It's been a tough week for Michigan basketball beginning with that whole getting shocked at home by tiny New Jersey Institute of Technology last Saturday and all.

But after the Wolverines lost another close one to Eastern Michigan, 45-42, also at home in the Crisler Center, this young fan's stunned face kind of summed things up:



And that expressionless look may end up being contagious in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines' next game will be on Saturday against No. 3 Arizona.

Indiana basketball player cited for running over teammate with car: Report

An Indiana University basketball player was cited Saturday for misdemeanor underage drinking after he struck a teammate with his SUV, leaving the victim hospitalized with a serious head injury.

Emmitt Holt and his passengers claimed the bizarre incident occurred when they had dropped off Devin Davis, a 19-year-old sophomore, off at the Memorial Stadium parking lot about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, according to Bloomington police.

Holt, a top freshman recruit, was driving away “when, for unknown reasons, Davis came into the roadway and struck the side of the vehicle near the front passenger windshield,” said Sgt. Jeffery Canada.

Police found Davis unconscious with a head injury on the street that’s just off the IU campus. Holt’s Jeep Liberty had damage to its passenger side, front fender and windshield, Canada said.

Senior assistant athletic director J.D. Campbell said in a news release that Davis is in serious condition.

Holt was cited for misdemeanor illegal consumption of alcohol, and for being under age 21 and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content above 0.02, Canada said. The school's release said Holt's BAC was 0.025.

Canada did not know whether blood tests had been done on Davis to determine whether he had been drinking, and said the investigation is continuing.

Coach Tom Crean said in the school's statement that his "thoughts are with Devin and his family."

Tubby Smith falls off a motorcycle during Midnight Madness intro (VIDEO)

Texas Tech head coach Tubby Smith looked ready to rumble when he was introduced during Friday night's Midnight Madness event straddling a mean-looking motorcycle.

Too bad the Red Raiders coach was probably more prepared to tumble.

Dressed like Shaft from the old movie franchise, Smith rode onto the court atop the hog with Isaac Hayes' iconic theme song playing in the background. 

Then, at the end of the little putt across the court, coach toppled off his ride:

Thankfully, Smith wasn't hurt.

Florida Gators pull off hidden ball trick in NCAA postseason game (VIDEO)

The Florida Gators perfectly executed the ol' hidden ball trick against the College Of Charleston on the opening day of NCAA regional play Friday.

Gators pitcher Logan Shore was pretending to tie his shoe in the first inning while shortstop Richie Martin secretly still had the ball in his glove.

As the Cougars' Nick Pappas stepped off second base, Martin quickly tagged him out.

Unfortunately, it did not help the No. 2 seeded Gators too much. Charleston upset them 3-2 in their own building, then Florida lost 5-2 to UNC on Saturday to send them packing.

Penn State turns two triple plays in one game (VIDEO)

Triple plays don’t happen all that often. The major leagues average roughly four triple plays each season. So that's what makes this pair of triplets by the Penn State baseball team even more amazing.

During the first game of Friday's doubleheader against Michigan State, the Nittany Lions baseball team managed to turn two triple plays in the span of four innings. The first came in the fourth inning, the second in the eighth inning.

According to the Associated Press, it is the second time in NCAA Division I history that a team turned two triple plays in one game. Gonzaga did it against Washington State back in 2006.

While Penn State got the double-triple, Michigan State got the 4-2 win.

While riding along in a car, Navy baseball players Brad Borosak and Matt Kilby did a funny lip-sync rendition of “Love is an Open Door” from the hit movie Frozen. 

It’s a charming and perfectly-timed duet — becoming known as Brozen — that's has a surprise ending when a third teammate — that you never knew was in the car — pops up in the backseat.

Road trips just seem to bring out the song in people.

Burton, who stands about 6-feet-1, rises up and slams down the jaw-dropping dunk over the helpless Broncos player.

Nevada won 83-81 in overtime over Boise State Wednesday night.

Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart shoves Texas Tech fan during game (VIDEO)

Oklahoma State star Marcus Smart made a dumb move when he shoved a fan behind the basket in the waning seconds of Texas Tech's 65-61 win over the 19th-ranked Cowboys on Saturday night.

Smart tried to block Jaye Crockett's dunk attempt from behind with 6.2 seconds to go and tumbled into the front row of the crowd. He was helped to his feet by one man but then got in the face of the Tech fan in a black shirt.

The man appeared to say something to Smart, who then shoved him with two hands. The fan stumbled backward but didn't fall.

Teammates quickly pulled the angry Smart away from the fracas, and he pointed back in the direction of the fan. Smart was called for a technical foul but was not ejected.

A unanimous selection to the preseason All-America team, Smart could face discipline from the Big 12. Texas Tech spokesman Trenten Hilburn said John Underwood, the conference's associate commissioner for basketball, said the league would review the situation.

"I didn't see it yet. I want to make sure I see it and see what happened," Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford said after the game. "I'm still trying to figure it out."

Seton Hall swim team shows up at Pirates basketball game — in their Speedos (PHOTOS)

Here's one group of athletes who couldn't wait for that polar vortex cold snap to finally break — the Seton Hall swim team.

At the Pirates' Wednesday night basketball game against eighth-ranked Villanova, a group of swimmers stood behind the cheerleaders under one of the home court baskets wearing nothing but Speedos and running shoes.

The Seton Hall pool boys, fresh off training camp in Puerto Rico, headed to the Prudential Center in Newark hoping to see a win against the favored Wildcats. Their appearance did earn the college swimmers some airtime on ESPN2 and some awkward tweets from TV viewers, but it was not enough to distract the Wildcats from a win. The Pirates ended up getting dunked 83-67.

