Cardinals' Stephen Piscotty suffers 'head contusion' after violent collision with teammate (VIDEO)

Stephen Piscotty, a rookie outfielder of the St. Louis Cardinals, was taken off the field on a cart after a frightening collision with center fielder Peter Bourjos in the seventh inning of Monday night's game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. 

After the horrific incident, the team announced on Twitter that Piscotty suffered a "head contusion" and was sent to a local hospital. Tests came back negative, but he was being kept overnight for observation.

Piscotty and Bourjos collided after chasing a fly ball deep in the left-center field gap. Piscotty dove in an attempt to catch the ball and slams his head and neck hard into Bourjos' knee — leaving him motionless  near the warning track for several minutes.

Piscotty even managed a little wave with his left hand as he was being carted off the PNC Park field.

Todd Frazier catch leaves Keyvius Sampson in awkward position (VIDEO)

During the bottom of the fourth inning of Tuesday night's Cardinals-Reds game, Cincinnati third baseman Todd Frazier went a long way to catch a foul pop-up off the bat of St. Louis first baseman Matt Adams. Frazier went over the railing of the camera well to make the sensational catch and ended up having to hold on for dear life.

Luckily for him, his pitcher Keyvius Sampson  had his back, his legs and whatever else he could grab.

Sampson's quick reflexes managed to keep Frazier from falling onto a 400mm lens, but in doing so, left himself in an awkward position.

Cardinals fan has Busch Stadium painted on his beer belly (PHOTOS)

It's not unusual for fans to have a favorite team logo or player shaved or tattooed onto their bodies but what does a person do to show his devotion to a whole stadium?

Well, one Cardinals fan showed his love by having a mural of Busch Stadium painted on his gut. 

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch said Jeff Rearden got it painted on at a bar before the game and proudly displayed it for the world to see.

"I just let the artist do whatever she wanted. And she painted this," he said.

Rearden was more than happy to oblige other fans with photographs. But here's hoping nobody asked to see the flagpole.

Cubs fans resort to urinating in beer cups due to Wrigley Field renovations (PHOTOS)

Say what you will about Chicago Cubs fans but when they gotta go, they gotta go.

During the Cubs opening night loss to the Cardinals Sunday night, unfinished renovations at Wrigley Field caused lines to the bathrooms to get so long, some fans relieved themselves by using empty beer cups instead of waiting for a urinal.

Photos of the long lines and cups of urine surfaced on Twitter as fans voiced their frustrations at the stadium delays caused by the construction, with some saying they waited two innings to use the bathroom.

The bleachers at Wrigley are currently off-limits because of the construction and are covered in a tarp honoring the late Ernie Banks as they continue work in that area of the park. The renovations are expected to be completed by June.

Conditions that would even make a goat blush.

Teammates rip jersey from Kolten Wong's back after Game 2 walk-off (PHOTO)

The Cardinals won Game 2 of the NLCS on Kolten Wong's walk-off home run Sunday night against the Giants, and, during the celebration, Wong' teammates literally ripped the jersey off his back.

Cardinals fans clash with Ferguson protesters outside Busch Stadium after NLDS game (VIDEO)

Cardinals fans exiting NLDS Game 3 found themselves in the middle of a peaceful group of Ferguson protesters outside Busch Stadium Monday night — and not everyone was happy after the home town win.

The exiting fans immediately begin chanting "USA USA" and "Africa Africa" until tensions rose to an ugly level. 

The tragic incident where Michael Brown was shot dead by a police officer in August seems to have turned Cards fan against Cards fan. Some Ferguson protesters had vowed to disrupt NFL games and even the World Series games if the Cardinals make it there.

And, after seeing that guy with "I am Darren Wilson" taped onto the back of his Cardinals jersey — a hand-scribbled homage to the Ferguson police officer who shot the unarmed teen — the real question might not be how far the Cardinals go, but how wide this issue has divided the St. Louis area.

J.P. Howell's incredible between-the-legs catch starts inning-ending 1-2-3 double (VIDEO)

The Dodgers were down two runs and the bases full of Cardinals when J.P. Howell made this incredible play in the eighth inning of Game 3 of the NLDS Monday night.

After giving up a Jon Jay single to load the bases, Kolten Wong lasered one back to the mound. The left-handed pitcher somehow managed to field the ball between his legs to start the inning-ending 1-2-3 double play.

Howell's spectacular play was for naught as the Cards held on to win, 3-1.

Cameraman makes outstanding one-handed catch while behind the lens (VIDEO)

Cameraman get to see lots of games from behind the television monitor but rarely do they become part of the action.

During Sunday's Padres-Cardinals game, this intrepid cameraman snagged Peter Bourjos' foul ball with one bare hand while keeping focused on the other task at hand — namely catching the baseball game through his lens.

Not only did the Busch Stadium camera guy make the nifty grab — stinging his hand in the process — he shielded a fellow techie from getting hit.

Oh yeah. Super Cameraman even gave the ball to a lucky kid.

Cardinals induct Shelby Miller into bullpen with 'trust fall' (VIDEO)

The Cardinals moved Shelby Miller to the bullpen this weekend, and before Sunday's game against the Dodgers, the St. Louis relievers officially inducted the right-hander into their group by putting him through the "Fall of Trust."

Trust falls don't always go so well, and Miller's fall got started with a four-foot drop to boot. Luckily, this one seemed to end up all right.

No doubt the new member of the bullpen would have preferred the old tried-and-true hot-foot for his indoctrination.

A Cardinals fan unintentionally drops his full beer from a balcony and gives a couple of unsuspecting women below a frothy King of Beers shower during Saturday's game.

The good news. He's at Busch Stadium so there's plenty more brew where that came from.

Swarms of moths invade Busch Stadium (VIDEO)

Cleveland is famous for its midges, just about about every city has its bees but now St. Louis has their own version of a bugout — moths.

Gigantic swarms of the flying pests descended upon the Phillies and Cardinals game Friday night following a 50-minute rain delay as dusk turned to night.

Here's how the St. Louis Post-Dispatch described the invasion:

After about a six-inning grace period following a 50-minute weather delay, swarms of plague-like proportions filled Busch Stadium. They flew in a frenzy around the nosebleed lights, swapped sweat with Phillies starter A.J. Burnett and — although this may have been the result of another woeful Cardinals performance at the plate — sent fans scampering from their seats.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina said moths were getting into his mask.

“It was as bad as I’ve ever had to play with with moths. It was bad.”

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard said he was more affected in the field than at the plate.

“On a ground ball,” he said, “you've just got to hope one doesn’t get you in the face.”

No wonder they showed up. The Phillies continue to keep their bats out of mothballs and beat the Cards, 5-1, for their fifth straight victory

Derek Jeter gets curtain call and he didn't even play (PHOTO)

In what happened to be a first, even for Derek Jeter, the Yankees captain got a curtain call from the crowd — although though he didn't play.

Jeter was stretching his idle muscles in the clubhouse at the end of the sixth inning when he noticed the in-house feed of the Busch Stadium scoreboard, which was showing a highlight reel of his career, complete with interviews from Cardinals players.

The video was almost over by the time Jeter reached the dugout, but the camera focused on him, bringing the sellout crowd to its feet for a standing ovation. Jeter waved from inside the dugout, but the crowd didn’t stop prompting Jeets to come out and tip his hat and also point at the Cardinals players standing by the rail in the first base dugout.

“The fans all three games — well, the two that I played — every time I came up, they were pretty much standing,” Jeter said. “We were winning, so I thought it was appropriate.”

Derek Jeter paused for a moment after he was asked whether he'd ever taken a curtain call during a game he didn't play.

"No," he finally said. "No, I don't think so. I've been serenaded with some things when I wasn't playing a game. But, no, not a good thing."

After the seventh inning applause rose to a crescendo, a bashful-looking Jeter climbed the dugout steps, waved to the crowd and then to the Cardinals' dugout, where several players were also standing and clapping for him.

"I had no idea what happened," Jeter said. "But, like I said, the fans have been great here in St. Louis and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to come back."

Derek Jeter knows just how much rarer one of his game balls become with each passing inning and it has sort of become up to him to make sure some of the prized souvenirs don't fall into the wrong hands.

The Yankees' captain shooed away a few greedy grown-ups so he could roll a baseball to a boy behind the dugout during Tuesday's game against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The thrilled kid in a Yankees T-shirt immediately goes nuts, excitedly hoisting it into the air during a moment he'll never forget.

Even a little Cardinals fan gives his Yankees counterpart a high-five for the nice score.

And it's not the first time Jeets waved off some grubby-handed adults to gain a lifelong fan. Last month he made sure this little girl got the ball.

Michael Wacha has bruised elbow after being hit by foul ball in dugout (VIDEO)

The baseballs seemed to have Michael Wacha in their sights all night Wednesday against the Diamondbacks — whether the Cardinals starter was on the mound or in the presumed safety of the dugout.

In the sixth-inning, Wacha couldn't dodge a Matt Adams foul ball that was drilled into the Cardinals dugout,  ricocheted off the wall and hit the right-hander in his pitching arm.

Wacha wouldn't come back out for the seventh, despite having thrown six shutout innings and only 88 pitches. The Cardinals announced that Wacha suffered a bruised right elbow on the freak play. 

Earlier in the game, Wacha made an outstanding heads-up play on a scorching liner off the bat of Diamondbacks third baseman Martin Prado:




"It hit a nerve, and the whole hand went numb. It was a pretty scary feeling, that's for sure," the right-hander said about his elbow. "I'm sure I'll have a little bruise there tomorrow."

The severity of the bruise hasn't yet been reported by the Cardinals.

A.J. Pollock makes sensational wall-crashing, bobble catch (VIDEO)

The Diamondbacks would pretty much like to forget about Tuesday night's 5-0 loss to the Cardinals, all except A.J. Pollock's bone crunching catch in centerfield.

Pollock chased down Yadier Molina's towering hit and crashed into the wall before bobbling the elusive ball and securing it in his mitt.

Even Cardinals fans gave the skilled fielder a round of applause after the stadium replay of the double-dipping catch.

And no, it only counts as one out.

Matt Holliday robs Chris Young of home run with leaping catch (VIDEO)

Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday robs the Mets' Chris Young of a home run with a perfectly timed leaping grab Tuesday night at Citi Field.

The 5th-inning catch helped the Cards go on to a 3-0 victory.

This is probably one Holiday that Young would rather not celebrate.

Matt Garza goes crazy-eyed after giving up home run (GIF)

Brewers pitcher Matt Garza launched into a moment of primal scream therapy after allowing a three-run home run against the Cardinals Monday night.

The Cardinals held a narrow 1-0 lead when Garza allowed the dinger — setting off the heavy breathing and crazy eyes.

The Cardinals went on to win 4-0.

Thank goodness he kept it  G-rated for the kids by covering his mouth with his glove.

Fan flips the bird to Cardinals' Matt Adams after winning battle for foul ball (VIDEO)

Players battle fans for foul balls in the stands every so often — usually without incident. So it was a little bizarre when the Cardinals Matt Adams and a Reds fan got into a little tiff Thursday night.

The Cardinals first baseman and the first-row Reds fan both had a right to Chris Heisey's foul pop during the third inning at Great American Ball Park but, ultimately, it was the fan made the grab despite Adams' all-out effort.

The first baseman wasn't too pleased and gave the fan a little shove to which the fan responded with a few choice words and the proverbial finger salute as Adams headed back to the infield.

That's known as flipping the bird in more than one sense.

"I was just trying to stop from falling in there," said Adams after the game. "They had some pretty good fans on that side. He caught that one and then the other guy caught the hot shot behind the dugout."

"I heard the whole section was flipping me off," he added. " But I can't let that bother me."

Asked about the incident postgame, manager Mike Matheny said he was unaware of any incidental contact.

"Pushed the fan? He was going after the ball," Matheny said. "He was going into the stands. [He] probably [pushed] trying to keep from going tail over tea kettle into the first row. You don't want to be going into the stands. You have to do what you have to do."

FYI regarding fan interference, Rule 3.16 in the Major League Baseball rulebook states:

No interference shall be allowed when a fielder reaches over a fence, railing, rope or into a stand to catch a ball. He does so at his own risk. However, should a spectator reach out on the playing field side of such fence, railing or rope, and plainly prevent the fielder from catching the ball, then the batsman should be called out for the spectators interference.

Apparently Adams did so at his own risk, but didn't deserve the fan's single-finger gesture.

Cardinals rookie Kolten Wong gets trashed after team clinches NL Central title

While the St. Louis Cardinals players celebrated the team's first NL Central title since 2009, rookie Kolten Wong got a little trashed — albeit not in that sense of the word.

Wong's teammates decided to stuff the diminutive second baseman into a garbage can all in the name of fun.

Beer-guzzling Mets fan tumbles over Citi Field seats

During the eighth inning of the Mets-Cardinals game at Citi Field, cameras caught a fan in the background slip and tumble over two rows of seats as Cardinals reliever Trevor Rosenthal prepared to deliver a pitch.

The fan appears to be okay, and luckily there were no other fans sitting in front of him, or it could have been uglier. It looks like the three men with the falling fan remain oblivious to their fallen buddy and seem to be in no rush to help.

To add insult to the loss of an $8 brewski, the Mets eventually lost the game, 2-1, resulting in Matt Harvey's first loss of the season.
