Odell Beckham Jr. gets crowd's approval for 'almost' making another one-handed catch (VIDEO)

Odell Beckham Jr. almost broke the Internet again after almost making another sensational one-handed catch during a preseason game Saturday night.

In the second quarter of of the "Snoopy Bowl" between the New York Giants and the New York Jets, OBJ almost came down with a gravity-defying, one-handed grab by the sideline.

And it has to come to the point these days where the Giants' star receiver now gets roaring cheers even for near-misses — although he did almost make the catch over all-world cornerback Darelle Revis.

Unfortunately, on this one, OBJ had one foot out of bounds. But the Giants fans didn't mind.
Sounds like almost does count in Giants football.

Darrelle Revis welcomed 'home' by formerly bitter Jets fans

It seems like just last year that New York Jets fans went nuts and set fire to their Darrelle Revis No. 24 jerseys after the cornerback signed with the hated New England Patriots.

Oh wait, it was.

However, after he announced on Twitter Tuesday that he's returning to the team that drafted him 14th overall back in 2007, some Jets fans are in a forgiving mood.

And then there was New England's reaction:

Nice little detour to get a ring.

Darrelle Revis' best memory of Jets at MetLife Stadium ... none: Report

Former Jets star Darrelle Revis was back in a familiar place to face the Giants in a preseason game Thursday night. Only this time in a Patriots uniform.

When the All-Pro cornerback walked into MetLife Stadium — the place where Revis spent his first six NFL seasons with the Jets developing into a superstar — he drew a blank when asked if there was a single memory that stood out during that time.

"Not really. I only played here for two years in this new stadium," Revis recalled, forgetting he actually played from 2010-12.

"Every time I come here it feels like a new feeling. It's a brand new stadium. It is a nice stadium, but it really doesn't [have any memories that stick out].

"I've moved on from that situation."

Besides an injury-shortened season and the dreadful Jets teams of the past few years,  maybe the color scheme had something to do with Revis' MetLife void.

"It's blue and red in here [for the Giants] right now," he said. "It's not green and white [for the Jets]."

Revis didn't play at all in the Giants 16-13 preseason win, but wants everyone to know that when he returns to the Meadowlands with the Patriots to play the Jets on Dec. 21, it will be like any other game.

"I played the Jets last year when I was in Tampa," he said. "It's football. It doesn't matter who's on the schedule and who we play and what team I was on before. All of that stuff is out the door. I'm not going to put no added pressure on me. This is football."

Jets still making bucks on Tebow and Revis jerseys

Forget that Darrelle Revis and Tim Tebow haven't played for the New York Jets since last season— make that barely played — the Jets Shop at the team's website still sells their Gang Green jerseys for them both —and at reduced prices!

Pay no mind to the fact that neither of those guys —also Shaun Ellis and Bart Scott — is still on the Jets roster, their jerseys still are. But, if you want a Jets jersey for some Jets stars actually playing on the team, you can forget about it. Let's say your Christmas gift list calls for a Muhammad Wilkerson or Sheldon Richardson, well, you're out of luck.

All is not lost, however, reports nj.com. You can still get a Jets jersey on the Jets' website customized with Richardson's or Wilkerson's name and number for the low, low price of $145. Want to get it cheaper? You might have to wait till those guys no longer play for the Jets.

Florida city to be renamed 'Revis Island' for one day

Who hasn't wanted to own their own private island  — or at least have one named after themselves? Darrelle Revis has made "Revis Island" his boastful nickname during his NFL playing career but now the cornerback will have one that actually exists.

The mayor of Treasure Island, Fla., Bob Minning, has issued a special proclamation that will rename his city Revis Island for one day to honor the Tampa Bay defensive stud.
Here are the details from the Buccaneers official website:

According to the mayoral proclamation, on Thursday, September 12, Treasure Island, Florida will hereby become "Revis Island, Florida" for one day — and Revis Island is described in the proclamation as "an island filled with interceptions, touchdown returns and batted passes."

"I'm honored and humbled to receive this special honor from the City of Treasure Island," said Revis. "Ever since I became a Buccaneer, the support I've received from the Tampa Bay community has been tremendous. I'll do my best to live up to this honor on Sunday afternoon in our home opener against the New Orleans Saints."

