Dallas area earthquakes suggest God is a Lions fan

The Detroit Lions lost to the Dallas Cowboys, 24-20, after a game-changing penalty call was overturned without explanation in the fourth quarter on Sunday.

On 3rd and 1 with 8:25 left and a 20-17 lead, Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens obviously had his hands all over tight end Brandon Pettigrew before the interference call was reversed. 

Apparently The Big Guy upstairs was watching and, contrary to everything Jerry Jones believes, He just might a Lions fan.

On Tuesday, after the NFL admitted blowing the call, nine small earthquakes rattled North Texas hours apart — suspiciously close to AT&T Stadium — the scene of the fateful call.

Coincidence? Hmm.

Since 2008, there had only been one reported earthquake in what is known as the Fort Worth Basin. 

The U.S. Geological Service pinpointed the epicenters of the first four quakes to northeast Irving, a Dallas suburb. At least two of those could be felt throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Thankfully, there were no injuries or serious damage.

Seismologists installed a new earthquake-monitoring device in Irving this week, after minor shock waves rocked an area which is near the site of the Cowboys' former football stadium.

I guess even He makes mistakes too.

Matthew Stafford's wife goes off on NFL for protecting Aaron Rodgers: Report

Ndamukong Suh had a one-game suspension for stepping on Aaron Rodgers leg rescinded, making him eligible for Sunday's NFC wildcard game against the Dallas Cowboys. But that didn't stop the wife of Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford from stomping on the NFL.

Kelly Hall took to Instagram on Tuesday, after the NFL reduced Suh's penalty to a $70,000 fine, and referred to an article from The Detroit News that pointed out her husband too had been stepped on during the game too — and there was no punishment.

"Thank you. Pretty sure Matthew's leg looks a lot damn worse right now from when he got stepped on/cleated in the same game. But it wasn't Suh.. And he's not Aaron Rodgers, so no one would think twice about it," she wrote.

Suh, who has a long record of player-safety violations, was suspended by the league for one game Monday for breaking rules of "unnecessary roughness." On Tuesday he was reinstated.

The video (below) shows Rodgers in a defenseless position.  Suh backs up and steps on the quarterback's leg with his right foot before repeating the move with his left foot in a display of "unnecessary roughness" the NFL said in a statement on Monday.

Cheating pregnant girlfriend busted by nosy Lions fan (PHOTO)

A Lions fan who handed a total stranger a note — saying he noticed the man's very pregnant girlfriend sexting another guy during the Thanksgiving day game against the Bears at Ford Field — is defending his curious action by saying he was only trying to expose the woman for cheating on her boyfriend.

The nosy spectator named Lye, said he felt sympathetic for the supposedly cuckold man he was sitting behind so he decided to hand the unknown man a note at the end of the game, revealing the allegedly adulterous text messages to a person named "Jason."

It read:

"Hey bro, I don't know you & you don't know me. When you get home check your girls Phone. She's been TEXting "Jason" saying she wishes she was with him all day!

Take care wish you the best Happy Thanksgiving #Chive On!"

Lye claims every time the boyfriend turned to her, she either hid or shut off her phone in order to shield her naughty texts.

"I decided to get up and go to one of the stands that sell merchandise and ask for a pen and paper," explained Lye about scribbling the note. "And went back to my seat and waited for the game to be over to hand it to him." 

The picture of the woman and the note went viral online (above),after he shared them on his Facebook in a post about the experience. But some have called Lye out for getting himself involved with a random couple's personal relationship and for possibly putting the woman at risk of physical harm.

Lye doesn't care whether you consider him a good Samaritan or an annoying Buttinski for his meddling.

"I don’t regret a damn thing, well except the fact that I didn’t leave anything for him to be able to contact me on," he said. "Just like you guys, I’ll never know what happened after they left."

Sounds like this Lye has been through this sort of stuff himself.

New York Giants rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.'s incredible one-handed catch Sunday night is being called the greatest catch of all time but, at least one NFL player is claiming he made a better grab just two weeks before.

That's right. Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes thinks his similar leaping interception robbing the Lions' Calvin Johnson of a touchdown during Week 10 deserves as much consideration as Beckham's widely publicized play — and maybe more.

"It was a cool catch. I may be biased, I think mine was better," Grimes joked, via ESPN’s James Walker. "I jumped and everything. I was on defense. They weren't throwing me the ball. That was a great catch, though."

Let's make it simple and separate Big Apples from Orange Bowls by calling it like it is: Best Catch and Best Interception — respectively.

