Two motorcycle racers killed in California track crash (VIDEO)

Two Spanish motorcycle racers were killed in a horrific chain-reaction crash on the first lap of a World Superbike race, leaving the cycle-racing world overwhelmed with sadness and raising questions about what happened on the track.

The deaths occurred Sunday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California during the MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000 race, Monterey County sheriff’s spokesman Cmdr. John Thornburg said.

The track was dry during the race and it appears to just be an unfortunate accident, said MotoAmerica spokesman Paul Carruthers said.

Carruthers said there were 28 riders in the race and thousands of spectators in the stands when five competitors collided on the first lap and the riders and their bikes went flying into the dirt on the side of the track.

Carruthers declined to comment on whether MotoAmerica, which organizes the race, will investigate.

MotoAmerica identified the riders killed as 35-year-old Bernat Martinez of Alberic, Valencia, Spain; and Daniel Rivas Fernandez, 27, of Moana Galicia, Spain. Both were taken to hospitals, where they died.

Four other riders were treated at the track and released. Their names were not released.

It was not immediately clear what led to the crash, track spokesman David Hart said, adding that Laguna Seca will conduct an investigation.

Tubby Smith falls off a motorcycle during Midnight Madness intro (VIDEO)

Texas Tech head coach Tubby Smith looked ready to rumble when he was introduced during Friday night's Midnight Madness event straddling a mean-looking motorcycle.

Too bad the Red Raiders coach was probably more prepared to tumble.

Dressed like Shaft from the old movie franchise, Smith rode onto the court atop the hog with Isaac Hayes' iconic theme song playing in the background.

Then, at the end of the little putt across the court, coach toppled off his ride:

Thankfully, Smith wasn't hurt.

Although you have to admire Tubby's style, the first thing a real biker would ask is "how's the bike?"

Motorcycle rider collides with airborne bike during race (VIDEO)

A motorcycle racer captured the terrifying moment he collided with another airborne bike in a high-speed racetrack crash over the weekend.

The video, uploaded to LiveLeak, shows a trio of riders approaching speeds over 100 mph on the "BeaveRun" track in Wampum, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Just before the frightening collision, the leader suddenly slows and his rear tire gets bumped by the front tire a fast-approaching rider behind him.

The second rider is sent skidding across the asphalt as his bike is thrown into the path of the third racer who captured the scary moment on his helmet-mounted camera.

Thankfully, none of the riders were reportedly injured seriously in the wild crash.

FSU's Nick O'Leary to miss spring training after another motorcycle accident: Report

Florida State starting tight end Nick O’Leary will miss the rest of spring training because of injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident — his second in less than a year.

FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher said the All-ACC second teamer injured his ankle and was “skinned from head to toe.”

O’Leary, the grandson of golfer Jack Nicklaus, caught 33 passes for 557 yards and seven touchdowns last season, helping the Seminoles win the BCS Championship.

It sounds like O'Leary needs a helmet 24/7— both on and off the field. O'Leary was involved in another motorcycle accident which he T-boned a car and flipped over the hood last July.

Amazingly, he walked away from the crash and did not miss any practice time.

Here's a video of last summer's collision:
