Mayweather turned down $100 million to fight Pacquiao claims Bob Arum

The Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao drama continues to drag on and overshadow the boxing world.

Just two days before Pacquiao gets ready face Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time on Saturday night, the talk, as always, turned to the Fight of the Century.   Now it is being reported that Mayweather turned down a $100 million offer to face Pacquiao.

Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank joined ESPN 1100 in Las Vegas with Gridlock to talk about Saturday's rematch.  Asked if he thinks a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather will ever happen, Arum dropped this little bit of info:

"We had an offer, a legitimate offer on the table for 180 million dollars and people due to fight and had a big upside of 180 for the two fight camps. That's when he said 55-45 which would've given Mayweather 100 million. (Pacquiao) would've ended up with 80 million and that's still a lot of money right? But Mayweather will not fight him. Now why am I saying that? I'm not saying it to be, I know the guy and I know what his problem is, Mayweather, because we had him for 10 and a half years and his problem was he hated, he never wanted to face a southpaw and a southpaw that can move and punch with his left hand makes Mayweather completely vulnerable."

If the biggest payday in boxing history couldn't entice Mayweather to get into the ring with Pac Man, what's the problem?

Mayweather's former BFF, rapper 5o Cent, thinks he knows why the fighter keeps turning down the possibility of a Pacquiao fight even with the huge $180 million offer that Arum reportedly has from Dubai on the table.

One loss, the aspiring boxing promoter told The Associated Press, and Mayweather would probably never fight again.

"It's all confidence when it comes to Floyd and his  confidence wouldn't be there," said 50 Cent.  "He kind of hand picks who he fights instead of taking the tough fights."

    2. I can see how stupid you are and know anything about boxing. pac is still the man to beat OK. even after that weird loss that I know Juan Manuel took steroids to accomplish, we all know he was tired of losing every fight against pac-man so he took it to the next level (A-Rod and Barry B style) if Mayweather is the man he so claim to be why his so freaking afraid of getting in the ring with pac??? stupid go give your opinion in something that you maybe, maybe you understand.

  3. He won't fight him because he would get his a%& kicked. He only fight people he knows he can beat and turns down anyone who might beat him. Worthless fighter. In my opinion he has never been truely challenged.

  4. Floyd Mayweather Jr.,you are just run throw a jab run fight over the hill fighters and still run around jab, total garbage. You will never be a man and stand and fight a true world class fighter. Why anybody would pay to see your lame efforts doesn't make sense to real fight fans.Fight Manny in a phone booth if your so good or shut up and go become broke and homeless in 5 yrs.Manny is a real fighter and he will stand right in front of you not run like a scared little girl

  5. Bottom line is: Floyd only fights people he knows he can handle.... Most of them have been before or after their primes... He is all about money and with so many fools out there that will watch him fight these mostly has beens, he will keep doing it...... Now what does it do for his claim as the best pound for pound? Alot..... very few have ever had him as the pfp best, if he wants to claim he is the best pfp champ of all time, he needs to do much more than Pac... Let's see him step up and fight today's fighters in their prime... I personally think the best pfp fights should run out of opponents, ex Jones, Leonard, Ali, Pacman......... Mayweather has never even come close to that status.......

    1. Read this article and then maybe you'll understand. Because Marquez had never before fought above 135 lbs and had fought at 130 lbs as recently as March 2008, while Mayweather had campaigned at 147 lbs since 2005, the fight was scheduled to take place at a catchweight of 144 lbs to account for the size disparity between the two fighters. The fight was originally scheduled for July 18, 2009 at the MGM Grand arena but was postponed due to a rib injury sustained by Mayweather. The bout was rescheduled for September 19, 2009. During the official weigh in for their 144 lb bout, Marquez weighed in at 142 lbs and Mayweather weighed in at 146 lbs thereby incurring a financial penalty ($300,000 for each pound over 144 lbs as he was 2 pounds over the catchweight. It was later revealed that the contract was changed a few days prior to the weigh in so that Mayweather would be allowed to weigh up to the welterweight limit of 147 lbs while avoiding paying an additional fine to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, in addition to the fine he agreed to pay to Marquez.

  7. On First Take...Marquez said that Floyd would beat PacMan. Bob Arum is a known liar. I don't believe that he offered Mayweather 100 million. That story would have came out months ago if that was true!! As far as 50 cent the two of them are beefing and he is saying anything to make Floyd mad. 50 is trying to be relevant again. Floyd is one of the greatest fighters EVER!!

    1. C'mon man!!! Boxing is not what it used to be at all. Floyd is scared. Floyd has not fought anybody in their prime!!! Back in the days did you see any boxers run away from a fight??? Hell no!!! It's easy to be the best boxer when you don't face the best. You can't take the money with you when you die but you have your pride. Something that Floyd doesn't know anything about. He's just trying to keep that perfect record by fighting nobodies an we all know it.