When asked to describe the differences between Treasure Island and Revis Island, Mayor Minning paused briefly before replying: "In Treasure Island, we have the most beautiful beaches in all of Tampa Bay, and we always remind beachgoers to wear the appropriate sun screen. But I guess at Revis Island, you don't need any sun screen -- because at Revis Island, you're ALWAYS covered!"

Ha! Good one.

If you're thinking about visiting Revis Island that particular day, you should know the 5.3 sun-drenched city is west of of Tampa on the Gulf. The sea turtle "lights out" ban is still in effect but you might get a glimpse of the egg-laying reptiles on their nightly trek.

Shorts and flip-flops a must. Helmets optional.

Darrelle Revis tosses out first pitch at Rays game

It didn't take long for Darrelle Revis get the full Welcome Wagon treatment from his new fans on the Sun Coast of Florida last night.  Just hours after signing the dotted line on his new six-year, $96 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former New York Jets cornerback was invited to toss out the first pitch out at Tropicana Field.

Sporting a burnt orange Bucs cap, Revis was introduced to the crowd then lobbed one over the plate. He looked more like Tim Tebow than David Price but was good enough for the crowd out at the Trop.

The Tampa Bay Rays ended up defeating the New York Yankees, 5-1.

You can bet a lot of Jets fans were tossing shoes and choice words in the direction of their flat screens at the same time.

Darrelle Revis gets MRI in New York, says 'I'm all good'

Darrelle Revis is back in New York — at least for now.  The New York Jets star cornerback — who could be an ex-Jet as early as this week — arrived for an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan Monday morning wearing a Chicago Bulls cap.  He said, "I'm all good," as he went in for the test.

Asked how the MRI went on their way out of the Upper East Side hospital, Revis' agent Jonathan Feinsod replied, "good."

Revis got the MRI on the same day the Jets' offseason workout program was beginning out in Florham Park, N.J.  The All-Pro cornerback — whose name keeps getting tossed around in trade talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — is expected to join the team later in the day.

The Jets have made it clear that even though Revis is unlikely to be with the team this season, under his contract, Revis would forfeit a $1 million roster bonus, a $1 million workout bonus and a $1 million bonus for showing up at training camp if he doesn't complete 80% of the team's offseason workouts.

While he would prefer staying in Arizona and working out at the Fischer Sports facility in Phoenix where he spends his offseason, Revis knows a lot of money is at stake.

The Jets have held firm on holding the $3 million if he doesn't honor the terms of his contract, forcing Revis to come back despite his injury situation and a potential trade.

Revis appears to be making strides in his rehab; last week on NFL Network, he was seen running on a treadmill.

Sanchez could be part of Revis trade between Jets and Bucs

The Darrelle Revis trade talks between the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers just got really interesting on Friday and it sounds like Mark Sanchez could be the catalyst for the deal to go through.

The website Pro Football Talk reported the two teams have discussed including Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez in the deal. This would be a big surprise, considering Sanchez’s contract and that the Bucs already have Josh Freeman at quarterback. Sanchez is due to make a guaranteed base salary of $8.25 and he is a $12.8 million salary cap hit. The Jets would likely have to eat some of that money to unload Sanchez, though.

Tampa Bay is already looking at a pretty big price tag for Revis, who is seeking a contract in the neighborhood of $15 million per year. That deal could be structured in a way to minimize his cap hit in 2013, but it is still a lot of money to take on if Sanchez is included.

If the Jets did make the move, it would mean they are seriously considering taking a quarterback with the No. 9 overall pick. West Virginia's Geno Smith is considered the top quarterback in this draft. Sanchez has underachieved in the last two seasons and lost his starting job at the end of last season.

Any trade involving Revis is expected to be done the week before the draft so the Buccaneers get time to have their doctors examine Revis.

The Buccaneers already have Freeman at quarterback — taken 12 picks after Sanchez in the 2009 Draft — but head coach Greg Schiano is reportedly "not on board" with underachieving signal caller.

