Utah golfer stabs man on golf course because of slow play

A Utah golfer frustrated by the slow play of a party in front decided to take matters into his own hands by using a knife to cut through the offending duffers.

After Lee Johnson and his wife asked if they could play through the slow putters in front and were refused, 61-year-old Johnson pulled out his trusty No. 3 penknife and reportedly sliced his way through — and not in a golfing sense.

A fight then broke out on the fairway before security from the clubhouse had to come and calm things down.

Payson Police Lieutenant Bill Wright told KUTV that Johnson, from Payson near Salt Lake City, was then wrestled to the ground by one of the men in the group. 

Johnson was charged with aggravated assault. His wife was not involved in the fracas and wasn’t charged or arrested. 

The victim was treated at a local hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The greens at a New Jersey public golf course weren't the only things groomed nice and neat when a charity event sponsored by a local gentlemen's club turned the flag posts into stripper's poles.

New Jersey officials are vowing to crack down on the late July golf event that turned a tax-payer funded course into a strip club, reported NBC's I-team in New York.

The charity event at Preakness Valley Golf Course in Wayne, New Jersey, was billed as a day of golf with donations going to benefit a variety of causes — including the Orlando shooting victims and slain police officers in Dallas. The sponsor — who runs Sunrise Gentlemen’s Club — even offered cops and firefighters a discount on the $195 fee, according to NBC.

But residents and public officials were shocked to see drinks flowing and scantily clad women giving out lap dances.

NBC’s cameras caught one woman — skirt hiked to her waist, shirt pulled down to expose her chest — cavorting around a flag stick as golfers tried to focus on the game.

Hidden cameras also caught lap dances on male golfers as they rode in their carts — with plenty of drinks to go round.

In another video segment, a golfer tries to pull a golf ball out of the cleavage of one of the Sunrise dancers with his mouth — and the same dancer can later be seen touching a participant intimately.

Neighbors told NBC’s I-Team they were disgusted by the lewd display.

“I’m at a loss for words. It’s shameful. Kids are going by. Families are going by. This is on public property,” said one nearby resident.

"We’re going to look at the policies and procedures that are in place," said Passaic County Administrator Anthony De Nova, after viewing undercover I-Team video that captured nudity and raunchy behavior at the Wayne course. “My understanding is that this isn’t the first time that this tournament took place here. But I can say it’s going to be the last time.”

The owner of the Sunrise Gentlemen’s Club in Paterson — closed briefly last year after a prostitution bust — declined to speak to NBC about the event.

In December Spiranac failed miserably in her professional debut, missing the cut in Dubai and finishing 101st in a 107-player field.

That prompted her to say that she would be taking a break from social media — but Spiranac couldn't resist the lure of Twitter.

And we'll never watch women's golf the same way again.

Jersey golf fans take over PGA Championship course during rain storm (VIDEO)

After the PGA Championship was suspended Saturday afternoon because of rain, and then was called, New Jersey fans did their best to turn the course at Baltusrol into their own private water park.

The Star-Ledger reported:

When play was suspended at 6:35 p.m., marshals headed for cover and no one knew what to do or where to go. [Leader Phil] Mickelson started to walk off the 14th green in the direction of the clubhouse.

Davis Love III, his playing partner, had to steer him in another direction.

"Phil, " he said. "Over here."

He slid under the ropes and walked across the fifth fairway.

Dozens of fans followed him, right across the course, slapping him on the back and tugging his shirt. He hopped into a maroon Buick minivan. Someone yelled, "Can we have a ride, Phil?"

Fans trampled up the 17th fairway, without a marshal in sight to shepherd them off. They practiced imaginary shots and walked through the sand traps.

Retief Goosen and Jason Bohn had marked their balls on the fairway.

"Who knows if someone picked one up," said Rupert Dooley, a marshal from the fourth hole who tried - unsuccessfully - to steer the crowds away. "Idiots."

Weather delays are unavoidable and lightning cells forced PGA officials to sound the warning horns at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, but they could have taken more precautions for the last group of golfers set to tee off.

More rain is expected Sunday. So officials might want to offer some sort of directions to keep rambunctious fans occupied — like make a right off I-78 onto the Turnpike and take Exit 7A to Great Adventure.

Golfer stung to death by bees while searching for ball on Michigan course

An Ohio man playing golf with a friend at a northern Michigan resort died after being attacked by a swarm of bees when he went to search for his ball in the woods, police said on Thursday.

Darryl Dever died on Wednesday after being stung more than 20 times on the head, neck and shoulders at Treetops Resort in Dover Township, Michigan State Police Sergeant Mark Tamlyn said.

The 64-year-old Dever had gone searching for his ball near the second hole when the bees emerged from a hive in the ground. Although Dever had no known allergies to bees, the intensity of so many quick stings proved too much.

The golfer was having trouble breathing after being stung and died shortly afterward, said Tamlyn.