Other varsity teams often attend games at the Rock, but few stand out as much as the swimmers, who make the trip at least once a season.

Those weren't boos you heard at Madison Square Garden Thursday night during the Duke-UCLA game, they were calls for Bruuuuce — as in Bruce Springsteen.

The Boss himself was spotted sitting courtside rooting for the Blue Devils with his Duke undergrad daughter Jessica while the whole place was rocking.

The Yankees cap was a nice touch.

Ex-Rutgers basketball player Derrick Randall sues school for Mike Rice incident: Report

Derrick Randall, a former Rutgers basketball player who transferred to Pittsburgh this spring, is suing his former school relating to the incidents that ultimately led to basketball coach Mike Rice being fired.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court, according to a report by Courthouse News Services, and names the school, Rice, Rutgers president Robert Barchi, former athletic director Tim Pernetti, former assistant coach James Martelli, CFO Janine Purcaro, and chairman of the board of governors, Mark Hershhorn, are all named as defendants.

The complaint was filed Friday in Trenton, according to The Star-Ledger.

The lawsuit says that the incidents caused Randall to lose confidence in himself and affected his play. Rice was fired after videos surfaced of him throwing basketballs at players and hurling slurs at them as well.

Randall alleges that Rice "assaulted and battered him," according to the report and that the other defendants knew about it.

"Stuff still pops up about like Mike Rice stuff," Randall told The Star-Ledger last month, before knowledge of the lawsuit arose. "I just don't want that to ever happen to me again because it was the worst time of my life."

The complaint states, in part: "The outrageous, intimidating and abusive conduct to which Derrick was subjected included Coach Rice hurling basketballs at his head and legs and hitting, grabbing, striking and shoving him. Coach Rice verbally, mentally, and emotionally abused Derrick through violent screaming, cursing and other humiliation tactics, including the use of homophobic slurs and other shockingly derogatory and discriminatory name calling."

"It's an important and serious case," Daniel Kohba, Randall's lawyer told The Star-Ledger.

Randall is seeking damages and punitive damages in the suit.

On a day when the college basketball season opened with so many great dunks and plays, Fresno State decided to do their part to make the highlight reels.

The Bulldogs' Allen Huddleston buried a prayer from about 40 feet for the season opening victory. The final score: Fresno State 98, UC Irvine 97, in overtime. 

Can't get any more exciting —or high-scoring — than that.

The college basketball season kicked off Friday afternoon and if VMI forward Jordan Weethee's insane dunk at the All-Military Classic is any indication, it's going to be a good one. Go ahead Jordan, enjoy the camera time. You earned it.

The host VMI Keydets defeated The Citadel 82-71 in one of the first games of the season.

Ex-Rutgers coach Mike Rice talks about his mistakes: 'I've changed'

In his first television interview since the well-publicized scandal that cost him his job six months ago, former Rutgers University men's basketball coach Mike Rice said he has learned from his mistakes and is now a changed man.

"I won't be perfect moving forward, but I've changed," the once fiery Rice told "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts in an interview for ABC's "20/20." "Having that taken away, your dream job...and having it done in such a visible way...and hurting the people closest to me...it changes a person."

The 44-year-old Rice was fired by the New Jersey state college April 3 as a result of a quickly unfolding scandal that began when ESPN's "Outside the Lines" aired footage of the coach being abusive to his players. The images were shocking, showing Rice pushing players in the chest, grabbing them by their jerseys, yanking them around the court, even hurling balls at their heads and groin. Rice could be heard screaming obscenities and vulgar language at players, including "f---ing f----t" and "fairy."

Rice claims he looks back at his behavior and is appalled.

"My first reaction, when I saw the tape was one of embarrassment, of shock, of sadness," Rice told Roberts.

Some of the harshest criticism against Rice came because of his use of anti-gay slurs, already a touchy subject at Rutgers. In 2010, Rutgers freshman Tyler Clementi took his own life after he discovered his roommate had secretly used a webcam to watch his intimate encounter with another man in their dorm room.

Rice told Roberts that his use of homophobic language was "idiotic," because, he said, "I wasn't thinking that I was shouting at Tyler Clementi, or anybody else, who was a gay or a lesbian."

At the time, Rice said he believed he could change Rutgers' basketball program, but he admitted to Roberts that he wasn't ready.

"I thought it was necessary to get my team or that individual... to be tougher," said Rice.

Since the scandal, Rice said he has also apologized to his former players.

"You know, whether it was texting, whether it was calling, whether it was, handwritten letters, whether it's email, they don't deserve this and especially the first year's team," he said. "Even though we were out-manned every single night, they really, really fought hard for me…and they're almost embarrassed about that fact now. They're embarrassed about being a Rutgers basketball player."

He continued, "It's an incredible place...and it hurts, again, for me to be the reason why it's not looked upon as well as it should."

"That was a hard lesson learned that's for sure," said Rice. "There is going to be a different message. There is going to be a different Coach Rice."

Rice also spent five weeks of therapy in Houston with former NBA player John Lucas, who runs a treatment and recovery center for athletes.

"You're not going to completely change the perception...because that's going to be who Mike Rice is, a small percentage of it," Rice said.

"And again, it's not about making excuses. It's about learning from them. It's about sharing those mistakes with other coaches, and hopefully one day, if I do want to coach again, having an opportunity...That's what it's about."
