Ole Miss fan allegedly assaulted by police during LSU game (VIDEO)

Police officers working during Ole Miss' 38-17 win over LSU on Saturday appear to have assaulted an Ole Miss fan inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium during the game.

Shocking video shows the moment a university police officer appears to punch Chris Barnes, a soldier with the National Guard, while he was at the game with his wife, Holly, after three officers approached him and tried to remove him from the stands.

His family say he had done nothing wrong and that police had mistaken him for someone who had thrown a cup from a few rows behind, reported the Clarion-Ledger.

Barnes appears to be arguing with the cops and, as he tried to resist their attempts to eject him from the game, one officer punched him in the eye.

A video posted on Facebook by Holly Barnes shows the three police officers confronting her husband and wrestling him to the ground when he refused to leave.

She claims her husband suffered a concussion andorbital wall and maxillary sinus fractures as a result of the assault.

The Oxford Police Department confirmed Sunday morning the officers in question don't work for the department.

"The officers involved are not officers with the University Police Department, but are certified officers from other jurisdictions hired to work security at home football games," wrote Ole Miss campus police in a statement provided to the media.

Barnes' family now plan to take action over the "wrongful assault."

Shaquille O'Neal got on stage at a college bar at LSU this week and belted out "You Give Love a Bad name" and really didn't disappoint.

The Diesel was at Fred's In Tigerland near the LSU campus Thursday night — his old stomping ground — when he decided he wanted to jump on stage with a local band and jam out to the Bon Jovi classic, according to TMZ.

  

TMZ claims Shaq told the band to "follow my lead" ... and then busted out the Jersey band's 80's hit. 

The crowd went wild as Shaq (who was reportedly dead sober the whole time) jumped around on stage screaming the lyrics like any other stoked frat boy. 

 

The former NBA star has Jon Bon Jovi's stage presence down pretty good. The hair ... not so much.

Maybe Shag Bon Jovi should have tried buying the Buffalo Bills.

LSU's Jordan Jefferson Must Have Been Imelda Marcos In Another Life

LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson turned himself in to Baton Rouge police today after authorities confiscated 49 pairs of shoes from his campus apartment on Wednesday.

Jefferson allegedly kicked a man in the head during a fight outside a bar last weekend and police are trying to match a footprint found at the crime scene to one of Jefferson's shoes.

Forty-nine pairs of shoes--  the cops are going to need a lot of foot spray.

According to ESPN, Jefferson is facing felony charges for 2nd-degree battery after Jefferson, and three other LSU football players, were accused of getting into a brawl outside a Baton Rouge bar where a man was kicked in the head and seriously hurt.  Four people-- none of them football players-- were treated at a hospital.

Witnesses said the victim threw the first punch.

Today, LSU head coach Les Miles suspended Jefferson, along with linebacker Josh Johns.  Miles gave no timetable for the senior QB's return.

If Jefferson's college and pro career are torpedoed by this incident, he can always open a Foot Locker store.

St. John's Gets Verbal Agreement From Top Forward Ricardo Gathers

St. John's head coach Steve Lavin hasn't let up in his quest to become the best college basketball recruiter in the nation.  Yesterday, Ricardo Gathers of Reserve, La., who was named 2011 Louisiana Mr. Basketball, gave a verbal commitment to play for the Red Storm.

Gathers, a 6-foot-7, 240 pound power forward whom his AAU coach, Scooter Owens,  called a cross between Charles Barkley and Karl Malone, chose the Red Storm over LSU, Baylor, Oregon, Kansas, Syracuse, California and Connecticut.

According to Rivals.com, the man-child Gathers is the 43rd top-rated player in his class and the 11th rated power forward.

The four-star recruit led his team, the Rebels, to their second straight Class A State Championship and has numerous videos on YouTube highlighting his thunderous slams.  Gathers has been called the most powerful dunker in high school.

Gathers is a man among boys.  He averaged 20.7 points, 16.2 rebounds and 3.9 blocked shots last season.

Lavin scored a big-time coup in getting the agreement from the highly-recruited Gathers.  The St. John's head coach, who is undergoing treatment for prostate cancer,  had the third-ranked recruiting class for the upcoming season.  Gathers is another major coup for Lavin in only his second year in New York.

"I picked St. John's because of the coaching staff," said Gathers. "I liked the way coach Lavin communicated with me throughout the process."

The senior broke a lot of hearts when he didn't pick local school LSU.

"I can't wait to play in New York," said Gathers.  "Watching the movie 'He Got Game' got me really excited about playing there."

Maybe Lavin should send videos of the Spike Lee to all future recruits.

St. John's Gets NCAA Tournament Bid Much To LSU's Chagrin

The chances for an NCAA Tournament bid didn't look good for the St. John's men's baseball team after losing to Seton Hall in the Big East championship game on Sunday, but the Red Storm were given one of the final at-large berths to make the field of 64 for the fourth time in five years.  National power LSU cried that the selection of St. John's is a farce and says the NCAA should take a look at how they select the 64 team field.

LSU (36-20) is claiming that they play in a tougher conference and should have been picked over the Johnnies.  St. John's (35-20) finished second in both the Big East regular season standings and championship series.  It is arguably the best team in the northeast.

For the record, LSU finished 9th in the SEC and didn't make their own conference tournament finals.

The Tigers are screaming that their #23 RPI and 12-3 finish entitles the team to be picked ahead of the Red Storm, who go into the NCAA's with a respectable #54 RPI.

"I would say that this year, as a committee, we didn't use RPI as the hammer that maybe it was in previous years," said Tim Weiser, the chairman of the 10-member NCAA Selection Committee.

If LSU wants to find a culprit, the school should look at some of the automatic-bids awarded to winners of conference championships.
