One Direction singer falls down caddying for Rory McIlroy (VIDEO)

A whole new generation of tweens just discovered golf this week after Niall Horan of One Direction (just ask any 13-year-old girl) caddied for Rory McIlroy at the Par 3 Contest before the 2015 Masters on Wednesday.

And those same girls probably busted their thumbs tweeting about the pop star's tumble while getting ready for a live interview with reporter Kirsty Gallacher — which went viral.
Make your own snarky reference to a O.D. song because I don't know any.

Caroline Wozniacki can sure whack a golf ball (VIDEO)

Caroline Wozniacki has apparently moved on from that breakup with golfer Rory McIlroy. And, if she got anything out of the heartache, it might be a new passion for the links.

The tennis star recently hit a driving range and posted this video of her swing to her Instagram account.

That 200 yards might be more like 200 feet, but it's still a pretty decent drive.

Video, jonka Caroline Wozniacki (@carowozniacki) julkaisi

Just wondering if she pictured a certain someone's face on the ball.

Rory McIlroy laughs off PA system playing ‘Sweet Caroline’ during interview (VIDEO)

Rory McIlroy was doing an interview with BBC during halftime of a rugby match when the PA system suddenly began playing Neil Diamond’s 'Sweet Caroline.' Not a big deal until you realize it was a not-so-subtle reference to McIlroy's ex-fiancee, Caroline Wozniacki — whom he unceremoniously dumped in May.

During halftime of the Ulster-Connacht match, the golfer was talking about his Christmas when he realized the crowd was facetiously singing along to the song, prompting him to laugh, lower his head and say, “oh, dear.”

Now he's ready for those Red Sox games at Fenway.

Caroline Wozniacki dating Redskins' Ryan Kerrigan: Report

We all remember Caroline Wozniacki's heartbreak and embarrassment when golfer Rory McIlroy called off their wedding with the tennis star over the phone.

The Irish golfer moved on from Woz with a bevy of beauties but it's been a while since we've seen the tennis star hanging with anyone except her best bud Serena Williams.

Wozniacki said after the breakup that she could now try and date a “taller guy,” taking a jab at the relatively short McIlroy.

And that taller — and bigger — guy has turned out to be Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.

Here they are at a charity event:

Woz should help ease the hurt of Kerrigan's own pain — namely the Redskins' disastrous season.

Rory McIlroy saves trophy during PGA Championship presentation (VIDEO)

Just when you thought Sunday's PGA Championship couldn't add any more drama, winner Rory McIlroy goes and makes a cup-saving catch after a butterfingered presenter almost dropped the giant Wanamaker Trophy.

McIlroy held on to win his second major in a row after a foursome including the Irish golfer, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Bernd Wiesberger went putt-to-putt just as the sun was setting.

Lucky there was still enough light for McIlroy to make the one-handed grab.

Caroline Wozniacki takes 'short' jab at Rory McIlroy by wearing stilettos (PHOTO)

After being punched in the gut by by her ex-fiancee's surprise public breakup, Caroline Wozniacki has taken a short jab at Rory McIlroy — by wearing a pair of stiletto high heels.

The 5-foot-10 tennis player posted a picture of herself shopping with a friend in Istanbul where she is competing in the Istanbul Cup with the following words:

"Out and about in Istanbul. It's been three years since I have worn high heels on a normal day out. #feelsgood #looksgood #shopping #highheels #sun."

Wozniacki, who dated McIlroy for three years, is almost three inches taller than the 5-foot-8 Irish golfer.

She later deleted the post on Instagram.

McIlroy called off their engagement at a press conference in May, just days after sending out their wedding invitations.

The golfer is currently towering over the leader board at the British Open and was spotted in Dublin with model Nadia Forde earlier this month.

Needless to say, he probably isn't even paying attention.

Rory McIlroy publicly loses some excess baggage once again: Report

Rory McIlroy was looking for some lost baggage the other day — and he wasn't talking about his breakup with ex-fiancee Caroline Wozniacki.

The sixth-ranked golfer in the world flew out of Newark, headed for Dublin, after finishing in a 23rd-place tie at the U.S. Open and, to his dismay, discovered that his clubs had not arrived with him.

On Tuesday morning, he politely asked @United just where the clubs could be, given that he does “sort of need them this week” in the Irish Open.

United was quick to respond — and given the golfer's high profile — went the extra sky mile to accommodate McIlroy:

And apparently it worked:

Talk about preferential treatment.