The resort is about 200 miles north of Detroit.

Dever was a noted Statehouse lobbyist in Ohio and friends paid tribute to him.

“I lost a friend and a mentor,” Adam Hewit told The Columbus Dispatch.

“One of the things I always said about Darryl is anybody who can last this long in the business is a true professional.

"He’ll be missed not only in his work, but in friendships and his humor."

President Obama claims Derek Jeter hustled him on golf course

Everyone knows how much President Obama loves his golf — and that includes Derek Jeter.

The five-time World Series champion, who was known for his extraordinary hustle on the diamond, apparently brought that same killer instinct to a golf course in Nevada last November when he met the leader of the free world for a friendly round of golf.

Only it wasn't that friendly, if you believe the Prez.

Obama recently discussed his matchup against Jeter, according to Politico's Edward-Isaac Dovere, and it's clear Obama believes he was hustled by Jeter.

The president detailed the events at a Democratic fundraiser Monday night, hosted by Las Vegas Sun owner Brian Greenspun:

"He and Derek Jeter stole money from me at Shadow Creek," Obama said of Greenspun, referring to the course in North Las Vegas. "It was clearly a setup, because when we got to the practice range, he was shanking balls everywhere. I said, 'You play golf Derek?' And he said, 'I just started two weeks ago.'"

They gave Jeter 30 strokes, Obama said, but he realized that was a mistake as soon as they were on the first hole. Jeter crushed him, he said.

Obama could have chalked it up to Jeter's superior athletic skills, but chose to go with the more interesting theory he was taken.

"We had to take a picture of me handing Derek Jeter money at the end of the game. Despite that, Brian is a great friend."

But really. Who gives anyone 30 strokes? Or maybe Obama thought he was playing Iran.

Angry John Daly throws club into Lake Michigan, retrieved by young fan (VIDEO)

There was another classic John Daly moment at the PGA Championship on Friday — and this one was a doozy.

Playing the par-3 seventh hole, Daly sliced his tee shot right, plunking it into nearby Lake Michigan. He took a drop and once again, found the lake. He dropped another, and splashed that one, too.

Finally, Daly bailed out to the left side of the green, before angrily flipping his iron into the lake and finishing with a 10.

Not to fret. The wayward club was soon recovered by a young man in a boat, who held it aloft triumphantly.

Golfer’s wayward tee shot obliterates poor seagull (VIDEO)

A poor seagull came to an untimely demise after the bird was hit with a ball driven by a golfer on a wayward tee shot.

Footage shows the bird landing on the fairway moments before the inadvertent line-drive shot turned the poor bird into a poof of white feathers.

The clip below, posted to YouTube by user Jordan Wright, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, already has over 1 million views. 

You can see that the golfer had no intention of hitting the seagull but, instead of sending the ball into the air, he shot it straight along the ground at the unsuspecting bird who didn't have any time to react. 

The golfer reacts by recoiling and turning his head away in horror before backing off towards the cameraman.

And as a show of respect, no birdie jokes please.

As if the rough terrain at Chambers Bay wasn't enough, Fox Sports has found some new ways to annoy golfers during the 2015 U.S. Open by implementing drones into their coverage. And not just the flying kind. They’ve invaded the course with rolling ground drones, too.

And Phil Mickelson took action against the creeping intruders.

On Friday, Mickelson — who's been hovering at the bottom of the leaderboard himself — decided to have some fun with a ground camera. Walking down the fairway, he chased after one and gave it a friendly kick.

Henrik Stenson takes a jab at Tiger Woods after first round

Henrik Stenson fired a first round 65 and currently holds a share of the lead at 5-under along with Dustin Johnson at the U.S. Open.

He also fired off a little sass.

Stenson, when asked about Chambers Bay's craggy landscape and long fairways, noted that it's a difficult trek over the 18 holes.

"It's a challenging walk. There will be some tired glutes by the end of the week," he quipped — obviously referencing Tiger Woods’ famous line after withdrawing from the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines when he said he just couldn't get his glutes to activate.

Johnny Manziel throws water bottle at heckling fan, misses target: Report

Johnny Manziel continued where he left off last season after he tossed a water bottle at a heckler during an incident at the AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament this weekend — and missed. 

The troubled Cleveland Browns quarterback's throw sailed by its intended target but police were summoned to the scene anyway. No charges were filed, reported Cleveland.com.

Manziel reportedly had been turning away autograph requests from the fan for about two hours Saturday during the third round when an exchange escalated in the pool area of the Four Seasons Resort where the PGA Tour event is held, Irving police spokesman James McLellan said.

The water bottled missed the 18-year-old man, and someone who was with Manziel pushed the fan, leading officers to intervene, McLellan said. The fan declined to press charges, and McLellan said no police report was filed.

After the skirmish, Manziel was photographed by several bystanders talking to the police outside the Four Seasons hotel, where the incident took place — a bucket of beer sitting nearby.

