Fans to get nostalgic Opening Day subway ride to Yankee Stadium

Some riders using New York City's subway system to get to Yankee Stadium for Opening Day are also going to get a trip back in time — way back in time.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says a four-car "Nostalgia Special" is scheduled to leave Grand Central Terminal at 11:30 a.m. Monday and run non-stop to the stadium in the Bronx.

The cars will be 1917 Lo-V models, which were used by the subway system until the late 1960s.

The old-time cars have rattan seats and incandescent light bulbs to remind us all of a gentler time in commuting. And when handlebar moustaches were the norm, not just an annoying hipster trend on the L line.

I'm just wondering when the Yankees will salute the teams from the '70s with those old graffiti-covered Redbirds.

Now that was a trip.

The Yankees game against the Toronto Blue Jays starts at 1:05 p.m.