Reggie Bush compares shooting of Mike Brown to Palestine: Report

Reggie Bush has been pretty outspoken about the verdict in Ferguson on Twitter the past couple of days. But on Tuesday, the Lions running back curiously compared the shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown to the conflict in Palestine on his Instagram page.

Bush posted a photo of a man holding a sign with the message: "The Palestinian People know what mean to be shot while unarmed because of your ethnicity. #Ferguson #Justice."

The post suggests that unarmed Palestinians were being shot by Israel.

Bush also included the caption: "No matter who you are, what color skin you have, where you live, we are all in this together! This isn't a Ferguson problem it's a Global Problem! We need change NOW! What happened to humanity? #JusticeForMikeBrown."

While the 29-year-old Bush has every right to voice his opinions regarding the verdict handed down in Ferguson, comparing it to the Middle East bloodshed might be a reach.

Bush, who famously dated reality star Kim Kardashian for two years, made the comment late on Monday. It was liked by more than 14,000 of his followers on Instagram.

Detroit radio station organizing Jets rally to spite ex-Lions coach: Report

The NFL announced Friday tickets for the transplanted Jets-Bills game on Monday night in Detroit will be free to the general public and all seating will be general admission.

Since the two teams really have much of a fan base in Motown,  one Detroit radio station — WMGC-FM — which still holds a grudge against former Lions coach and now Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, urged the locals to support the Jets.

Schwartz, who had coached Detroit the previous five seasons, was sarcastically carried off the field when the Bills beat the Lions back in Week 5 this season.

So expect to see a lot of green and white at the Jets' "home" game.

Geno Smith fined $12,000 for F-bomb directed at fan: Report

The NFL fined Geno Smith $12,000 Friday for unsportsmanlike conduct — a penalty pretty much anticipated after the Jets quarterback cursed at a fan while walking off the field following a home loss to Detroit on Sunday.

A frustrated Smith was caught by a television camera yelling “f--- you” at a MetLife Stadium spectator after the Jets brutal loss to the Lions. 

The fan was screaming at the struggling quarterback who, during the Jets third straight loss, threw an interception and lost a fumble — giving him seven giveaways for the season.

The hefty penalty was the same amount Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel was fined during the preseason for flipping the bird at the Washington bench.

“That’s unacceptable,” Jets owner Woody Johnson said Thursday of Smith’s behavior. “Absolutely unacceptable.”

Many fans in attendance for last Sunday’s loss in the Meadowlands were all over Smith for his poor performance, chanting Michael Vick’s name and calling for the veteran backup to replace Smith, who let his emotions get the best of him. 

Smith began his postgame press conference that day with an apology:

“No matter what happened I’ve got to not feed into it,” Smith said. “It’s a part of the job. I understand the fans want to come out and see victories. And at times they get heated and we do too as players.”

Sounds like the heat is turned up just a little higher for Smith.

Seattle doughnut shop tweets farewell to Golden Tate (PHOTO)

Former Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate recently signed a five-year contract with the Detroit Lions, ending a successful stint in Seattle. 

Seahawk fans will definitely miss the talented wideout, but one particular doughnut shop will miss him the most and tweeted him a sweet farewell.

To refresh your memory, when Tate was a rookie, he was caught by police at 3 a.m. for trespassing at Top Pot Doughnuts while searching for some freshly baked maple bars. Tate lived in the building above the shop and claimed he was so enticed by the smell of the pastries, he made the after-hours entry. 

According to Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times, Tate explained his reasoning for his early morning break-in: "They're irresistible. ... If you ever want some maple bars, that's the place to go."

Mystery of sad Detroit Lions fan on downtown billboard solved: PHOTO

It must be difficult being a Detroit Lions fan for the past half century or so and kind of mean when someone uses your face on a giant billboard to publicly ridicule that diehard loyalty — but it's downright funny when that someone with the warped sense of humor is your own dad.

As it turns out, the giant billboard featuring the downtrodden Lions fan that popped up in downtown Detroit last month was the work of the poor guy's own father.

Steve Vlahakis purchased the enormous billboard so he could put a larger-than-life picture of his son, 23-year-old Niko Vlahakis, on view — just a couple blocks from Niko's work.

Niko first found out about it from a friend in Arizona who saw a photo of the billboard — featuring the downcast face of himself decked out in Lions gear — on Twitter.

"When I first saw it, I was shocked. After a long day at work and getting a beer, I turned the corner and was speechless," he told The Huffington Post. "I definitely needed another beer after that. ...Every day when I come to work I have to see myself."

He initially had no idea who put up the billboard. When he eventually called his dad, the elder Vlahakis burst out laughing.

The father said he and some friends leased the billboard space from CBS Outdoors and it was not sponsored by the NFL team.