There has been speculation that the Jets may try to include backup quarterback Tim Tebow in the Revis deal, but there is little evidence of that ever happening.

Jets forcing Revis to participate in voluntary workouts

The New York Jets are once again forcing the hand of their star cornerback Darrelle Revis and, from the looks of things, this relationship is beyond repair.

The team is requiring Revis to report to voluntary workouts — that's voluntary — that begin April 15, according to ESPN.com., despite the fact they may trade him in the following days.

Revis is currently in Arizona rehabilitating his surgically repaired left knee. Revis planned on coming to New Jersey to meet with the team's doctors on April 15, but then return to Arizona to avoid being a distraction as the team tries to trade him, said sources.

The cornerback's name has been tossed around in trade talks all winter and many people around the league believe a deal will get done in the days before the NFL Draft on April 25 — barring complications of his rehabbed knee.

The Jets have been toying all off season with Revis — the best player on the team — and haven't made it clear what they plan to do with him. But this time, the Jets can force Revis' hand because he has $3 million tied up in bonuses that they can refuse to pay if he misses part of the offseason program. With that kind of money on the line, Revis will reluctantly make the trip to New Jersey next week, according to the website, and he is not happy about it.

As part of his 2010 contract, Revis has to report to offseason activities.  He has a $1 million bonus that was activated in March, but paid at a later date, and other workout bonuses to be paid in June and July.  If he doesn't report, he loses the entire $3 million. Simple as that.

The Jets declined comment. But it is pretty well known, according to sources, that owner Woody Johnson doesn't want to sign  Revis to a long-term deal.

If you think those SOS signals are coming from Revis Island — you're wrong. It's from the Jets fans.

Revis' Instagram shot of him and Tulowitzki is just weird

Here are Troy Tulowitzki and Darrelle Revis posing as Where's Waldo and an Egyptian king.  For what reason — who knows.

Revis posted the photo on Instagram and tweeted:

"Me & Troy Tulowitzki chillin lol"

Can't figure out what Waldo has to do with the Colorado Rockies shortstop but Revis is hinting that the New York Jets will be paying a King Tut-like fortune to keep him.

So there you go.

Jets owner, GM & Rex ignore Revis' agents at NFL scouting combine

Revis Island just got a little lonelier if you believe the whispers coming out of the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis about Darrelle Revis — the New York Jets best player.

The New York Daily News is reporting that the Jets contingent — including head coach Rex Ryan, new general manager John Idzik and team owner Woody Johnson — didn't meet or contact Revis' representatives during the combine, fueling speculation that Johnson just doesn't want to pay the Pro Bowl cornerback as the team enters a rebuilding phase in 2013.

During a week when you would think Revis' reps and at least one member of the Jets brass would have rubbed elbows — they didn't even shake hands. Manish Mehta wrote:

One NFC executive told The News that there is a sentiment around the league that Johnson not only isn’t interested in making Revis the highest-paid defensive player in the league, which would mean a salary of around $16 million per year, but that the owner doesn’t want to sign the cornerback to a lucrative long-term deal at all given the dire state of the franchise.

The cap-strapped Jets do not figure to be in the playoff conversation entering the 2013 season. They aren’t likely to make a splash when free agency opens next month either, as they quietly try to rebuild with younger, cheaper players.

The Jets Big 3 did meet with representatives of Santonio Holmes, Dustin Keller, Jeff Cumberland, Austin Howard, Shonn Greene and LaRon Landry during the week but elected not to meet with Revis' guys.

The snub comes one month after reports surfaced that the Jets were shopping Revis — who is  a free agent at the end of the 2013 season — around and might even trade him.

Revis' agent, Neil Schwartz confirmed that he was in Indy for the week but would not say if he had talked with the Jets.

Idzik wouldn't reveal whether or not he had scheduled a meeting with Revis' people about the cornerback's future with the Jets or even contacted them.

The organization’s handling of the Revis situation is peculiar especially after only three years ago — when the Jets reworked his contract — the team said they wanted Revis to be a "Jet for Life."

A fruit fly's life maybe.

Tannenbaum: I was responsible for Tebow trade, Sanchez contract

Mike Tannenbaum spoke to reporters for the first time Tuesday since being fired by the New York Jets on New Year's Eve.

