Arizona football team's Maori haka war dance draws Kiwis disdain (VIDEO)

After the University of Arizona football team performed the haka war dance made famous by New Zealand's All Blacks rugby team before Saturday's game against UCLA, some natives of the country down-under are claiming the American team's use of the ritual is disrespectful and insulting to its indigenous people.

Video of the Wildcats' use of the intense pre-game stomp-and-chant has attracted a lot of attention online, but some critics have slammed the team for insulting the tradition of New Zealand's Maori.

The intimidating war dance, characterized by synchronized, threatening gestures and rhythmic yells, the haka has long been performed by the New Zealand rugby team — the All Blacks — before they play a match.

The Wildcats and other American teams have occasionally performed their own version of the renowned '"Ka Mate" haka for years and believe their performances are a fitting tribute to the warrior tribe. But, according to the New Zealand Herald, many Kiwis see the American version as a dig at their culture and nothing more than a comical pre-game floor show.

And while Arizona's less intense rendition was okay, the team might want to work on their fierceness. They got blown out by the Bruins 56-23.

The second-ranked Oregon Ducks lost at home last night (this morning?) to Arizona 31-24, partially due to a ridiculous taunting penalty called at a crucial moment of the game.

Oregon defensive lineman Tony Washington sacked Arizona quarterback Anu Solomon on third down, but after the fourth quarter play ended Washington bowed toward the sideline in celebration and was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.  

The controversial call took Arizona's position of having fourth-and-goal from the 17 and turned it into a first down at Oregon's eight yard line. Three straight Terris Jones-Grigsby rushes later, the Wildcats scored a touchdown for the decisive 31-24 lead.

Maybe Washington should have just told the overzealous officials he was praying.

Yes, that was Ken Griffey Jr. wielding a camera with the 600mm lens on the sidelines of the Advocare V100 Bowl Tuesday.

Griffey, who recently joined Instagram, has been sharing a fair number of photos through Twitter and was on the Independence Stadium field as a credentialed media member for ESPN.

Hopefully, the former Seattle Mariners slugger snapped some nice shots for ESPN, but there was one photo that will definitely be front and center in his family's storied album after Griffey's son, Trey, scored his first career touchdown for the Arizona Wildcats. Trey, a receiver, hauled in a 26-yard touchdown against Boston College and scored again later.

And there's no question where Trey got that leaping ability.

Old guy kicks loudmouth ASU student section fan in face, students retaliate (VIDEO)

We know old people like the dry air of Arizona but, apparently, not the Arizona State and Arizona students that come with the territory. After a fan in the ASU student section pissed off this old guy, the situation escalated into a full-out brawl at last weekend's Duel in the Desert game.

The annoyed old guy does a perfect front-snap kick to the loudmouth's face then gets jumped by the surrounding students — but still manages to continue throwing haymakers at the punk kids.

Don't cut in front of the pudding line if this guy is standing there.