Niko's image — which became a popular meme — was captured by ESPN during the Dec. 16 game against the Ravens before Justin Tucker kicked a 61-yard field goal to defeat the Lions 18-16 in the final minute. 

"I had a great time until (Matt) Stafford threw an interception in the third," said the younger Vlahakis, who attended the game as a last-minute surprise from his father. "Once he threw that interception, I'm just sitting there a sad Lions fan, shaking my head. No words could explain it. You can see it on my face."

That face will be upon the billboard through the end of February.

Coughlin questions Eli about facing Lions behind second-string 'O' line: Report

To call it throwing Eli Manning to the Lions might be an understatement. Ford Field might not be the Coliseum, but all signs point to a thumbs-down day for the Giants quarterback this Sunday.

The Giants' offensive line is so banged up and depleted, relying on the last remnants of the depth chart, that Tom Coughlin had to ask Manning if he was comfortable enough to play a meaningless game (for the Giants at least) behind it against one of the league's most ferocious defensive fronts.

"As a matter of fact, we've talked about this,'' Coughlin said. "He wants to play and he's looking forward to playing and competing and having a better game. I wouldn't expect anything different.''

Manning downplayed his conversation with Coughlin as less than a passing chat.

"It never came up as a question whether I wanted to play or not, and I never thought about it any other way but going out there and playing,'' Manning said. "I want to compete. I want to make improvements and try to run this offense more efficiently and go out there and try to do the best I can and try to get a win.''

The Lions, on the other hand, will be playing for their playoff lives and Manning might end up being fresh meat for Detroit's Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley with the Giants'  patchwork protection. 

Manning, who has played 149 consecutive games,  already has been sacked a career-high 36 times this season. Last week against the physical Seahawks he had to cower and curl up to avoid injury by the third snap of the game.

Protection has been an issue all season, as have injuries to the line. Both current starting guards — David Diehl and James Brewer — missed practice Wednesday, and those guys were already backups to previously injured starters. That left Dallas Reynolds and Brandon Mosley taking reps on either side of Kevin Boothe, who had to slide to center several weeks ago when the Giants lost backup Jim Cordle for the season after putting projected starter David Baas on IR.

"You want to be out there protecting your guys and fighting with your teammates,'' said Diehl, who suffered a knee injury in Sunday's game. "Yeah, it definitely plays in your mind.''

One can only hope Manning isn't in for a reality check.

"I think our guys, they'll be ready,'' Manning said. "They'll compete. Hopefully, we get some guys back, but whoever is in there we'll handle, we'll have a good plan and have all the faith in the world they'll do a good job.''

That may require more than faith, though.

"We're not going to put a new guy playing one-on-one on Suh all day and take seven-step drops and pump and go this way and that way,'' Manning said. "You've got to be smart about it in a sense, but you've still got to run our offense, and we'll make the best of it.''

LeSean McCoy's jersey makes it to Hall of Fame (VIDEO)

LeSean McCoy is officially in the Hall of Fame — or at least his jersey is.

Here's a video of McCoy's jersey, shoes and gloves officially arriving in the Hall of Fame after he broke Steve Van Buren's single game rushing record this past Sunday against the Lions on the snow-covered field at Lincoln Financial.

McCoy finished with 217 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came in the second half of the game. McCoy has had a lot of great moments with the Eagles, but this past Sunday might have been his signature moment, and one that will always be remembered by the Philly fans.

And now, will also be forever immortalized in the Hall of Fame.

Eagles fans allegedly beat up Lions fan after the game: Report

A Michigan native who has resided in Philadelphia for two years says he was harassed and beaten unconscious by a group of Eagles fans outside Lincoln Financial Field after the Eagles' 34-20 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

The 33-year-old Center City business owner, who spoke on condition that he not be identified, said a half-dozen men in Eagles gear targeted him — first with snowballs and other projectiles, then with fists and kicks  — because of his Barry Sanders jersey and cap, according to a report from Philly.com.

After trying to ignore the initial taunts, the fans reportedly crossed over Pattison Avenue and approached him as he headed towards a train — which is when things allegedly got physical.

Here is what the report said of the incident:

The smallest man in the group slapped (the Lions fan) in his head from the side, he said. Another man then pushed him from behind, and the group bum-rushed him.

To defend himself, the victim said, he threw a punch and brought one of his attackers to the ground. But then he felt punches to the back of his head, he said.

"I felt like I was being choked and punched," he said.

That's when he lost consciousness, he said.

The injuries were so bad, the victim had to go to the hospital.