McIlroy dumped Wozniacki because relationship was a distraction: Report

Golfer Rory McIlroy may have publicly told the world he was calling off his wedding to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki at an awkward press conference, but the fickle Irishman left a lot of questions about his sudden change of heart at the dais.

Now sources say McIlroy abruptly called things off with his Danish fiancee partly because his personal life was affecting his game, reports Page Six of the N.Y. Post.

"Rory’s game hasn’t been as consistently good in the time he’s been with Caroline," said the source. "He was a young guy in love and was flying around the world to see her play in tournaments or meet up with her. He was missing practice rounds. It was a distraction.

"When you have two players focused on being No. 1, it’s a huge commitment to see each other, physically and emotionally," added the source. "As tough as the decision to end the relationship might have been, it is wise to do it now rather than after they were married."

The source added that McIlroy’s personal life was further complicated by his legal battle with his former management company, a dispute that has been hanging over him for much of the season.

Another source said of McIlroy’s performance in the Players Championship earlier this month, "He is one of the most talented golfers out there, but his game was erratic."

The glamorous sports couple had been dating since 2011. They were engaged on New Year’s Eve. McIlroy said on Wednesday that he had broken up with her days after wedding invitations had gone out.

"The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails,” McIlroy said. He later said the decision was “mutual…it was the best for both of us."

A tennis source said the timing of their split was tough for Wozniacki since she is competing in the French Open, which starts in Paris on Sunday.

Reps for McIlroy and Wozniacki could not be reached for comment.

Spurned Wozniacki takes jab at Man U fan McIlroy via Twitter

Spurned Caroline Wozniacki took a Twitter dig at Manchester United supporter and former fiance Rory McIlroy after his "totally unexpected" wedding cancellation just days after the couple sent out wedding invitations.

The 23-year-old tennis star broke her silence over the split, taking to Twitter to thank her fans for their support.

But it seemed she could not resist a subtle dig at her ex-fiance, who famously follows Manchester United, when she wrote how she was happy to be a Liverpool fan.

She wrote: "It's a hard time for me right now. Thanks for all the sweet messages! Happy I support Liverpool right now because I know I'll never walk alone."

During the courtship phase of their relationship, Wozniacki had often engaged in online soccer exchanges  with McIlroy, once posting a photograph of a Liverpool shirt on her wall as she wrote: "Loving the look, Liverpool Jersey hanging on the wall above the man utd one."

She lovingly added she "might be in trouble" for posting the photo.

Her most recent tweet was meant to be anything but cute after McIlroy — who was playing golf with former Red Devils players Peter Schmeichel, Phil Neville and Teddy Sheringham in Wednesday's pro-am ahead of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth — dumped her in front of the world.

On Wednesday, just days after Wozniacki and McIlroy sent out wedding invitations, the golfer announced at a press conference that they had split because he was not ready for "all that marriage entails."

Now Wozniacki, who is currently ranked number 14 in the world, may not compete in the French Open tournament in Paris following the very public break up, due to a knee injury.

A source close to the tennis ace said she may now pull out of the tournament, which starts on Sunday, with the draw due to be made on Friday.

Rory McIlroy breaks off engagement to Caroline Wozniacki just days after sending out wedding invites: Report

It look like Rory McIlroy has lost more than his game these days, the Irish golfer has also lost his nerve.

McIlroy, looking visibly upset at a press conference ahead of an upcoming tournament, announced he had broken off his five-month engagement to tennis player Caroline Wozniacki just days after sending out wedding invitations.

The former world number-one ranked golfer said the high-profile split was "mutual and amicable" after confirming the relationship had ended because he realized he was not ready for marriage.

"There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people," he glumly said Wednesday.

This wouldn't be the first breakup for the pair, who got engaged on New Year's Day after more than two years together.

McIlroy called it off with Wozniacki in April last year — days after she posted a picture on Twitter showing him asleep and open-mouthed with his glasses on.

Friends of the pair said there was no way back and the tennis star was described as being "absolutely devastated."

In a brief statement issued through his Dublin-based communications consultants, McIlroy, said he was making the announcement publicly after talking to Wozniacki.

"The problem is mine," he said.

'The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails.

"I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we've had."

Following the announcement, the golfer looked distracted as he attended a press conference at the Wentworth course in Surrey ahead of his latest tournament.

He said he wanted to get his head into golf but admitted it would be difficult on the back of a very public break-up.

"Obviously (it's) quite a difficult time for Caroline and myself, and I think the statement really said it all this morning," he said.

"It was mutual and amicable and we both thought it was the best for us, the best for both of us. Time to move on and I think I've said all that I need to say."

