Yankee players make fake chalk outline of body mocking Eduardo Nunez's injury (VIDEO)

A day after Yankees infielder Eduardo Nunez fell to the turf in Toronto, a couple of his teammates made a tape outline of his body on the Rogers Centre infield before Wednesday night's game against the Blue Jays.

At the same spot where Nunez went down on the field, Vernon Wells and Joba Chamberlain made a mock chalk outline of the accident-prone infielder on the turf with athletic tape. There was also a wheelchair placed in front of his locker. Nunez laughed when he saw the wheelchair and immediately accused Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter of having something to do with the prank.

 "I think these guys have to be part of this," Nunez said. "For sure, I’ve got to find out. Do something, too."

"The video is funny," Nunez said of the clip (see below) of him falling down. "I know. Weird things happen to me all the time, I guess. Now it’s funny because I (didn’t) break my knee, but that wasn’t (Tuesday) night. Now I’m laughing."

The pre-game levity didn't last for long. By the end of Wednesday night, Nunez sounded more frightened than bent on prank revenge.

When Nunez tried to run in batting practice before the Yankees’ 7-2 loss to Toronto Wednesday night, pain flared up in his knee again and he was scratched from the lineup. Now he’ll be getting an MRI Thursday and the infielder is worried that he’s hurt badly enough that he could miss a few weeks.

That's no laughing matter to the depleted Yankees infield.

Chris Stewart holds on to ball after second-out collision at plate; Gets up thinking it's third out

The Yankees and Athletics had been putting up nothing but zeroes since the third inning and with one out in the bottom of the 15th of a 2-2 game between the Yanks and A's, Coco Crisp blooped the ball out to left field. Brandon Moss represented the winning run on second base and raced home after the ball landed just in front of Vernon Wells. Wells, running in hard, played it off one hop and threw a strike to catcher Chris Stewart.

Stewart was promptly run over as the ball and Moss arrived at roughly the same time, but he was able to hold on, record the second out and keep this game going. 

Stewart looked confused going into the at-bat or he was a little groggy after the head-on collision because he thought the inning was over.

Stewart's defensive gem was all for naught.  The A's went on to 3-2 victory in the 18-inning marathon after Mariano Rivera gave up a bases-loaded single giving the A's a three-game sweep over the Yankees.

No glove, no problem.  At least for this fan.

Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez could only watch as Vernon Wells' home run sailed over his head into the hat of a fan wearing a nice blue windbreaker Wednesday night. Wells' two-run blast into the Coors Field seats gave the Yankees an early 2-0 lead.

Wells had a big night. Later, the Yankees' outfielder even got a chance to play third base for the first time in his life and had an assist for one out in the ninth.  The Yankees would eke out a wild 3-2 win.
