Georgia Dome security practices chasing down field-storming fans

The Lone Wolf field crasher. We've all seen them and we all hate them. And now one security force is preparing to nip the problem in the bud.

Here we have the security staff at the Georgia Dome hard at work, practicing its pursuit and takedown techniques ahead of Friday's preseason game between the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans.

The Tennessean's Jim Wyatt snapped a picture of security officers on the field, perfecting their fan-catching skills in a staged field rush.

Why not release a few wiry, fresh-legged college idiots onto the field, chased by fat, taser-armed security, and turn fan-catching practice into a fun halftime show too?

Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick went to Harvard, and his son Brady seems to have inherited a lot of pop's academic skills.

After Fitz put up big numbers — he threw for 358 yards and six touchdowns in a 45-21 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday — young Brady dazzled everyone with a few of his own at the postgame press conference.

Fitzpatrick challenged a reporter to throw out a few random numbers at the end of the press conference and, in a matter of seconds, Brady was able to multiply 93 by 97 in his head.

Now if Brady can throw a football, Harvard will probably be calling soon.

Chris Simms lands football analyst gig at CBS: Report

Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms will continue following in his father Phil's footsteps and into the TV booth for CBS this fall.

Simms — who played in parts of five seasons for the Buccaneers, Titans and Broncos, but never fully recovered from a life-threatening ruptured spleen early in the 2006 season — will be analyzing three relatively low-profile games for the network, beginning with the Titans-Bengals matchup in Week 3.

The 34-year-old New Jersey native has never worked a minute in the booth of an NFL game but did work a few college games for Fox last season.

But dad thinks his son is a natural and has a lot of football knowledge under that shock of familial blond hair.

"I think he has great potential,"' Phil said. "He was raised to do it in this way. Him, me, my wife, anyone who walks into our house, most likely the conversation is going to center around football and we're going to talk about it. That's the way we've been our whole lives."

CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus went even further: "He's better looking and more articulate than his father is; he got his good looks from his mother . . . We're starting him very slowly on a few small games and we'll see how he grows, but he's got a great football mind and has worked not only as a player but as an assistant coach also." 

Simms had worked as a coaching and scouting assistant for the Patriots, but with two young children he sought a more family-friendly schedule. 

"I struggled with that," he said. "I was offered another job in the NFL, and that sparked a discussion with my wife: Are we going to live this life and move every two or three years to climb the ladder? This is a little more stable.

"My kids can grow up. This is still work. but I get home at a decent hour and see my kids every night."

Younger Simms' current job is as an analyst for Bleacher Report so he's knows what is going on around the league.

"I have to know everybody," he said. "I really know, I'm not going to say everything, but a lot about every team."

The big question remaining now is whether or not he'll say Redskins?

Jimmy Graham dunks twice over crossbar, gets two penalties (GIF)

Despite the offseason rule change that penalizes dunking over the crossbar, Jimmy Graham did it twice during New Orleans' 31-24 preseason win vs. the Titans Friday night.

Not once, but twice!

The first time, the tight end had just caught a touchdown pass from Luke McCown when he ran to the post and dunked it full force. He immediately was hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Then, later in the second quarter, Graham did it again. Touchdown catch, dunk, flagged for another 15-yard penalty.

Graham is largely at fault for the dunking ban after his signature touchdown celebration was deemed a distraction by the NFL. Last November, when one of Graham's "dunks" made the crossbar crooked, a game in Atlanta was delayed while workers straightened out the askew goal post.

Saints head coach Sean Payton largely ignored Graham's first indiscretion Friday but became peeved at his player's one-man protest the second time around.

"Yes, I was. I'm very upset. Would you be upset? I was, particularly," Payton told reporters after the game, via NOLA.com.

You can bet Graham won't be pulling this during the regular season.
