointer was only the second Big East player taken in the entire draft along with Villanova's Darrun Hilliard, who went No. 38 overall to Detroit.

It wasn't what you would call a good night for LeBron James and cameras on Thursday.

First, moments before Game 4 of the NBA Finals began, James inadvertently exposed himself to millions watching on live television when a cameraman zoomed in a little too much for a close-up while LeBron adjusted his shorts.



And during the game, the Cavaliers star required stitches after taking a wide angle lens to the head from another photographer when he was shoved under the net.

J.R. Smith calls Caitlyn Jenner 'that science project'

It seems J.R. Smith has yet to grasp this whole social media thing without creating a little controversy. Even when the Cleveland Cavaliers guard uses his thumbs to publicize good works, he still finds a way to stick his foot in his mouth.

Smith, who will play in game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday,  deleted a meme referring to Caitlyn Jenner as "that science project" on his Instagram shortly after posting it Wednesday.

"Shout out to Akon !" the image reads. "He is about to supply 600 million africans with solar power. Im really upset that this isnt major news but that science project bruce jenner is #Society"

Smith reposted the image with his own caption: "Hmmm... what's more important?"

The meme — which is a part of a trend where people compare Jenner to another news story as a way of ridiculing her gender change — compared Jenner with singer Akon's solar power initiative in Africa.

Tweets coming back to haunt Smith are nothing new to the oft-troubled player — especially during the playoffs.  In 2012, Smith was fined $25,000 for posting a picture of a woman in his bed wearing a thong.

Mark Jackson gets standing ovation in return to Oakland (VIDEO)

Mark Jackson returned to Oracle Arena for the first time since the Warriors beat the Clippers to force Game 7 in their first round series last spring. And the former Warriors coach — who was fired soon after on May 6 — had no idea how the crowd would react to seeing him back on the sidelines — albeit, this time as a broadcaster.

To Jackson's surprise, the moment his face appeared on the video board, both he home crowd and players erupted into cheers and gave him a standing ovation.

The Warriors' players, led by Stephen Curry gave a heartfelt welcome back. Even CEO Joe Lacob got out of his seat to applaud.

The anticipation for the game against the Cavaliers had been building all day for Jackson —  now a highly regarded color commentator for ESPN who still is being paid by the Warriors — and he was hoping LeBron James would steal the spotlight.

When James backed out of the game with an injury, the night belonged solely to Jackson.

J.R. Smith posts farewell message to Knicks (PHOTO)

J.R. Smith was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night, after four mostly tumultuous seasons with the franchise he calls his hometown team — the New York Knicks.

Smith, who was a standout high school player in New Jersey, loved playing for the team he fondly remembers growing up in Central Jersey — making this trade just a bit harder for him.

On Tuesday, Smith said farewell to the Knicks and his New York fans with an Instagram post:

LeBron James wants an ‘I can’t breathe’ t-shirt for Cavs-Nets game: Report

While many eyes will be looking up at a heavily guarded private suite occupied by members of the royal family at Barclays Center Monday night, one member of NBA royalty will try and get people to notice him as a man of the people down below during pre-game warmups.

LeBron James said he is looking for a way for a way to protest the Eric Garner decision, and wants to get a "#I can't breathe" t-shirt to wear before the Cavaliers take on the Nets.

Britain's Prince William and his pregnant wife, Duchess Kate Middleton, will be in attendance for the game featuring King James himself on this already over-hyped night.

James has already spoken out about the death of Garner and a grand jury‘s controversial decision not to indict the responsible officers.

On Sunday, James was asked about the t-shirt worn recently by Bulls point guard Derrick Rose.

The message on Rose’s shirt, “I can’t breathe,” is a reference to Garner’s words as he was choked while being arrested for selling untaxed cigarettes. Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush also wore a shirt with the phrase written on it on Sunday.

“It was spectacular,” James said about Rose’s shirt, which he wore in pre-game warmups Saturday night. “I loved it. I’m looking for one.”

It shouldn't be hard to find. They’re reportedly going for $9.99 on eBay.

Will he wear it Monday at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, where the Royals will be in attendance and where protesters gathered outside just days earlier?

Even without Jay Z and Beyonce who will also be there, expect a wild scene.

Kyrie Irving's huge game helps put Knicks in record books (VIDEO)

The New York Knicks got into the record books Thursday night. Too bad it was not the kind of notoriety they hoped for. And, after falling to the Cavaliers for their sixth straight loss, the team is officially off to the worst start in Knickerbockers history.

Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 37 points, including a layup with 10 seconds left to lead the Cavs over the Knicks 90-87, dropping the reeling New Yorkers to 4-16.

