Harvard band appears to spell 'penis' on the field vs. Penn (PHOTO)

It looks like these Harvard band members may need a refresher course in spelling — or do they?

During the Crimson’s game against Penn on Saturday, the home band appeared to spell out the word "penis" during their routine.

While certainly amusing, this may not have been intentional.

It's possible that the band was trying spell the word "Penn" and just got mixed up or they thought they were playing Penn State and just ran out of trombone and tuba players.

Either way, it's still funny.

The real shame? Nobody was in the stands to see it.

UCLA and Cal bands troll USC together by reenacting the Trojan War (VIDEO)

On Thursday night, fans got to see the  Cal Golden Bears and UCLA Bruins battle it out on the football field, but during the halftime show, both of the schools' marching bands joined together for a rare show of harmony.

While both nationally-ranked Cal and UCLA football teams mixed it up in a Pac-12 match-up, the bands of the two schools ganged up to stomp on the less fortunate turn of another conference rival — namely the USC Trojans.

Together, the Cal and UCLA bands not only trolled a team both schools hate, they turned it into a history lesson by recreating the fall of the Trojan empire — only with tubas, trumpets and togas.

Florida Gators band told to stop playing penalty tune due to 'you suck' fan chant (VIDEO)

The Florida Gators marching band has been instructed to stop playing its "You Can't Do That" penalty tune after the athletic department received complaints of inappropriate language stemming from the chant.

Over the last decade, students have changed the "You Can't Do That" chant, which originated during basketball games, into "Move Back You Suck" for football games.

Jay Watkins, the associate director of bands at Florida, told WUFT the band decided to stop playing the tune after the athletic department received several emails calling the chant too yucky for The Swamp.

"The reason why it's been stopped is because there have been too many complaints from fans to the athletic department that the student section was saying something else that the fans thought was vulgar and inappropriate," said Watkins, according to WUFT.

Several fans told WUFT they want the 10-year tradition to continue and will do their own acapella version of the chant if they can't have the music.

The real problem is the few whiny fans who ruin some harmless college fun for everyone else. Welcome to these PC times.

Kansas State to pay Big 12 $5,000 fine for X-rated marching band formation (VIDEO)

Kansas State will pay the price for inadvertently performing an X-rated halftime show, after its marching band appeared to form male genitalia being put into the mouth of a rival mascot during Saturday's home opener against South Dakota.

The band quickly issued an apology, saying the band's formation was meant to resemble Kansas University's Jayhawk fighting Star Trek's Starship Enterprise — but many shocked viewers saw something totally different than what was the original premise.

But after looking at the pre-planned chart, who's kidding who?

"If you weren't watching the #KState band at halftime you missed a borderline pornographic formation. So sorry I didn't get a pic," tweeted one person watching the Wildcats' 34-0 win.

On Tuesday, Kansas State agreed to sanctions with the Big 12 Conference: a $5,000 fine and a single-game suspension for the director of bands.

"At Saturday's home football opener Kansas State University fell short of its obligation to conduct itself in a consistent manner with the principles of sportsmanship," said university president Kirk Schulz. "Good sportsmanship is part of the Wildcat way; we do not want to do anything that takes away from the tremendous efforts of our student athletes and the award-winning Pride of Wildcard Land marching band."

And there now must be "prior approval for the content of all band halftime shows" by the school's Office of Student Life and athletic department.

Big 12 just took on a whole new meaning.

Former Southern U player uses marching band to pop the question (PHOTOS)

Former Southern University fullback Calvin Mills needed a little help from friends to propose to his girlfriend Brittney Ramsey Saturday afternoon.

So Mills used the school's famous marching band to help him pop the question during halftime of the Bayou Classic in front of 41,000 people.

He even used Ramsey's young daughter as ring bearer in a giant box as if the the whole band thing wasn't big enough.

And she said yes.

Well played. That's an unique twist on taking a knee on the football field.

Adorable 5-year-old drum major leads high school marching band (VIDEO)

Lately we've been wowed by the amazing half-time formations of the Ohio State marching band but sometimes it only takes one person to make your jaw drop — one little person.

Tiny 5-year-old Taranza McKelvin made his drum major debut Saturday but not before leaving a giant impression after leading his Florida high school marching band to a crowd-pleasing performance. 

All eyes were on the pint-sized McKelvin — who is even shorter than his baton — when he led the Glades Central band on to the field for the annual high school football Muck Bowl on Saturday.

Despite performing at an event that attracts crowds of up to 25,000, Taranza looked like an old pro as he confidently strutted his stuff with the band.

"That was his debut," band director Charles Moorer told the Palm Beach Post. "And he took it and ran with it."

As expected, the little drum major took it all in stride.

 "I was nervous when I first got out into the field, but then I just performed," he said. "I love performing in front of a lot of people. It’s really exciting." 

Taranza only started practicing with the band in September, but was quick to pick up the moves recounted Moorer. 

"What was so amazing was that he would catch on to most of the steps and movements quicker than a lot of the high school students," he said.

His natural talent was evident on Saturday, as he danced, marched and strutted while blowing a whistle and wearing a white suit and burgundy cape.

"His father mentioned it last year when he was 4 and I was very, very hesitant about it due to the big age gap between him and the other students," Moorer said. 

But the band director was blown away when he saw Taranza perform.

"He did his performance and the crowd just loved it," said Moorer.

And think, it's only about nine years until Taranza is actually a high school freshman.

OSU marching band's halftime tribute to Hollywood is a blockbuster (VIDEO)

The Ohio State University marching band wowed the crowd two weeks ago by reanimating Michael Jackson doing a Moonwalk across the field. But during their halftime show Saturday, fans were treated to blockbuster tribute to Hollywood that deserves an Oscar.

As always, the music from film scores like Superman and Jurassic Park were great but it was the band's marching formations — bringing the classic films to life — that were the most impressive. 

While playing the Harry Potter theme, the band took the formation of Harry riding a broomstick that moved across the field to chase a golden snitch.  

Their Tyrannosaurus Rex for the Jurassic Park tribute actually swallowed up one of the band members.

The grand finale involved two ships fighting each other while the band played music from Pirates of the Carribean. One of the ship's sails had the OSU insignia on it, and the other had their rival's —  the University of Michigan. Needless to say, Michigan's ship was sunk by a thunderous cannon.

In case you didn't know the Ohio State University Marching Band puts on a half-time show that shouldn't be missed— here's proof.

During their latest performance — a tribute to Michael Jackson’s Bad album, released 25 years ago – the band entirely justified their claim to be The Best Damn Band in the Land.

In a routine during Saturday’s game against the University of Iowa, the band’s 225 musicians played a medley of hits, including the title track, Billie Jean, The Way You Make Me Feel and Man in the Mirror – but it was the formations that make your jaw drop.

They seamlessly moved from one to the other — at one point forming the word "Bad" and the crown that adorns the album cover.

The most impressive moment, though, arrived during Billie Jean, when the band formed an image of Michael Jackson himself (04:15), complete with a white glove —  and then moonwalked. All that was missing was Bubbles the Chimp.

Footage of the clip, posted to YouTube, has gone viral, with over two million views to date.