Caroline Wozniacki's engagement ring is the size of a Titleist (PHOTO)

Caroline Wozniacki flew to Abu Dhabi on Sunday to watch her fiance Rory McIlroy finish second at the Abu Dhabi Championship. Wozniacki lost to Garbine Muguruza of Spain in the Australian Open which freed up her schedule to watch some golf.

McIlroy proposed over New Year's and by the looks of it, was thinking about golf balls when he picked out the diamond.

Good thing he wasn't concentrating on tennis.

McIlroy lost by one to Pablo Larrazabal after receiving a two-stroke penalty on Saturday evening.

But at least Wozniacki went home with a trophy.

British press rips Rory McIlroy for 'brain dead' comment

It's hard to believe any professional athlete woke up for Friday's morning coffee and wanted nothing more than to sic the dog on the paperboy more than Rory McIlroy when he saw the headlines.

Kate and William's royal bundle of joy can't come soon enough for the slumping Irishman.

The Fleet Street tabloids jumped all over the golfer's "brain dead" comments after a poor round at Muirfield and roasted McIlroy on the front pages in big, bold print.

After Thursday's dismal round of 79 at the British Open, McIlroy immediately took responsibility for his poor play that featured three three-putts, one putt off a green and into a bunker, two double bogeys, and countless exasperated looks. The world’s No. 2 player — winner of the PGA Championship last summer — must contend not for the Claret Jug, but for the right to play the weekend.

"I wish I could tell you what's wrong or what I need to do to make it right. I feel like I've got the shots. I know I'm capable of hitting them. It's a matter of being in the right place mentally to do it. It's nothing to do with technique. It's all mental."

Then he took it a step further:

"I just need to concentrate. But sometimes I feel like I'm walking around out there and I'm unconscious. I need to try to think more. I'm trying to focus and trying to concentrate. I can't really fathom it. It's a very alien feeling. It's something I've never felt before."

And finally he commented on his putt into a bunker on Thursday:

"It's so brain dead. Seriously, I feel like I've been walking around like that for the last couple of months. I'm trying to get out of it. It's something I've never experienced before."

The British tabloids are always going to sensationalize McIlroy like they did with their front pages today.

But even despite the bad ink, at least the 24-year-old remained honest about his current plight.

Could you imagine Tiger Woods handling it this way?

Rory McIlroy drives tennis ball into Yale Bowl tunnel

When you're the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world you get the opportunity to do a lot of things normal people don't get to do— or get caught doing.  Just ask Tiger Woods.

What was Rory McIlroy doing driving tennis balls through a tunnel at the Yale Bowl on Monday?  Who knows  but it probably had something to do with promoting the New Haven Open tennis tournament his girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki was competing in.

The winner of this year's PGA Championship took a couple of swings at the fuzzy yellow balls before finally getting one through the tunnel.

McIlroy was probably just trying to impress his Danish girl with the new challenge.

Wozniacki is the four-time defending champion at New Haven but I doubt she'll be whacking golf balls over a net anytime soon.

14-year old golfer poised to make US Open start

He may not be legally old enough to get behind the wheel of a car but 14-year old Andy Zhang will be driving golf balls down the fairways at the U.S. Open this weekend with some of the biggest golf stars in the world.

Zhang— who was born in China and brought over to the U.S. by his mother when he was 10— is poised to become the youngest golfer to play at the U.S. Open after the withdrawals of Brandt Snedeker and Paul Casey on Monday.

He narrowly missed a 33-foot eagle attempt on his last hole in regulation in US Open sectionals—losing to Florida State senior Brooks Koepka— and settled for alternate status.  No, Zhang will now be teeing them up with the best pros on the planet.

The young man adds another side-story to some of the others shaping up for this weekend's field at Olympic Club.

Besides Zhang's historic appearance, there is Tiger Woods coming off his big win at the  Memorial and the sudden demise of Rory McIlroy.

The previous youngest competitor in the post-war era was Tadd Fujikawa— who was 15 when he played in 2006 according to the US Golf Association.

Zhang— a native of Shangdong, China— started golfing when he was six-years old and brought to Florida by his mother after she quit her job to help young Zhang hone his special golfing skills.

It looks like the move paid off and — instead of trying to figure out girls or playing golf on a video screen like most other teenage boys— Zhang will be teeing up with Bubba Watson in a Tuesday practice round before making his 8:21 a.m. start alongside Hiroyuki Fujita and Mark Wilson on Thursday.