Setting a new low for the franchise.

Carmelo Anthony had one of the worst nights of his Knicks career — going 4-for-19 — and couldn’t close the deal at the end as his miserable evening ended with a missed 3-pointer that rimmed out over LeBron James in the final seconds.

Irving carried the Cavs most of the night before James had five straight points late in the game that helped Cleveland pull it out.

LeBron James, other athletes respond to Ferguson verdict via Twitter

Within minutes of Monday’s Ferguson verdict, NBA star LeBron James used social media to express his remorse for the family of dead teenager Michael Brown and the chaos that followed.

The grand jury’s decision not to prosecute police officer Darren Wilson was announced on Monday evening during the Cleveland Cavaliers' 106-74 win over the Orlando Magic.

After the game, James took to Twitter to voice his frustration at the situation in Ferguson by tweeting a drawing of Brown and Trayvon Martin walking arm-in-arm.

NBA donated $1 million for William and Kate to attend Cavs-Nets game: Report

In a bid to make the bring basketball to an even bigger worldwide audience, the NBA is donating $1 million dollars to Prince William and  Kate Middleton's charity for attending a Cavaliers-Nets game featuring LeBron James at Brooklyn's Barclays Center next month.

The NBA honchos' generous donation to the Duke and Duchess' new conservation charity is reportedly a big "thank you" for attending the already high-profile game during the Royal Couple's three-day trip in New York City, according to MailOnline.

The decision by the couple to attend that particular game means the Royals will get to meet King James — still the NBA's reigning star.

NBA insiders believe that the image of the royal couple at the game inside Barclays Center will be shown around the world, helping the sport gain new fans.

"It's an incredible publicity coup for the NBA,'"an insider told MailOnline.

"The images of them all together will be seen all over the world — it's a marketing man's dream. A million bucks is a small price to pay for the publicity the NBA's going to get."

Friends say that Kate and William had expressed an interest in attending a basketball game at legendary Madison Square Garden when they were planning their December 7-9 visit to the city.

But the couple snubbed the New York Knicks vs. Portland Trailblazers game on December 7 in favor of seeing LeBron play the following night.

"Kate and William are both big sports fans'," explained the friend. 

"And although basketball isn't big in Britain, William has heard of LeBron James... although Kate apparently had no idea who he was!"

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will also be present at the game and is said to be beside himself with excitement at the public relations coup.

And while most attention-seeking celebrities usually sit courtside, the Duke and pregnant Duchess are expected to be viewing the game from the relative safety of a private box.

They will probably meet music royalty when Beyonce and former Nets minority owner, Jay Z, are expected take in the action on the same night.

That might be the photo-op of the year.

Ohio lawmaker wants to celebrate LeBron James homecoming with specialty license plate: Report

An Ohio lawmaker wants to create a specialty license plate celebrating the return of LeBron James to his home state.

State Rep. Rep. Bill Patmon says he plans to introduce legislation within the next two weeks for the “LeBron James Witness 2.0” tag.

James, an Akron native, announced on July 11 that he was returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, four years after breaking the city’s collective heart by signing with the Miami Heat.

In a letter to legislative colleagues, Patmon said the plate would “honor the return home of our prodigal champion.” The Cleveland Democrat said the plate would commemorate the NBA star’s contributions to the economy of Ohio and to its children and families through his charity, the LeBron James Family Foundation.

Ohio already has more than 70 specialty plates.

You can bet the inmates on the Ohio State Penitentiary assembly line can't wait.

Ex-fan vandalizes LeBron on cherished Miami Heat mural (PHOTOS)

Miami Heat fans are mourning the loss of the player who helped bring them two NBA Championships after LeBron James announced he is heading back home to Ohio.

And some are just more than sad.

Just hours after the announcement that 'King James' would be heading back to Cleveland, a mural featuring James along with now-former teammates Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade was vandalized when LeBron's face was spray-painted black, presumably by a furious Heat fan.

The elaborate mural took more than two months for artist Serge Toussaint to create.

Toussaint said he had always hoped to meet James. Now, he is wondering who might replace his image when he gets around to re-painting the mural.

"I still love the man," he said. "But now we got no love for you, man."

Cavs fan gets tossed out after tweeting he'll rush the court: Report

One tweeting Cleveland Cavaliers fan got ejected from Quicken Loans Arena for just plotting to storm the court Tuesday night.

A front row Cavs fan named Scotty (aka @_GodsSoldier_10) got himself thrown out of the Cavs’ 100-96 loss to the Miami Heat for posting that he would rush the court if he got 1,000 retweets.

Scotty never actually rushed the court, but among the thousands of people who saw the tweet was at least one quick-minded security guard.