The former Jets general manager — who was piloting the Jets front office while the team fell into disarray — broke his silence to discuss his perceived failures on Super Bowl Radio Row in New Orleans yesterday.

Tannenbaum didn't shy away from his two biggest decisions — the Tim Tebow trade and the re-signing of Mark Sanchez.

Rival NFL executives believe Tannenbaum left a huge mess for new GM John Idzik to clean up but Tannenbaum — who hopes to find a job in the NFL again — disagreed with the scenario the media has painted of his tenure with the Jets.  He had an optimistic slant on the Jets salary-cap fiasco, Idzik's job at hand and the the team's potential.

"The future for the Jets is bright," Tannenbaum said. "There are a lot of good young players ... From a salary-cap standpoint, we had a plan in place.  John's [Idzik] a really smart guy, dealt with the cap, I'm sure he's going to take my plan and tweak it and put his own views on it, but that plan will be played out over the next few weeks."

Tannenbaum was pretty open when it came to some of his most controversial decisions.

On giving Sanchez a contract extension that guaranteed him $8.25 million next season:

“Our thinking on that was Mark is only one of five quarterbacks in the history of pro football to win 30 or more games in his first three years. In the 2011 season, he had scored 32 TDs, 26 throwing and six rushing. Like any contract we do, we thought it would be a win-win. Get cost certainty from a standpoint of we know what he’s going to cost and he gets the benefit of some security. Based on how we played this year, that’s a decision as of now that doesn’t look very good.”

On the ruinous Tebow trade, Tannebaum took sole responsibility:

“So just going on the Tim decision, we felt like after the 2011 season we lost something with Brad Smith not being there, so we felt like bringing Tim in, he was going to be a guy who could replace Brad’s production. Obviously, it didn’t work out the way we thought it was going to, and ultimately that was my call. But we did have discussions about it, and ultimately that was my decision to make the trade.

“It’s one of those decisions where it didn’t work out the way we thought.”

Tannenbaum even chimed in on the time bomb facing Idzik right now and the rumors Tannenbaum  was trying to shop Darrelle Revis even before his ACL injury in Week 2 last season.  He said if he was still  GM, he'd be discussing the long-term merits of signing the All-Pro cornerback to a mega-deal.

"I didn't have plans to trade Darrelle through this past season," he said.

At no time did Tannenbaum burn any bridges and said he even called Idzik to congratulate his replacement and has spoken with owner Woody Johnson.  He said he enjoyed working with Rex Ryan up until the very end.  The "free agent" hinted that he had entertained a few job offers but wouldn't go into detail.

'I've talked to people on teams and outside of teams," Tannenbaum said. "As of now, I'm not sure what I'm going to do."

Jets planned on trading Revis 'before' ACL injury: Report

The squall that is Darrelle Revis might have turned into a Category # 24 storm after it was revealed this week that the New York Jets had entertained thoughts of unloading their best player to avoid a big payout when his contract is up after next season.

The Jets did everything they could to soothe the ego of the "speechless" cornerback who is seeking a contract  similar or "just north of" the deal the Bills gave defensive end Mario Williams — six years, $96 million with $50 mil guaranteed, according to The New York Post.

Or enough to buy a real island.

Now, two NFL sources told The Post Friday that the Jets were actually floating their interest around the league in trading Revis before he blew out his left knee against the Dolphins in Week 2 — a clear indication the team has no plans to sign him to the long-term contract he wants.

One source told The Post that, before the injury, more than one NFL GM reached out to Revis' agents to say the Jets were looking into their options for trading the former All-Pro.

Sooo ...  was Revis already aware that he might not have been in the Jets' long-term plans or what?

Revis' agents declined comment yesterday.

The 27-year-old Revis is set to make $6 million in 2013 — $3 million in base pay, the rest in bonuses — before becoming a free agent. The Jets need to re-sign or trade him before he leaves the team without them getting anything in return.

The Jets are currently $19 million over the 2013 salary cap and desperate to get more talent on their roster and build through the draft.  A big Revis contract would put a speed bump on that avenue to rebuilding the team.

