U.S. Army reservist hears national anthem during pole vault, stops mid-attempt and stands at attention (VIDEO)

In an amazing moment of patriotism last week, a USA pole vaulter who was in the middle of a qualifying jump at the Olympics stopped short on the runway with pole in hand to stand at attention when he heard the Star-Spangled Banner coming from a distant loudspeaker.

US Army reservist Sam Kendricks from Mississippi, was running pole in hand when he heard the first notes of the national anthem and his love of country took precedence. 

A video released by NBC Olympics shows the second lieutenant in the midst one of his attempts to qualify that day but, instead, the 23-year-old stopped dead in his tracks and let go of the pole to respectfully stand still. 

Kendricks, a former track star at Ole Miss, looked a bit confused as he remained standing for the entire duration of the song.

When it was over, the soldier clapped and promptly picked up the pole and went on to jump.

It is unclear whether Kendricks received any penalty for stopping in the middle of a run, but he qualified and went on to win the bronze medal last week — clearing 5.85 meters — over 19 feet.

Kendricks' decision has earned him the respect of many on social media, who commended him for his respectful act.

But my question is why NBC took so long to publicize it?

Ole Miss fan allegedly assaulted by police during LSU game (VIDEO)

Police officers working during Ole Miss' 38-17 win over LSU on Saturday appear to have assaulted an Ole Miss fan inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium during the game.

Shocking video shows the moment a university police officer appears to punch Chris Barnes, a soldier with the National Guard, while he was at the game with his wife, Holly, after three officers approached him and tried to remove him from the stands.

His family say he had done nothing wrong and that police had mistaken him for someone who had thrown a cup from a few rows behind, reported the Clarion-Ledger.

Barnes appears to be arguing with the cops and, as he tried to resist their attempts to eject him from the game, one officer punched him in the eye.

A video posted on Facebook by Holly Barnes shows the three police officers confronting her husband and wrestling him to the ground when he refused to leave.

She claims her husband suffered a concussion andorbital wall and maxillary sinus fractures as a result of the assault.

The Oxford Police Department confirmed Sunday morning the officers in question don't work for the department.

"The officers involved are not officers with the University Police Department, but are certified officers from other jurisdictions hired to work security at home football games," wrote Ole Miss campus police in a statement provided to the media.

Barnes' family now plan to take action over the "wrongful assault."

Gators ‘coach’ Emmitt Smith wants an explanation about call from ref (VIDEO)

Former Gators star Emmitt Smith was back in The Swamp Saturday night with a sideline pass for the Florida-Mississippi game.

And the Gators legend took his current position on the team up just a notch.

Florida was ahead 25-3 in the third quarter when wide receiver Chris Thompson was called for kick catching interference on the Rebels’ Carlos Davis. A TV camera caught Smith right at the edge of the field wondering, “What’s that?!”

Ole Miss will chow down on alligator meat before playing Florida

Any good ol' boy worth his vittles can tell you how delicious alligator meat is, But, boy howdy, this is one Cajun delight that's gonna taste even sweeter for the Mississippi football team.

Ole Miss' head strength and conditioning coach, Paul Jackson, posted a picture on Friday of what the players will be eating before taking on Florida Saturday night in Gainesville.

Yessir. That's gator... as in Florida Gators.

Hopefully Florida doesn't get the same idea with any Rebels Friday night.  Nah. That would be cannibalism.

Georgia Tech punter tackles himself on fake kick (VIDEO)

Georgia Tech punter Sean Poole attempted to catch Ole Miss by surprise during the Music City Bowl but only succeeded in stumbling his way into a comical turnover on downs. 

During a fourth-and-11 play at midfield during the second quarter on Monday, Poole attempted a fake punt. He received the snap and then took off running rather than kick the ball to the Rebels. The senior took several steps before losing his footing and going down untouched without even reaching the original line of scrimmage.

Ole Miss would go on to defeat Georgia Tech in the Music City Bowl 25-17.

You usually never know when Marshall Henderson is going to let fly on or off the court — but whenever he does, it's usually pretty wild.

Now one of college basketball's most notorious 3-point chuckers is even making a pass look ridiculous.

Eli Manning: I'm No. 3 quarterback in my own city

It takes a lot more than winning a Super Bowl to be No. 1 in New York and— if you believe Eli Manning— it doesn't even make you No. 2.

The two-time Super Bowl winner and MVP was never comfortable in the spotlight but seemed to get used to it over the past few years.  Now, it seems the once camera-shy quarterback of the New York Giants is feeling left out while all of the talk in the city is about his New York Jets counterparts Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow.

Manning has noticed all of the focus this offseason surrounding the other two quarterbacks and had something to say about his inferiority complex.

"[The] New York Giants just won a championship," Manning said to Fox News Channel over the weekend, "yet I'm still the third most talked about quarterback in my own city."

Manning got a good laugh  from the audience at Ole Miss when he delivered that line during a panel discussion hosted by Shepard Smith.  His grin let the audience know he was only joking.  Manning is— after all— getting ready to host "Saturday Night Live" on May 5.

Let's start calling him Shecky.

Manning claims he is more than happy to let the Jets players get all the attention if the Giants keep piling up championships.

"I'll continue to enjoy this," he said.  "And when we get our rings, I'll continue to celebrate our championship season."

The normally low-key Eli will get a chance to follow in the footsteps of his brother Peyton with his own comedy stylings on SNL.  He will become the 10th NFL player to host the show and the fifth quarterback to do it. 

For now, just enjoy Eli's comedy tour.  Next stop after SNL, Tiffany's— to pick up their Super Bowl rings— then on to the White House to be honored by President Obama.

Southern Miss and Ole Miss players find loads of fun in rain delay

During Tuesday's rain delay between Southern Miss and Ole Miss, the players entertained themselves along with the damp crowd by putting on a variety show of creative entertainment.

"America's Got Talent" better watch out.

First, the Rebels of Ole Miss created a human bowling alley which even included the last wobbly pin.

Not to be outdone, the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss made a human roller coaster worthy of any theme park,  then both teams joined in for a casual slip n' slide.



When the rain still didn't quit, the teams did what any group of bored young men would do— have a dance-off.  The competitors did the prerequisite Michael Jackson crotch grab and moon walk before launching into a make-shift mosh pit.

The game was rained out and will be made up at a later date.
