Eli Manning says he’s been working on touchdown dance routine

Nobody will ever confuse Eli Manning and Cam Newton on the playing field in any way, shape or dab. But, when the two quarterbacks square off this Sunday at MetLife Stadium, don't be surprised if you see Eli bust a move or two.

Asked if he has a dance routine that compares to Newton’s, Manning, in his best deadpan face, said that he has one in the works.

“I haven't polished it up yet,” he said Wednesday. “It’s got more work to do. It’s been in progress for 12 years. It’s still a little rusty. I haven’t fine-tuned it yet. But when it’s ready I’ll break it out. I’ve put in a lot of time in the offseason and Tuesdays doing it, but it doesn’t feel right yet.”

But the rest of the Giants locker room had a hard time imagining Manning performing as elaborate a dance as Newton. And the fact that Eli is no Victor Cruz does gives his teammates some cause for concern.

“If he dabbed, they might flag us for celebrating,” defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said. “I don’t even know if he knows what it is.”

“Maybe Odell might teach him. You never know.”

Damontre Moore cut by Giants after locker room fight over free Beats By Dre headphones

Defensive end Damontre Moore is out of a job with the New York Giants after losing his cool when he didn't get a pair of free Beats by Dre headphones and got into a fight with a teammate over the handout.

The disappointing Moore, who had yet to live up to the promise of becoming the Giants’ next great pass rusher, was released by the team on Friday for “discipline-related reasons,” according to a team source.

Moore, who was paid $585,000 this season by the Giants, was released after fighting with defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins over the $300 blue Beats By Dre headphones, being handed out as gifts by teammate Odell Beckham Jr.

On Thursday, Beckham Jr. was distributing the headphones and several veterans — including Jenkins — tried to grab multiple pairs.

And, at the start of the media access period the same day, Jenkins was seen leaving the locker room with several pairs.

Giants GM Jerry Reese, in a release announcing the roster move, said only, “We made the move today in the interest of both parties,” without elaboration. Tom Coughlin made no mention of Moore during his media briefing in the Friday morning before practice — in which Moore was not a participant — and the head coach was not made available again after the announcement.

Moore had already warmed the bench and lightened his wallet after some other boneheaded moves he made this season.

The 23-year-old was sat by Coughlin for the Dallas game on Oct. 25, one week after the lineman committed an inexcusable penalty for roughing the passer for a late hit on quarterback Sam Bradford in a Monday night loss to the Eagles, drawing a $20,000 fine. He also was fined $10k for a hit on Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger last season.

The Giants’ third-round draft pick (81st overall) in the 2013 draft out of Texas A&M, totaled 8.5 sacks in 42 games over three seasons, including only three this year.

Brandon Marshall's wife has response to Cullen Jenkins' 'girl' insult during Jets-Giants game

Cullen Jenkins got a little up-close-and-personal — maybe too personal — with Brandon Marshall during the Jets-Giants game on Sunday.

You remember, Marshall said he got into it with Jenkins because Jenkins "disrespected" Marshall's wife with a comment he made as the halftime buzzer sounded at MetLife Stadium.

“Some things are off-limits, and he made a comment,” Marshall said. “He said my ‘girl.’ He didn’t know I was married. I don’t care. There’s not enough money on this earth for someone to disrespect my wife.”

Well, on Tuesday night's episode of Showtime's "Inside the NFL," Marshall's wife, Michi, got a chance to respond to Jenkins and praise how her husband rushed to her defense. Michi was a guest on the show, which has Marshall as a regular panelist.

"Well, I didn't know what happened until afterward," she said. "Even the next day, I got a text [regarding Marshall confronting Jenkins] that said, 'Oh, it's so sweet.' It's like: What happened? But I will say, chivalry is not dead, and I'm happy about that. But because it wasn't a detriment to the team, I'm OK with it." 

She was probably referring to the fact that Marshall wasn't penalized for the verbal exchange on this play: 

Marshall also spoke about the incident again during the show.

"Hey, crime of passion, man," he said. "Listen, there are some things that are off limits on the football field. And I think talking about guys' kids and wives is off limits. But I have to say, Cullen Jenkins is a stand-up guy. He not only apologized during the game, but he called me [Monday] and also apologized again."

Chivalrous and forgiving. What a guy.

