Damontre Moore cut by Giants after locker room fight over free Beats By Dre headphones

Defensive end Damontre Moore is out of a job with the New York Giants after losing his cool when he didn't get a pair of free Beats by Dre headphones and got into a fight with a teammate over the handout.

The disappointing Moore, who had yet to live up to the promise of becoming the Giants’ next great pass rusher, was released by the team on Friday for “discipline-related reasons,” according to a team source.

Moore, who was paid $585,000 this season by the Giants, was released after fighting with defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins over the $300 blue Beats By Dre headphones, being handed out as gifts by teammate Odell Beckham Jr.

On Thursday, Beckham Jr. was distributing the headphones and several veterans — including Jenkins — tried to grab multiple pairs.

And, at the start of the media access period the same day, Jenkins was seen leaving the locker room with several pairs.

Giants GM Jerry Reese, in a release announcing the roster move, said only, “We made the move today in the interest of both parties,” without elaboration. Tom Coughlin made no mention of Moore during his media briefing in the Friday morning before practice — in which Moore was not a participant — and the head coach was not made available again after the announcement.

Moore had already warmed the bench and lightened his wallet after some other boneheaded moves he made this season.

The 23-year-old was sat by Coughlin for the Dallas game on Oct. 25, one week after the lineman committed an inexcusable penalty for roughing the passer for a late hit on quarterback Sam Bradford in a Monday night loss to the Eagles, drawing a $20,000 fine. He also was fined $10k for a hit on Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger last season.

The Giants’ third-round draft pick (81st overall) in the 2013 draft out of Texas A&M, totaled 8.5 sacks in 42 games over three seasons, including only three this year.

Merry Christmas.

NFL deal prohibits players from wearing 'Beats by Dre' headphones: Report

Beats by Dre headphones may be dominating the market, but you won't be seeing them on NFL players — at least not on game day.

The NFL has secured a deal with BOSE that limits what players can wear during football-related activities. And that includes wearing Beats and all other headphones while on camera.

Essentially, players can’t wear the headphones any time the lights are on, according to Sporting News' Jasmine Watkins:

"The restriction of other headphone usage includes preseason training camps, practice sessions, game day, postgame interviews, and it remains in place until 90 minutes after the game has ended."

Players such as 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman — who both have appeared in Beats by Dre commercials — will now have abide by the new rules.

Players can still don the Dre earmuffs if they like — only by covering the logo.

Earlier this year, the World Cup banned their athletes from donning the headgear as well, saying that players could only wear headphones from their sponsor, Sony.

Beats issued a statement expressing their disappointment in the news:

"Over the last few years athletes have written Beats into their DNA as part of the pre-game ritual," the statement says. "Music can have a significant positive effect on an athlete's focus and mental preparedness and has become as important to performance as any other piece of equipment."

Seeing how NFL players usually react to newly imposed rules, something tells me they aren't going to take this partial ban lightly. So we might see some creative headphone covers down the road.
