A tip of the cap is one of the highest accolades a player can give or receive on the baseball field. But when it comes from an opponent you just robbed of an extra base hit, it's really special.

In the top of the seventh inning of Thursday's Twins-Royals game, Oswaldo Arcia hit a deep drive to centerfield that would surely have resulted in extra bases. Only problem was that Lorenzo Cain was prowling the Kauffman Stadium turf and made a spectacular wall-crashing catch. So instead of standing on second or third base, Arcia could only tip his helmet out of respect as he walked back to the dugout.

You might want to call the whole sequence of events cap-tivating.

Ezequiel Carrera's diving catch Monday night is already being called the best defensive play of the 2014 season. 

The Tigers centerfielder robbed a bases-loaded double — possibly a bases-clearing triple — from Yankees' Jacoby Ellsbury in the third inning at Yankee Stadium and had everyone from pitcher Matt Scherzer to the hot dog guy dropping their jaws in amazement.

And, if you don't believe Carrera's leaping catch was spectacular, it even had Derek Jeter (who has seen everything during his 20-year career) shaking his head and saying wow:

Charlie Blackmon's outstanding leaping catch extends game (VIDEO)

Charlie Blackmon made a tremendous game-saving catch to rob Welington Castillo of a sure base hit Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.

The incredible 10th inning play not only extended the game and knocked the wind out of the Rockies rightfielder but it had the breathless Cubs fans actually stand up in appreciation of the outstanding play.

The game lingered on for another six innings before the Cubs overcame a three run deficit and beat the Rockies, 4-3, in the wee hours of the morning.

A.J. Pollock makes sensational wall-crashing, bobble catch (VIDEO)

The Diamondbacks would pretty much like to forget about Tuesday night's 5-0 loss to the Cardinals, all except A.J. Pollock's bone crunching catch in centerfield.

Pollock chased down Yadier Molina's towering hit and crashed into the wall before bobbling the elusive ball and securing it in his mitt.

Even Cardinals fans gave the skilled fielder a round of applause after the stadium replay of the double-dipping catch.

And no, it only counts as one out.

Justin Smoak's incredible 9th-inning snag saves game for Mariners (VIDEO)

Infield catches don't come any better — or timelier — than Justin Smoak's incredible diving 9th-inning play Friday night.

The Mariners first baseman — playing well off the bag with the bases loaded — goes airborne to snag Adian Beltre's screaming liner and then step on first base to turn a unassisted, game-ending double play and save a 6-5 lead against the Rangers.

I guess you could say Beltre got Smoaked on the play.

Royals' Alex Gordon makes spectacular wall-crashing catch (VIDEO)

Kansas City Royals leftfielder Alex Gordon crashed hard into the outfield wall at Kauffman Stadium while making a remarkable catch of an A's foul ball Tuesday night.

At first, the Gold Glove outfielder's condition looked pretty grim after Gordon hit the wall head-on and rolled onto the turf in obvious pain — but not before completing the remarkable play.

Fortunately, Gordon was able to lift himself off the ground and trot into the dugout serenaded by a chorus of cheers.