Giants team flight delayed three hours after brutal loss

It was bad enough that the New York Giants knew a somber four-hour flight back to New Jersey Sunday night would feel like an eternity, but imagine the added misery of prolonging the pain for another few hours waiting around for it.

While the team definitely didn't expect to get much sleep after the gut-wrenching loss to the Cowboys, their long night of heartbreak got a lot more unbearable.

Their charter flight from Dallas home to Newark was delayed 21/2 hours because of mechanical problems and did not take off until 4:30 a.m. ET, arriving in New Jersey on Monday around 7:30 a.m..

"There was not much sleep, nobody got any sleep,'' Tom Coughlin said of the team's disposition Monday. "The guys were tired, and they were sad, they were disappointed . . . It was a different kind of day, let's put it that way.''

It was the kind of experience that even a visit from Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan couldn't fully erase.

"Some of the coaches helped pick my spirits up,'' said Cullen Jenkins about Strahan's attempted morale boost. "Strahan was in the building and he talked to us and that helped a lot. It’s things like when we just have to rally together, stay behind each other, and get through this together."

Easier said than done.

Cullen Jenkins calls out NFL on sack fine via Twitter: Report

Cullen Jenkins thinks that the NFL considers a clean sack more violent than brawling and isn't too happy about it.

The Giants defensive lineman was fined $16,537 by the NFL for Sunday's questionable roughing-the-passer penalty on Rams quarterback Shaun Hill. The 11-year veteran voiced his displeasure, first on Twitter Wednesday morning and later with reporters, over being penalized more than the players involved in an ugly brawl that led to two Giants and one Ram being ejected.

On Wednesday morning, he tweeted:

“The fact of the matter is I was fined more than people who got into a fight,” he said later after practice. “It was puzzling to me. I don’t know what their system is and [if] they’re grading on a curve or something. I don’t know, but it’s interesting.

“It always reminds you the type of league you’re in. … I’ve rarely been fined. It’s not like they can sit up here and say I’m a dirty player.”

Wide receiver Preston Parker, who threw two punches during the brawl with the Rams, was fined $15,000, as was defensive end Damontre Moore. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was fined $10,000 and kicker Josh Brown and long snapper Zack DeOssie were docked $8,200 apiece, according to nj.com.

Jenkins read off part of the letter he received from the league to reporters, which said: “Specifically on a pass play you unnecessarily landed on the opposing quarterback with your body weight.”

“That’s called a tackle,” he said, incredulously. “How else do you tackle? Come down without anything on them? They’re not even down by contact then. I did gain a little weight when I had the calf injury.”

Jenkins is unsure he wants to appeal the fine. He could simply pay it, which would go to charity.

“Maybe I don’t and just let the money go to charity, so it looks like they care about these things they talk about,” he said. “Who knows? I don’t.”

Jerry Jones accuses Giants of faking injuries

Jerry Jones finally had a reason to gloat and then added insult to the Giants’ injuries after Sunday night's 36-31 whooping over his New York rival, accusing Big Blue of faking injuries to slow the Cowboys hurry-up offense.

"It was so obvious it was funny," the Cowboys owner said after his team beat the Giants for the first time inside his billion dollar playground — AT&T Stadium.

Jones was likely referring to Cullen Jenkins, who briefly went down midway through the second quarter, but returned just plays later. Not that it helped; the drive ended with a Jason Witten 15-yard TD catch.

On back-to-back plays the Giants lost linebacker Dan Connor to a burner and Jenkins to an apparent shoulder injury, but the Cowboys thought there was some gamesmanship involved.

"I thought us experts on football were the only ones who could see that," the Cowboys owner and general manager said with a wink. "No, it was so obvious it was funny. It wasn't humorous because we really wanted the advantage and knew we could get it if we could get the ball snapped."

The crowd booed at New York's lame tactic, but no penalties were called. Coach Jason Garrett had a conversation with referee Tony Corrente during the break in action.

Last week the NFL sent a memo to the 32 teams about "faking injuries," and a team would be subject to disciplinary action even if no penalties were called in the game.

Connor, who suffered similar injuries last year for the Cowboys, did not return to the game. Jenkins jogged off the field and quickly returned. The Cowboys ended the drive with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Jason Witten for a 13-3 lead.

"I thought we got them moving a lot and got them pretty tired during that stretch," Romo said. "They obviously had a bunch of injuries in that stretch. Tough break, I know. Seemed to come back pretty good after that though."
