Dallas area earthquakes suggest God is a Lions fan

The Detroit Lions lost to the Dallas Cowboys, 24-20, after a game-changing penalty call was overturned without explanation in the fourth quarter on Sunday.

On 3rd and 1 with 8:25 left and a 20-17 lead, Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens obviously had his hands all over tight end Brandon Pettigrew before the interference call was reversed. 

Apparently The Big Guy upstairs was watching and, contrary to everything Jerry Jones believes, He just might a Lions fan.

On Tuesday, after the NFL admitted blowing the call, nine small earthquakes rattled North Texas hours apart — suspiciously close to AT&T Stadium — the scene of the fateful call.

Coincidence? Hmm.

Since 2008, there had only been one reported earthquake in what is known as the Fort Worth Basin. 

The U.S. Geological Service pinpointed the epicenters of the first four quakes to northeast Irving, a Dallas suburb. At least two of those could be felt throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Thankfully, there were no injuries or serious damage.

Seismologists installed a new earthquake-monitoring device in Irving this week, after minor shock waves rocked an area which is near the site of the Cowboys' former football stadium.

I guess even He makes mistakes too.

Vin Scully was calling the Freeway Series between the Dodgers and Angels when an earthquake shook Dodger Stadium Friday night.

Like a chill SoCal dude, the legendary announcer calmly continued his play-by-play commentary of the sixth-inning earthquake like he was calling a routine baseball grounder.

"A little tremor in the ballpark," Scully told viewers as Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis waited for a pitch from Garrett Richards of the Angels. "I am not sure if the folks felt it but we certainly felt it here in press-box row. A tremor and only that, thank goodness."

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, that "little tremor" was a magnitude 5.1 earthquake that occurred at 9:09 p.m. PT and was centered near Brea in Orange County. The quake produced over 20 aftershocks and caused some serious damage throughout the area.

The game went on without incident.

The unflappable 86-year-old Scully later recounted the massive 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in the Bay Area — which occurred just before a game of the World Series — and expressed concern for the lights guy.

Small earthquake hits near Oakland during Chargers-Raiders game

For NFL fans on the east coast getting up to your first cup of coffee Monday morning, two things happened in Oakland while you were sleeping. First, there was an NFL game between the Chargers and Raiders which kicked off at 11:35 ET (and ended during your REM stage) and there was an earthquake during the second quarter of the game.

Neither of which anyone on the Right Coast has a clue about —and couldn't tell a Janikowski from a Richter Scale.

The quake only added more freakishness to the latest starting game in NFL history.

The 3.1 earthquake had an epicenter about 17 miles from O.co Coliseum in Oakland, according to the United State Geological Survey. The game didn't stop because of the earthquake, but it was felt at the stadium, as you can see in this tweet from the San Francisco Chronicle's Ann Killion.

Oakland had a 14-0 lead when the earthquake hit and stretched that to 17-0 before halftime. 

Terrelle Pryor seems to be empowered by earthquakes — or late kickoff times — because he's had his best first half of the year. Through the first two quarters, Pryor was 13 of 18 for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

Pryor then set up a late field goal by turning a potential sack into a third-and-long conversion that gave the Raiders a 27-17 victory.

San Diego didn't seem to be enjoying the late kickoff and the earthquakes as much as the Raiders. For the first time this season, the Chargers failed to score a point in the first half.
