Jerry Remy's son sporting 'newly acquired' neo-Nazi '88' tattoo during recent court appearance (PHOTO)

The son of Boston Red Sox legend Jerry Remy flashed what appeared to be a newly acquired neo-Nazi tattoo in court last week, as he pleaded guilty to the brutal murder of his girlfriend.

Jared Remy — the son of the former Red Sox second baseman and broadcaster — raised his cuffed right hand to his face during his Tuesday appearance, showing off a small, crudely inked '88' that was only later identified as a symbol of racist hate.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, 88 stands for "Heil Hitler" as H is the eighth letter in the alphabet, and is a long established marking of white supremacists.

'That's definitely a neo-Nazi tattoo,' SPLC senior fellow Mark Potok told the Boston Globe.

Such tattoos — scrawled in a style similar to that used by Germanic people before the Middle Ages — are common among white inmates in prisons across America, Potok told the newspaper.

Often times it signifies solidarity as much as bigotry, he added.

Remy may have joined the white supremacist group for protection inside the prison walls.

The tattoo may also help to explain an alleged attack of African-American inmate, Jemery Hodges, on April 3, using scalding water, a bar of soap, and a chair. 

"I did what I had to do. I got a child molester," Remy said after the incident, according to court records cited by the Globe. 

Hodges has pleaded guilty to transporting a minor to engage in commercial sex acts, and is awaiting trial on child pornography charges.

Remy's victim was Jennifer Martel. Her close friend and neighbor Kristina Hill told the Globe that the hand tattoo appeared to be new but said it didn't shock her because he'd spoken in the past about wanting to get a swastika tattoo.

Remy was immediately given the mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole when he confessed to the gruesome stabbing of Martel last August. 

Jerry Remy, a former Red Sox second baseman who has been a color analyst on team broadcasts on the New England Sports Network since 1988, was not in court for the hearing.

Jared Remy's trial is set for October.

Anyone who thought Derek Jeter was going to just settle back in his St. Petersburg mansion after his playing days are over might want to prepare themselves to start calling him The Boss.

The Yankees’ captain — who has repeatedly claimed he has no aspirations to manage — said he would like to be an owner one day.

“That’s the next goal, buddy,” Jeter said at his 18th annual Turn 2 Foundation dinner at the Sheraton in Midtown Sunday night. “Calling the shots, not answering to someone, that’s what interests me.

“I’d like to think I would be good one.”

If Jeter does become an owner, don’t expect him to emulate his mentor George Steinbrenner — who ripped his players in the media and fired managers at the drop of a hat.

“I’d probably be a little bit more behind the scenes than the Boss,” he said. “But I learned a lot of things from the Boss.”

When asked if he would be interested in owning the Yankees if the Steinbrenner family ever decided to put the team up for sale, he joked, “You got some money for me?”

Jeter said he has no interest in managing because of the travel and time it demands.

“I want no part of that,” he said with a smirk. “Then I got to answer your questions every day.”

Right now Jeter is concentrating on the final games of his remarkable career and says he has yet to reach out to any teams or owners — but plans to after the season ends.

He added that he has no interest in owning a team in any other sport but baseball.

USA forward Clint Dempsey  took center stage in USA’s warm-up game against Turkey at Red Bull Arena on Sunday.

The forward produced one of the best nutmegs you will ever see but unfortunately couldn’t get to the ball before the keeper came out to snag it.

Still, it's worth watching again.

The U.S. Men’s national team beat Turkey 2-1 in the World Cup tuneup match in New York and Dempsey did score the team’s second and winning goal later.

Flying bouncy slide with kids inside stops lacrosse game (VIDEO)

A game of lacrosse came to a flying halt as a bouncy slide got ripped from its stakes and rolled across a Colorado park with a child still inside.

A sudden of wind at Littleton’s Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Jamboree lifted the slide into the air and tossed a little girl off, but trapped a 10-year-old boy as it tumbled and bounced “like a bag in the wind,” according to Colorado’s KUSA-TV.

A video of Saturday’s accident captured by Aleah Horstman shows parents frantically chasing after the bouncy slide for nearly 300 feet at the Robert A. Easton Regional Park, not realizing that there was a boy inside.

The West Metro Fire Protection District told KUSA-TV the slide stopped at the edge of the playing field — just before it floated into the nearby Hine Lake.

The boy had only minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution and the girl was treated at the scene, reported the Post.

A representative for Airbound, the operator of the slide, told the TV station, but would not say what went wrong.

Derek Fisher will wait a few days before deciding future: Report

Derek Fisher is pretty sure his NBA playing days probably ended Saturday night after the Thunder were ousted from the playoffs. But now the doors have possibly opened for new career as head coach of the New York Knicks or Los Angeles Lakers. Again — possibly.

The 17-year NBA veteran, who lingered on the court after the Thunder loss, said he had too much respect for his teammates to talk about any coaching job, adding he’ll need a few days to make up his mind.

“I can’t go there tonight,’’ Fisher said in the Thunder locker room. “It’s too fresh of a wound. It’s possible this truly symbolizes the end of a very long career. I don’t think [with] the emotions I’m feeling now it’s smart to bet on what I’m going to do next. I’m definitely going to take it seriously and consider my options, consider what’s best and go from there. There’s a right way to wrap this season up and show it the proper respect.’’

Fisher has been projected as a coaching candidate with his former team in Los Angeles and with his former coach, Phil Jackson, in New York since the playoffs began.

The Lakers and Knicks could move forward with any plans to interview him now that the Thunder's season has ended. Fisher said he has not directly talked to Jackson or any other NBA executive. Jackson told New York media members last Friday that he had not spoken to Fisher.

“There are a number of people who will be impacted by the decision I do make,’’ Fisher said. 

“Whether I continue to play or do something else within the game, there’s a lot at stake.’’

After Steve Kerr turned down the Knicks' coaching job to go to the Golden State Warriors, one NBA source said the Knicks would likely stop its search until Fisher was available. The Lakers have already interviewed several coach candidates.

The Thunder still hope he comes back, possibly as a player/assistant coach, but that seems doubtful if a head coaching job is on the table.

Florida Gators pull off hidden ball trick in NCAA postseason game (VIDEO)

The Florida Gators perfectly executed the ol' hidden ball trick against the College Of Charleston on the opening day of NCAA regional play Friday.

Gators pitcher Logan Shore was pretending to tie his shoe in the first inning while shortstop Richie Martin secretly still had the ball in his glove.

As the Cougars' Nick Pappas stepped off second base, Martin quickly tagged him out.

Unfortunately, it did not help the No. 2 seeded Gators too much. Charleston upset them 3-2 in their own building, then Florida lost 5-2 to UNC on Saturday to send them packing.