The victim, who lives in Bella Vista with his fiancee, said he was treated at a hospital Monday for a concussion and other, minor injuries. He said doctors also examined him for internal injuries after he urinated blood Sunday night.

The victim went on to say that it was an Eagles' fan who came to his aid. In fact, the victim says the man who helped him threw his own Eagles jersey in the trash because he was "disgusted" with what the group of fans did.

"He said he was tired of these Eagles fans and the way they are," said the Lions fan.

Last week, a report came out that the number of arrests go up in Philadelphia after an Eagles' loss.

If Sunday's story is true, it looks like Philly isn't very safe after a win either.

This frisky kitty seems to have aspirations of playing for the big cats one day. Megacat tries to catch a pass from the Lions' Matthew Stafford on a TV screen during an NFL game but can only watch as the ball passes through his little paws.

No word on if he passed the random catnip test after the game.

The Detroit Lions' thrilling 80-yard game-winning drive to beat the Cowboys on Sunday was probably the most exciting 62 seconds of NFL action in Week 8. Quarterback Matthew Stafford's 1-yard dunk over the Dallas defensive line in which he fooled everyone — even his teammates — is a play for the ages.

The Lions have now added to the excitement by unveiling the video below — a video of Stafford mic'd up as Detroit prepares to drive for the winning touchdown. And it offers proof that Stafford called for his team to clock the ball at the goal line

Lions investigate allegations Dominic Raiola verbally abused Wisconsin marching band

An NFL player has caused outrage after allegedly shouting vile names and homophobic slurs at a college marching band.

Detroit Lions starting center Dominic Raiola allegedly taunted the University of Wisconsin-Madison band during Sunday night's game with the Green Bay Packers, calling one female player, a "c***."

The band was performing at the game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Sunday when the 300-pound Raiola reportedly shouted insults about the musicians' weights and sexuality.

Michael Leckrone, the director of bands at Wisconsin,said the unprovoked incident occurred just before the start of the national anthem in the end zone as the band was planning on finishing up its pregame performance. The Wisconsin band travels once a year to perform at a Packers game.

One band member Zach York posted publicly on his Facebook page: "Dominic Raiola is literally the worst person I have ever had the fortune to encounter. 

"After marching down the field awaiting the national anthem, He went off on a verbal tirade, among other things, questioning my sexuality (as a band member) and then continued on to bring my sister and my recently deceased mother into the conversation. 

"After I refused to give him the satisfaction of turning to look at him, he switched targets to a trombone ranting at him calling him overweight and saying he can't play a real sport.

"After our halftime show, the same fine gentleman called a female member of the band the "c" word."

The former Nebraska All-American reportedly has a history of fan incidents. The Detroit Lions apologized for the player and said that they would respond further once they had investigated further. 

A spokesman for the University of Wisconsin-Madison told fox11: "Special opportunities such as playing before a Packers game are highlights for our band members: something they look forward to, and that we hope they will remember with pride.

The Lions went on to a 22-9 defeat at the hands of their division rival. 

Rex Ryan on Mark Sanchez pick-six: 'I never saw it'

The view from the hot seats just got a little toastier for Rex Ryan after the New York Jets head coach claimed he never saw Mark Sanchez's pick-six toss until it was captured on tape.

The Jets quarterback competition between Sanchez and Geno Smith got off to a wobbly start on Friday night when Sanchez tossed a pick-six to Detroit Lions first-round defensive end Ziggy Ansahon the team's fourth offensive play of the preseason.

Ryan —along with GM John Idzik — will be involved in selecting the team's starting quarterback this season. After the game, he was asked about Sanchez's interception and the coach — who is depending on their pick to save his own job — admitted he didn't see it happen live.

"I think, obviously, the interception, I never saw it, I just caught the tail end of it, when the kid was running in for a touchdown," he said.

"I had my own issues on the other side, so I never really focused a whole lot while he was in there," Ryan said. "We'll see it on tape. You probably saw more plays than I did."

Considering how anything involving the Jets immediately affects his future, Ryan's admission last night has raised some eyebrows on Saturday morning.

Ryan did catch the rest of Sanchez's night, which saw the 2009 first-round pick rebound and complete 10-of-13 pass attempts for 125 yards and a 26-yard touchdown to tight end Jeff Cumberland before turning it over to Smith.

"Obviously, we can’t have that," Ryan said of the interception. "But yeah, he made some nice throws, he made some throws under pressure, which was good to see. We could have done without the pressure, but the fact that he stood in there, made some nice throws, and then led our team down the field, scored a touchdown. I think that was encouraging about Sanchez."

And you thought those $50 nosebleeds at MetLife Stadium were bad.