Police did not detect that Manziel had been drinking at the time of the incident.

Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M, was recently released from a 10-week stay in rehab and is going through offseason workouts with the Browns. 

A stint with anger management could be next.

After his tee shot on 15 didn't go the way he wanted, cameras overheard Woods calling himself a "dumbass."

Jason Day takes down drone shooting Adidas ad (VIDEO)

Jason Day just might have a thing against those tiny rotor-powered nuisances in the sky known as drones.

The PGA golfer was shooting promo videos involving Adidas' Boost golf shoes when he inadvertently became the new poster boy for the anti-drone movement.

The plan was simple — tie a piece of Boost cushion material to a drone, fly it into the air, and have Day hit the material with a nine-iron shot.

Tiger Woods surprises Lindsey Vonn at finish line with missing tooth (PHOTO)

Tiger Woods was sporting a toothy smile when he surprised Lindsey Vonn following her winning run in Cortina D'Ampezzo — a record-breaking 63rd World Cup victory on Sunday.

Too bad that full set of choppers belonged to a skeleton-covered scarf he was wearing during the competition and his own set of pearly whites was short a tooth.

After Vonn's winning run, Woods, who was supposed to be practicing for his return to competition at the Phoenix Open, surprised Vonn by showing up at the finish area and revealing a noticeable gap in his mouth when he removed the spooky-looking scarf.

Vonn, who had no idea that the world's former No. 1 golfer was coming to Northern Italy, shared an emotional embrace with a harder looking Woods after he forced his way through the crowd unnoticed.

"No way!' Vonn exclaimed when she spotted him.

Earlier photographs show that Woods' tooth was discolored, raising the possibility that he is having it replaced.

Vonn tied the record of 62 victories when she won a downhill here Sunday.

"I'm so happy to have finished the weekend with win No. 63. My family and Tiger is here. It's a really, really special day," she said.

Woods' reps had no comment about the missing Tiger's tooth.

Caroline Wozniacki can sure whack a golf ball (VIDEO)

Caroline Wozniacki has apparently moved on from that breakup with golfer Rory McIlroy. And, if she got anything out of the heartache, it might be a new passion for the links.

The tennis star recently hit a driving range and posted this video of her swing to her Instagram account.

That 200 yards might be more like 200 feet, but it's still a pretty decent drive.

Rory McIlroy laughs off PA system playing ‘Sweet Caroline’ during interview (VIDEO)

Rory McIlroy was doing an interview with BBC during halftime of a rugby match when the PA system suddenly began playing Neil Diamond’s 'Sweet Caroline.' Not a big deal until you realize it was a not-so-subtle reference to McIlroy's ex-fiancee, Caroline Wozniacki — whom he unceremoniously dumped in May.

During halftime of the Ulster-Connacht match, the golfer was talking about his Christmas when he realized the crowd was facetiously singing along to the song, prompting him to laugh, lower his head and say, “oh, dear.”

Now he's ready for those Red Sox games at Fenway.

Tiger Woods opening restaurant in Florida next year: Report

Tiger Woods is familiar around courses, but how is the golfer at serving them on a dinner plate? 

We're about to find out if Woods can distinguish a sand wedge from a well ... cheese wedge after he announced Tuesday he is opening a Florida restaurant called The Woods Jupiter: Sports and Dining Club next year.

The name alone is a mouthful. So, just a guess, Mulligan's was already taken.

A statement issued by developer Allied Capital and Development of South Florida says the property is still in the works, but is expected to be a 5,900-square-foot restaurant. It's likely to open in early 2015.

Woods said in the statement that he envisions "a place where people can meet friends, watch sports on TV and enjoy a great meal."

"I wanted to build it locally where I live and where it could help support the community," Woods added. 

The restaurant will be located in Jupiter at a new shopping center development called Harbourside, which is set to fully open in October.

The $150 million development will feature an amphitheater, marina, restaurants and shops. Woods claims he's had his eyes on the property for two years.

"I couldn’t be more excited to have Tiger’s new establishment operating within Harbourside Place," Developer Nick Mastroianni told the Palm Beach Post. "It’s gratifying to see the final stages met with support from local, national and international organizations such as Mr. Woods."

The menu isn't prepared yet but, I'm guessing there won't be an Elin Nordegren's Club Sandwich.

Rickie Fowler shaves 'USA' into hair for Ryder Cup (PHOTO)

Rickie Fowler has decided to show his support for America in the 2014 Ryder Cup by shaving the letters 'USA' into his hair.

The 25-year-old golfer, who is making his second appearance in the competition, proudly showed off his new haircut during practice. He took off his cap to reveal 'USA' shaved into the hair behind his right ear, before pointing out the simple message to photographers.

The California native arrived at Edinburgh Airport with the U.S. team — but not before tweeting to fans he already made the cut.
