Chris Christie holds onto nachos while Cubs fan loses his nuts in stadium confrontation

By Tony Mangia

It doesn't really matter if you consider Chris Christie a bully, a blowhard, a traitor, a fathead or — worst of all — a Cowboys fan, you have to admit that, unlike the oozing cheese on a warm tray of nachos, the round mound of New Jersey doesn't melt when the chips are down.

On Sunday the unpopular governor showed that double-wide side when he got in the face of a Chicago Cubs fan during a game in Milwaukee — all while never releasing his precious grip on a bowl of the gooey snack he was carrying.

The nachos-toting Christie was walking down the aisle at Miller Park when a Cubs fan who had nothing better to do than razz the rotund Christie by yelling out at the not-so-hard-to-miss politician.

And his comments had nothing to do with down in front, side, rear or section 215!

So, in his typical brash Jersey style, an intense stare-off between the blustery Guv and suddenly not-so-big-mouthed fan was on.

“When he initially was going up the stairs I yelled his name,” Cubs jersey-wearing fan Brad Joseph told WISN-TV in Milwaukee.

“He was quite a bit past me, and 30 feet away I yelled his name and told him that he sucked . . . I called him a hypocrite because I thought it needed to be said.”

That's when, according to Joseph, Christie turned back toward him and got in his face while firmly clutching that tray of nachos with one hand.

“First he told me, ‘Why don’t you have another beer?’ which I thought was a decent come back, and I thought that was kind of funny,” he told the station. “Then he started calling me a tough guy.”

Christie, who was at the game visiting his son who works for the Brewers, was also heard on the video sarcastically telling the guy “You’re a big shot!”

While Joseph wilted like a soggy bag of fries on a Seaside Heights boardwalk, Christie kept his all-you-can-eat gaze on the now suddenly timid Cubbie before waddling away.

Whether suitable or not, politicians should be used to comments in all public areas but, in Christie's case, feedback seems to be off limits when the feedbag is on.

Giants and Jets Will Have Neutral End Zones This Weekend At MetLife Stadium

The New York Giants and New York Jets both play games in the Meadowlands this weekend and the scheduling congestion has created a problem regarding which team logo should be painted in the end zones.

The Giants kick off early Sunday afternoon while the Jets have a Saturday night game which will force MetLife Stadium to have neutral end zones with no team names for both games for the first time ever.

Although the Meadowlands facility has had quick turnarounds on events before, this one is uniquely challenging.

“We are always prepared to host two consecutive football games, whether college or NFL,” said Ron VanDeVeen, president and CEO of MetLife Stadium.

“However, due to the timing of Saturday’s 8:25 p.m. New York Jets game followed by Sunday’s 1 p.m. New York Giants game, coupled with the current weather forecast, the decision was made to use neutral end zones for this weekend’s contests. This decision will allow for appropriate maintenance of the playing surface throughout the weekend.”

For the Giants and Jets, who are the only NFL franchises sharing a stadium, the problem starts with both of them not even playing in New York. And for those of us who still call it "Giants Stadium," putting "New Jersey" on both end zones might be the permanent solution.

Jersey golf fans take over PGA Championship course during rain storm (VIDEO)

After the PGA Championship was suspended Saturday afternoon because of rain, and then was called, New Jersey fans did their best to turn the course at Baltusrol into their own private water park.

The Star-Ledger reported:

When play was suspended at 6:35 p.m., marshals headed for cover and no one knew what to do or where to go. [Leader Phil] Mickelson started to walk off the 14th green in the direction of the clubhouse.

Davis Love III, his playing partner, had to steer him in another direction.

"Phil, " he said. "Over here."

He slid under the ropes and walked across the fifth fairway.

Dozens of fans followed him, right across the course, slapping him on the back and tugging his shirt. He hopped into a maroon Buick minivan. Someone yelled, "Can we have a ride, Phil?"

Fans trampled up the 17th fairway, without a marshal in sight to shepherd them off. They practiced imaginary shots and walked through the sand traps.

Retief Goosen and Jason Bohn had marked their balls on the fairway.

"Who knows if someone picked one up," said Rupert Dooley, a marshal from the fourth hole who tried - unsuccessfully - to steer the crowds away. "Idiots."

Weather delays are unavoidable and lightning cells forced PGA officials to sound the warning horns at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, but they could have taken more precautions for the last group of golfers set to tee off.

More rain is expected Sunday. So officials might want to offer some sort of directions to keep rambunctious fans occupied — like make a right off I-78 onto the Turnpike and take Exit 7A to Great Adventure.

New Jersey left off cover of official NJ/NY Super Bowl XLVIII program

New Jersey is used to the late-night barbs about its Turnpike, swamps, smells and personalities from Tony Soprano to Chris Christie, but this slight might be the biggest insult of all. And Jerseyites are hotter than a Rutt's Hut ripper about it.

On Monday, after the NFL unveiled the program cover for Super Bowl XLVIII, to be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Feb. 2,  the cover image chosen by the NFL is... New York City.

Down the stretch of one of the state's most visible events ever, this omission comes as an indirect slap in the face to the area that will do a bulk of the heavy lifting — security, transportation and maybe snow removal.  Through it all, the blue collar Garden State still stands in the shadow of the glittery Manhattan skyline except, if you look closely at the cover, the tip of Jersey City sneaks into the shot.

New Jersey's Star-Ledger has launched a photoshop challenge to get proud New Jerseyans, to fix this abomination. You can download their template, fix the image and either upload it to them or tweet it using the hashtag #superjersey.

The publication will compile the best images into an upcoming video and present "appropriate Jersey-centric prize" to the creator of the best submission.

It's a small consolation to a "NJ/NY Super Bowl" co-operative that was one-sided all along— as in the other side of the Hudson River.
