Fan loses beer head, but saves his own dodging foul ball (VIDEO)

An alert fan at Marlins Park was doubly lucky after a screaming foul ball off the bat of Casey McGehee took the head off of his beer — but not the top of his scalp — in mighty a close call Sunday.

With brewski in hand while watching McGehee's at-bat in the bottom of the fourth inning from an alley between two sections of the grandstand, the fan was nearly decapitated when the ball ricocheted past his head, missing it by less than a foot.

But he still had most of the beer left.

Fast reflexes and quick with a smile — that's a good combination.

A New York Yankees ball boy may soon find himself a little richer after he pocketed a foul ball hit by Derek Jeter during The Captain's final home game at Yankee Stadium.

After cleanly fielding the grounder, the young man held it in his glove, and then reached into his back pocket pulling out another ball and handing it off to a fan in the stands.

It is uncertain if he pulled the switcheroo to keep the prized ball for himself, or if the Yankees asked employees to hold on to the balls for the sake of keeping any last night memorabilia in the House That Ruth Jeter Built.

Some are saying the ball could fetch as much as $10,000 and the sketchy move might have even increased the value of the ball.

The enterprising ball boy had clearly planned ahead. As soon as he cleanly fielded Jeter's shot, he reached into a back pocket and pulled out a different ball, which he handed off to an unsuspecting fan.

While the ball boy or girl is expected to toss all foul balls into the crowd for the fans, there is apparently no official rule that says they cannot keep the ball.

After Raul Ibanez hit a foul ball into a section of the upper deck Tuesday night, dozens of fans gathered in search of the souvenir to no avail.

The barren nether regions of Progressive Field were suddenly littered with zombie-like Indians fans who couldn't locate the lost ball before they all finally give up.

It looks like Ibanez's wayward ball has fallen prey to baseball's version of the Bermuda Triangle and is now the stuff of legend.

Oblivious fan nearly struck in face by line-drive foul ball (VIDEO)

During Tuesday night's Orioles-Rays game, Steve Pearce ripped a pitch foul into the seats that just misses hitting an oblivious fan along the third-base line at Tropicana Field.

As you can see in the video, the gabbing guy in the white shirt was just inches from getting a free facial — and possibly killed.

There something to be said when a gorilla in the stands is the voice of reason and seems to tell the lucky guy, "Pay attention!"

While this Yankees fan is probably thrilled that Mark Teixeira is looking more like the slugger of old, it seems like she really wanted that home-run ball Tex launched into the stands during Saturday's 9-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

At least she didn't throw in the towel.

Fan flips the bird to Cardinals' Matt Adams after winning battle for foul ball (VIDEO)

Players battle fans for foul balls in the stands every so often — usually without incident. So it was a little bizarre when the Cardinals Matt Adams and a Reds fan got into a little tiff Thursday night.

The Cardinals first baseman and the first-row Reds fan both had a right to Chris Heisey's foul pop during the third inning at Great American Ball Park but, ultimately, it was the fan made the grab despite Adams' all-out effort.

The first baseman wasn't too pleased and gave the fan a little shove to which the fan responded with a few choice words and the proverbial finger salute as Adams headed back to the infield.

That's known as flipping the bird in more than one sense.

"I was just trying to stop from falling in there," said Adams after the game. "They had some pretty good fans on that side. He caught that one and then the other guy caught the hot shot behind the dugout."

"I heard the whole section was flipping me off," he added. " But I can't let that bother me."

Asked about the incident postgame, manager Mike Matheny said he was unaware of any incidental contact.

"Pushed the fan? He was going after the ball," Matheny said. "He was going into the stands. [He] probably [pushed] trying to keep from going tail over tea kettle into the first row. You don't want to be going into the stands. You have to do what you have to do."

FYI regarding fan interference, Rule 3.16 in the Major League Baseball rulebook states:

No interference shall be allowed when a fielder reaches over a fence, railing, rope or into a stand to catch a ball. He does so at his own risk. However, should a spectator reach out on the playing field side of such fence, railing or rope, and plainly prevent the fielder from catching the ball, then the batsman should be called out for the spectators interference.

Apparently Adams did so at his own risk, but didn't deserve the fan's single-finger gesture.