While the Jets were noncommittal on the irked Revis' future with the team during the introduction of new general manager John Idzik on Thursday, they jumped through hoops to clarify the situation later.

"I reached out to Darrelle and I made sure he knew exactly where we were coming from," Idzik said on NBC Sports Network's "Pro Football Talk. "And that this was my first day on the job, and our message to everyone was, 'Give us a chance to know each other and introduce ourselves to each other.'

"Ultimately, that's the basis of comparison to whatever you may contemplate doing.  We haven't taken that first step and that's what I relayed to Darrelle."

Idzik said Revis "reacted well" to his call.  "My feeling was that he was appreciative to hear from me about what happened."

Welcome to the Jets Mr. Idzik. Have fun.

Rex Ryan officially puts Darrelle Revis on IR

It seemed like it was long overdue, but Rex Ryan finally chose reality over optimism and put Darrelle Revis on season-ending injured reserve on Friday — three weeks after the New York Jets star cornerback tore the ACL in his left knee.

Before anyone asks, What took so long?  Remember, it was Ryan who said he would wait until after knee surgery just in case there was a ".0002% chance" that Revis could return for the Super Bowl — meaning this season's Super Bowl.

That Miracle at MetLife  looks unrealistic now.

"I think it's a bunch of zeroes period," Ryan said Friday.

Ryan, who kept his defensive star off the IR since the Sept. 23 injury against the Miami Dolphins so he would be available for a possible Jets Super Bowl appearance, said Revis will have surgery next week to repair the damaged knee.

In the Miami game, Revis had landed awkwardly and grabbed his knee without making any contact with another player.  He had been working out at the team's facility.

Whether or not Ryan's decision to keep Revis on the roster was a motivational tool for the rest of the team, the dubious plan seemed illogical from the start.  The injury — which usually needs a 6-9 month recovery process — probably never would have healed by the Feb. 3 Super Bowl anyway.

Ryan was compelled to cash in the .0002%-odds after an injury to safety Eric Smith forced the coach to fill another spot on the 53-man roster.

The Jets could have placed Revis on the new designated IR — which could allow him to return later this year, but Ryan was thinking about his cornerback's future.

"That injury, as everybody assumed, would take more time than the season to come back from," said Ryan.  "The more I really paid attention to the doctors and (trainer) John Mellody, I think the decision was pretty obvious."

What might be more conspicuous is the fact that the stumbling Jets' own slim .0002% chances of getting to the NFL's big game have already added a bunch of more zeroes.

Jets' Darrelle Revis ruled out of Sunday's game against Steelers

The New York Jets lost a key part of Gang Green's defense — for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers  —after Darrelle Revis was ruled out of playing under the new concussion precautions set by the NFL.

Revis was cleared to practice on a limited basis Friday, but he won't be prowling the the field on Sunday.  In fact, the cornerback won't even be making the trip to Pittsburgh, according to coach Rex Ryan.

It's a tough break for the western Pennsylvania native.

Revis was observed participating in individual drills during the 30-minute window available to the media.  It was unclear if he took part in the team drills.

The All-Pro had been held out all week while undergoing mandatory tests after suffering a "mild concussion" when teammate Bart Scott inadvertently kicked Revis in the head during the second half of last week's 48-28 rout of the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.

All week, Revis left the door open for being well enough to play but, under the NFL's new concussion guidelines, Revis must be cleared by both the team physician and an independent neurologist before he could be cleared to suit up.

Those tests are usually conducted on Wednesday or Thursday, which meant practicing today was an encouraging sign he could possibility play next week against the Miami Dolphins.

Sounds like a case of better safe than sorry.

Kyle Wilson will take Revis' spot in the starting lineup.

Jets call on ex-military members to help build team unity

The New York Jets continued what has been a season-long arrangement between the team and a group of former military special forces operators to help with the goal of defining leadership and building unity amongst a locker room that had been divided by turmoil.

On Wednesday, 19 veteran players went through eight hours of "training" covering themes covering everything from building camaraderie to "never leave a man behind."

That last military credo is now printed on signs which hang inside the Jets practice facility.