Andrew Bynum makes surprise debut for the Cavaliers (VIDEO)

Andrew Bynum made a surprise debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night and received a warm welcome from the home crowd at Quicken Loans Arena.

The center's long-awaited appearance marked his first regular season NBA game in 537 days.

Bynum played 7:34 in the first half against the Brooklyn Nets, going 1-for-5 from the field to finish with three points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots — including an emphatic rejection of Deron Williams.

Jeff Green breaks Cavs' hearts at buzzer, then hugs his heart surgeon

Call it heartbreaking, heartwarming or heart stopping but, any way you look at Jeff Green's last second buzzer-beater in Quicken Loans Arena, don't call it disheartening.

Green's last second layup to give the Boston Celtics a 93-92 victory on the home floor of the Cleveland Cavaliers was all that more special to the Celtics player because the man responsible for Green even still playing in the NBA was sitting courtside — Dr. Lars Svensson, the surgeon who performed open-heart surgery on him at the Cleveland Clinic nearly a year ago.

While the jubilant Celtic players jumped around the court and Cleveland fans grumbled on their way out, Green headed to the locker room scanning the crowd for the man who gave him a chance to earn a living playing the game he loves and give him a hug. He finally found him.



Svensson has seen his patient play here before, but tonight seemed a little more special because the last second play would have never happened without the heart surgeon's skilled hands.  As Green embraced Svensson, the doctor told him he was proud.

"Just a year ago and a couple of months, I was under that bright light with him working on me," reflected Green. "It's a blessing to be here.

" That was for him," he added.

The win ended a Celtic five-game losing streak. Green finished the game with 21 points and 7 rebounds and was mobbed by his teammates.  The best hug of the night had to be by far the one from Dr. Svensson.

Cavaliers to honor 'A Christmas Story' with Leg Lamp Bobble Night

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced that they will offer one of the most bizarre — if not coolest — promotional giveaways at their Dec. 5 game against the Chicago Bulls — a bobblehead replica of the leg lamp from the holiday movie classic "A Christmas Story."

The 1983 retelling of Jean Shepherd's short stories featured the famous left leg covered in a fishnet stocking that Ralphie's dad (played by the late, great Darren McGavin) was so proud of in the classic tale.

If you don't what lamp I'm talking about, just check out the background props on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption" or wait until December when the movie will be shown on TV about a jillion times.

Even though fans might remember that the movie was set in Indiana, portions of it were filmed on Cleveland's west side.  So there's Cleveland's tie-in to the bobbleleg.




The memorable scene where Ralphie's excited dad gets the wood crate marked "FRAGILE" for winning a "sweepstakes" — and the  mom looks on red-faced as her husband puts the risque piece of kitsch in the window — is one for the ages.  Now Cav's fans can own a little (miniature actually) piece of Americana just in time for the holidays.

The Cavaliers don't seem to do a lot of things right these days, but the scaled down version of the leg lamp is something that could help get the fans through another long winter.

Judgment Day 2011; Athletes Who Will Be Left Behind

The End is Near.  No, it's not a proclamation by either the NFL regarding the lockout or the GM of the Phoenix Coyotes on the hockey team's future.   It's the Day of Reckoning for Mankind, so say the lunatic members of a doomsday group who predict the world will cease to exist after the earth is rattled by series of earthquakes and tidal waves tomorrow between 5 and 6 p.m. 

New York City has been plastered with ads warning if the upcoming Apocalypse on Saturday July 21 and how God will only spare those who are pure of heart.

So people, you don't have to fret over overdue library books or the vig to your loan shark.  Go ahead, make that nasty, drunken text to your ex because, after tomorrow, it won't matter.   It'll all be over soon.

This presumed "Rapture" will spare the souls of the pure by whisking them into heaven while the rest of mankind will be left to face their doom on the crumbling earth.  Professional athletes--however adored on earth--are not an exception and some won't be making that trip up to eternal happiness.

I believe the world must be coming to an end because how can you explain Jason Giambi jacking three home-runs the other night.  Who even knew he was still around?

And what about the Cleveland Indians?  Best team in the majors?  Come on. We're talking about Cleveland here.  That's enough evidence for me.

Tomorrow's Doomsday is just more bad luck for Cleveland all around.  The Cavaliers finally get two top-four draft picks to make up for the left-at-the alter move by LeBron James and BOOM!   No more Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or Dawg Pound.  It's over.  If it makes Cavs fans feel any better, James will be one of the fateful ones slated to be left behind--with no championships.

The Apocalypse will bring some good things.  We won't have to wring our hands about the NFL owners and the NFLPA hugging it out.  They're all on God's naughty list anyway.
