Super Bowl 50 ad prices soar to $5 million for 30 seconds: Report

Those Doritos ads are gonna cost a lot more at next year's Super Bowl — 11 percent more to be exact.

Super Bowl 50 is still six months away from being broadcast from Santa Clara — but the NFL championship game has already put some big numbers up on the board.  Like a 30-second spot costing $5 million for the first time.

CBS, which will air the game on Feb. 7, confirmed Wednesday its TV network has sold an ad for that amount.

Last year, the going rate on NBC was $4.5 million.

The last time CBS aired the Super Bowl, three years ago, the average 30-second spot cost $3.8 million.

Speaking on the company's second-quarter earnings call, CBS chief executive Les Moonves reiterated that Super Bowl ads airing on TV would also stream online at the same time, generating even more revenue.

"We are learning a lot, and as you can see, as you read what Comcast is doing, what DISH is doing, is the addressability is becoming clearer and clearer, and that is only good news for us," Moonves said. "The more they know [about their audiences], the more we're going to be able to sell."

Moonves shook his head at a question that suggested the sheer production costs of broadcasting the game, plus incremental sports rights, may make it tough to make money.

"If there's a rap on it, tell them we will take the Super Bowl every single year, year in, year out, forever," he said. "So you know what, if the incremental doesn't outweigh the amount of money you get per spot.

"We're very excited about having it. There's no downside."

Fans of Danica Patrick were no doubt shocked to see her drastic new appearance while filming a television commercial for Go Daddy on Wednesday. The NASCAR driver was spotted looking incredibly muscular while filming the spot at a Los Angeles location.

But Patrick didn’t magically buff up overnight.  She was actually sporting a rather realistic muscle suit while running alongside a host of shirtless muscle-bound men as the cameras rolled.

Along with the muscle suit – which had more bulging veins than a Stallone double-feature – the pretty brunette wore a black sports bra, tiny lime green shorts and mullet-style hairdo.

Patrick is starring in the commercial for Internet domain company Go Daddy, which will air during one of the highly coveted and expensive ad spots during February 2014’s Super Bowl.

The 31-year-old Patrick has been featured in sexy Go Daddy Super Bowl commercials for several years but said she would be turning down the heat factor in the new spots.

It looks like she traded the lace for latex.

CBS tells GoDaddy to tone down Bar Rafaeli Super Bowl ad

One way for a advertisers to get a lot bang for their Super Bowl buck (actually $3.8 - $4 million for a 30-second spot) during the big game is to get it banned.

Everyone from Ashley Madison to Peta has been bumped from from the television lineup because of what is considered their racy or indecent material and got a lot of free publicity for their low morals.

Now, the CBS Network has forced GoDaddy.com to tone down their ad featuring supermodel Bar Rafaeli locking lips with a nerd named Walter.

On Thursday, the domain registry site, already popular for its sexy ad campaigns, released a snippet of the 30-second spot with the Israeli model and the geeky extra locking lips like two high-schoolers during a prom.

Apparently the close-up of the tongue tangling was too much for the CBS censors who deemed it 'indecent."



GoDaddy shot two versions of the commercial for this Sunday's game and will run the less slobbery version — which cuts out the offensive tongue action.

Jessie Heiman, the actor who plays the dorky Walter in the spot, told The Today Show that the pair did 65 takes of the kiss during the shoot.

Talk about residuals.