"Our goal is to help them win a championship," said Jason Van Camp, a former Green Beret who founded the "Mission Essential" two years ago.  " Coach [Rex] Ryan said at the end of last year, 'I lost the pulse of the team.  I need to get a better handle on the chemistry issues.'  That's why he hired us.  To help him do that."

Van Camp — a West point Graduate with 12 years in the Army and a Bronze star to prove it — was secretive about the training procedure but explained that the program simulated real-life situations and experiences that soldiers encounter.

Ryan first contacted Van Camp in February — fresh from a football season that collapsed in disarray — to help evaluate and add cohesiveness to squad.

The Jets head coach doesn't confuse the sort of war that his Gang Green faces with the life-and-death battles the military members know all too well.  He knows the program only simulates the real-life combat situations the military members experienced.

"We're not in those situations, thank goodness," said Ryan about the "Jets basic training."  "But (football) is still about teamwork, still about trying to accomplish certain missions we were set on, and relying on each other.  Those are some strong messages they delivered to us."

After meeting the combat-wounded veterans — including a double amputee on Wednesday — cornerback Darrelle Revis said the program helped players "be ready to handle" specific situations that come up during a season.

Last night, the Jets finally ended their preseason touchdown drought but lost, 28-10, to the Philadelphia Eagles without either Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow.

Ryan told Van Camp he would like to put every Jets player and coach through the boot camp as long as he runs the team.  The training continues Monday with a two-hour seminar as part of an NFL life skills event.

"It's very innovative, and risky, but it's going to pay off for him," said Van Camp.  "You have U.S. special-forces soldiers working their [butts] off to make this happen for him and for the New York Jets."

Mark Sanchez clears things up: 'This is my huddle'

Hey, it worked for Eli Manning last year and maybe it just could work for Mark Sanchez— tooting your own horn.

Maybe he isn't "elite" like Manning claimed he was last summer but Sanchez sounds like he wants the respect a starting quarterback with two championship games under his belt usually attains.

The other day, the New York Jets quarterback agreed with Bart Scott's assertion that Sanchez could be one of the top 10 NFL quarterbacks in the league. Yesterday, Sanchez took another big step forward before firmly planting it down by stating: "this is my huddle."

While some people still doubt Sanchez is even the best quarterback on his own team, maybe this is a sign the fourth-year starter is morphing into the leader the Jets so desperately need.

"One of the things I felt more comfortable doing, especially with the younger wideout group," said Sanchez, "was getting on those guys and letting them know when you come in the huddle, not to be selfish here, but this is my huddle.  Don't talk.  Name your position quickly and let's go."

The 25-year old's numbers may not say elite but the way he is conducting himself in camp is speaking volumes.

"Get lined up because there's a lot of stuff I need to go through to get us in the right position to be successful and Coach is expecting me to do that," Sanchez told his charges in the practice huddle.  "If you're not on task, I'm going to get yelled at.  I'm going to be standing there holding the ball."

While Sanchez admits his new found vocal leadership doesn't come naturally, he believes he is getting the hang of it.

"It's not the easiest thing to do," he said.  "It's no necessarily my genetic makeup to just start yelling at guys.  There's a time and a place to give somebody a hug and give them a chest bump and a high-five, and there's other times when you've got find the right ways to reach people.  I think I'm really navigating that a lot better now.

"It's natural to have a little bit of emotion out there, I'm not a robot."

Sanchez may have puffing out his chest after Tim Tebow's final day at camp was an unmitigated flop.  The "backup" quarterback's 11-on-11 stats on the day read: 2-for-10, 1 INT and 4 sacks.  Did someone say Wildcat?

Still, it's getting the respect of the team that Sanchez so dearly wants and Darrelle Revis threw his vote to the incumbent.

"If we lose, it falls on Mark," said Revis, the defensive back and unofficial team leader.  "If we win, it falls on Mark."

Sanchez probably couldn't think of a better compliment.

Rex Ryan to Santonio: Keep quiet on Tebow-Sanchez controversy

Everyone at the New York Jets' opening day of training camp Thursday was on their best behavior and Rex Ryan intends to keep it that way.  The team— which seems to have more dramas than an episode of "Dallas"— has a quarterback controversy ready to boil over and the head coach wants his players— specifically Santonio Holmes— to turn down the heat.