Cromartie: Fans booing Sanchez is 'bullcrap'

It's sort of ironic that Antonio Cromartie — the player who picked off Mark Sanchez's boo-inciting pass Saturday— is the same guy who came to the quarterback's defense when the venomous chorus from the stands wouldn't let up on the maligned QB.

Though he made the pick, Cromartie was not too happy with the crowd’s reaction.

“I think that’s bullcrap,” Cromartie said. “My thing is, if you’re going to be a fan, be a fan. You don’t come out here and boo anybody.”

Sanchez seemed to take it in stride, perhaps having gotten used to being the target of such disdain over the past couple of seasons.

“Oh, shoot, I don’t care,” he said. “That’s the way it goes.”

The boos started before Sanchez tossed the pick. Earlier in the game, the fifth-year incumbent, trying to fight off a challenge from rookie Geno Smith for the starting job, tripped over his own feet and fell smack on his butt for the easiest sack of Dawan Landry’s career. You might want to label it the Buttsack — little brother of the infamous Buttfumble of last season.

For Sanchez’s sake, at least it was his own rear end that took the brunt of the impact (rather than Brandon Moore’s) and he was able to hang on to the football.

Though Smith reportedly looked like the better quarterback throughout the majority of the scrimmage Saturday, Sanchez finished with a big play —a 57-yard touchdown to Stephen Hill — which wiped out any remnants of the aforementioned Buttsack.

Sanchez completed six of 11 attempts for 93 yards, with a touchdown, interception and two sacks.

Smith, who took the majority of the reps with the first team because it was his turn in the rotation, was 9-for-16 for 77 yards and a sack.

Look for Friday night’s preseason opener against the Lions as an opportunity for either Sanchez or Smith to solidify their chances for the starting job.

“Again, guys, it’s just one opportunity to come out and compete,” said head coach Rex Ryan. “Certainly, this is really the beginning stages of the competition, and I think it will be interesting when we go to Detroit and start playing some live preseason games.”

Good thing Cromartie is there as the Jets' peacekeeper.

Ndamukong Suh saves comedian after 'Splash' reality show mishap

Comedian Louie Anderson narrowly escaped drowning this week at a taping of the celebrity reality show "Splash" — after he sank to the bottom of the pool from exhaustion — but was pulled to safety by Ndamukong Suh who came to his rescue.

Sources close to the production told TMZ.com that Louie — who's a contestant on the  high-diving show — was practicing his dives on Wednesday when he became a little too bushed to pull himself up the ladder ... falling back into the water again and again.

The website said Suh dove into action and Louie was eventually rescued by the Detroit Lions defensive end and the show's divemaster, former Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis.

The diving duo physically lifted the portly Louie out of the pool where he spat up water for several seconds.

Last week, sources said that some of Suh's Lions teammates were concerned about the safety of the 6' 4", 307-pound NFL star jumping off a diving platform.

One player reportedly said that Suh's participation on the show was irresponsible.

"He's a big dude ... and 'black' and 'pool' don't mix.  He's built for football not belly flops."

Despite the scary incident, TMZ reported that Louie is fine.  His rep said his client is already "feeling great, loving the challenge."

As for Suh, it sounds like he might be auditioning for that revival of "Baywatch" pretty soon.

Ndamukong Suh's teammates call 'Celebrity Diving' show a huge mistake

If you ask Detroit Lions players what they think is funny — 300-pound comedian Louie Anderson in a Speedo, belly-flopping into a pool might pop into their minds.  The thought of their own 6'4", 307-pound defensive end, Ndamukong Suh, leaping off a high dive ... not so much.

Suh should NEVER have signed up to compete on "Celebrity Diving" ... this according to several of Suh's Lions teammates who told TMZ the decision is shockingly irresponsible.

Suh — who's in the middle of a 5-year, $68 million contract with the Lions — recently joined the cast of the ABC reality show.  Suh, who will be joining other celebrities like Anderson, Katherine Webb (Uh, she's everywhere) and former NBA great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in launching their bodies off a diving platform.

TMZ spoke with several of Suh's teammates who all feel that he's making huge mistake.

"One source told the gossip site, "We need him on the field and if he gets hurt during the off-season doing wild stunts ... it would be bad and it ain't worth it.  He's too valuable to the team."

Another concerned player told TMZ, "If he gets a busted ear drum or an infection, it could have serious effects on his off-season training."

Why the Detroit organization would even allow Suh to take a plunge into the pool had the Lions players scratching their heads.

One source — who happens to be African-American — added, "He's a big dude ... and 'black' and 'pool' don't mix.  He's built for football .. not belly flops."

Tune in for Anderson, endure Webb and stay for Suh.
