Baron Davis wanted to clear the air after a photo of the New York Knicks backup point guard appeared on numerous websites which characterized him as simulating smoking a joint to celebrate making his first basket in a Knicks uniform during Tuesday night's game against the New Jersey Nets.
The photo— taken from the MSG Network— showed Baron putting his fingertips to his mouth like he was toking on a roach after he sunk a three-point shot.
Davis tweeted and his agent Todd Ramasar confirmed to The New York Post that the point guard was just blowing a kiss.
Last night, Jeremy Lin's new backup tweeted, "To clear up rumors, I was kissing my hands after I shot the 3 last night. Kissing the 3 was all I was doing. Stop fishing and hating plz."
Ramasar said he was angry that the gesture was taken out of context.
"He wasn't making gestures of smoking," said Ramasar. "Baron was making gestures of blowing kisses on his three. That's ridiculous anyone would insinuate he was making smoking gestures."
It does look like he is imitating one of those chefs drawn on a pizza box and saying, "Hey! That's a good shot."
Baron was making his Knicks debut and came off the bench for 10 minutes during the 100-92 loss.
He was playing his first NBA game since April with the Cleveland Cavaliers and finished with three points, one assist and a turnover.
The NBA did not comment.

ReplyDeleteWHO CARES!!!! we ask 2 things of these athletes play ball, and play it good. so what if he made a gesture who is he hurting? thers nothing "spoiled" or "unintelligent" about it. he celebrated a 3point shot good for him he is HUMAN!!!!
ReplyDeleteand for the recored athleles w/ no emotion is boring
basketball players smoke weed? no
ReplyDeleteI know of a good friend of Baron, and is a big weed smoker....just sayin...birds of the same feather, flock together....hahaha
ReplyDeleteGo Baron! Miss you in Cleveland! Keep the 3's coming!!
ReplyDeleteno no .. seriously that is how you blow kisses to your pot dealer.
ReplyDeleteHe done that before...I seen him over the years do that...
ReplyDeleteDavis shovels it pretty good. The lame explanation of his joint smokin' act speaks volumes about his view for the intelligence of fans (meaning, zero).
ReplyDeleteHey Todd Rasamar... pull your head outta your keester. "That's ridiculous anyone would insinuate he was making smoking gestures." Dude... did you see the picture?
ReplyDeleteIs it illegal to make the "pot smoking gesture"? WHO CARES???? I don’t pay to see the morality of the players in the NBA. I pay to see them “light it up”. Run faster, jump higher, hit harder. No more, no less. Baron, you da man son! Now toke up, shoot up, snort up, whatever it takes to become relevant again and get your arse to the Lakers! We need to kid! Trade Peace and Walnuts w/Barnes-Blake, your choice. Knicks have too many guards for you to get real time. Let’s get this show rolling again! You-Kobe-Gasol-Bynam-and what’s left make a run in the West and maybe more.
ReplyDeleteBaron Davis is retiring with the Knicks so move on with your life please and thank you
DeleteIT LOOKED LIKE A FLYING A$$ HOLE PUCKIN UP OR THE OG SIGN FOR BLOODS??? HE IS ITALIAN ALL OF SUDDEN TALKING WITH HIS HANDS???
ReplyDeleteBaron Davis is washed up trash and a loser. Of course is was a pot smoking gesture.
ReplyDeleteYou people make me laugh. Anybody who has watched the sport of basketball knows that the gesture he made (Touching your pointer finger to your thumb with your other three fingers extended) represents a made 3 point shot. I am guessing that you all think when Jason Terry makes a 3 point shot and runs down the court impersonating a Jet, what he is actually doing is pretending he is holding two joints, one in each hand, right? What a joke.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely the sign you make when you drain a three. Like it said above anyone who actually watches basketball knows that is the universal sign for a trey.
ReplyDeleteOn the other side of things if it was a sign for smoking a doob then big whoop. But it most certainly wasn't. Media is always looking for a story even when Jeremy Lin is probably the best sports story of the year right now.