Ryan publicly took on Holmes for the first time by telling his wideout to put a lid on the Tim Tebow-Mark Sanchez pot boiler and just be quiet, reports Gary Myers of the New York Daily News.

Holmes turned up the flame on the controversy when he was asked by the NFL Network if a two-quarterback system can work in the NFL.  "No," Holmes answered.  "I don't think so, because you have to let one quarterback get in the rhythm of a game."

It was the first time Ryan came down on a player for yapping about the quarterback saga— at least publicly.  The head coach has a lot [job?] riding on this season and is basing some of the Jets' wins on Tebow— the unorthodox Wildcat quarterback.

It's no secret that the Jets traded for Tebow to give the team a one-two punch with the Wildcat system and to possibly light a fire on the underachieving Sanchez.

Ryan sounded annoyed after he heard about Holmes' public assessment of the quarterback situation on ESPN earlier this week.

"I brought Santonio in here to be a receiver.  Not to be the offensive coordinator.  And that's the way I like it," added Ryan.  "I love Santonio, but if I wanted to hire him as our offensive coordinator, we would have."

Ryan— in his new Take Charge of the Team mode—said he won't let player's opinions influence his choices.

"We will make those decisions," he said.  "We will always do what we think is in the best interest of our football team."

By publicly reprimanding Holmes, Ryan might have opened up a whole other can of worms after Darrelle Revis threw his opinion into the mix.  When Revis— another recurring character in the ongoing Jets soap opera— was informed of Ryan's comments by the Daily News, the defensive back had his coach's back.

"Rex is right," he said.  "Santonio is a receiver.  So he has to play receiver. He has to stick to that.  Rex usually doesn't call out his players.  Maybe that might have been a moment where he needed to stand up for Mark and Tim."

It doesn't matter if Tebow says and does everything right by the Good Book or the playbook.  The "backup" quarterback hasn't even admitted he wants to take Sanchez's job but— as long as he is in the Cortland, N.Y. camp— Tebowmania will  polarize the fans and the team.

Tebow worried about having enough underwear in training camp

The first day of training camp opened for the New York Jets and what was the the most important thing Tim Tebow wanted to bring to Cortland, N.Y.— enough underwear.

Who cares if he is battling Mark Sanchez for the starting job or if Darrelle Revis was actually going to show up, having enough tightey-whiteys sounded like his No. 1 priority.  After all, it is summer camp.

When a reporter asked Tebow what stuff he brought to camp, Tebow put his mouth where his money is.

"Like stuff ?," he asked.  "Enough underwear.  That's always key, new pairs of Jockeys."

Granted, Tebow has an endorsement deal with the undergarment company, so his little plug is understandable.

It might be a little more information than most fans cared to hear, but get ready to hear a lot more stupid questions as Tebowmania gets cranked up this summer.

I'm sure the good folks at Jockey will make sure their spokesman doesn't go commando for too long.

Darrelle Revis expected to report to Jets camp on time

New York Jets Darrelle Revis is expected to report to the team's training camp July 26 with the rest of his teammates— thus avoiding his second holdout in three years.

A person familiar with the All-Pro cornerback told USA Today Friday that he expects Revis to arrive at the Cortland, N.Y. camp on time and begin working out with the team.

Revis previously expressed uncertainty about the status of his current contract and was looking for the Jets to re-do his deal.

Arguably the Jets' best player, Revis said last month he was not sure if he would report to training camp on July 26 unless the team made some changes in his four-year, $46 million dollar contract.  The contract hasn't changed so there's no telling why he changed his mind.

Revis is due to make $13.5 million over the next two seasons— including $7.5 million in 2012.  He made $32.5 million in salary and bonuses the last two years after renegotiating his contract a few days before the 2010 season.  The stubborn defensive back held out for 35 days and missed the entire Jets training camp that summer.

Widely considered the best cornerback in the NFL, Revis seems to pull this stunt every summer.  It's getting to be tiresome.  The Jets camp is already interesting enough with the Tebow/Sanchez saga and Rex Ryan's weight loss.
