Sage Steele shuts down NBA Celebrity All-Star MVP when he starts spouting off about politics (VIDEO)

Using a solid mic pull and a subtle shoulder check, ESPN reporter Sage Steele shut down Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler, after the singer tried to get political during an interview after the NBA Celebrity All-Star game in Toronto on Friday night.

Butler was named the Most Valuable Player and during the post-game interview with Steele, the 6-foot-4 Canadian resident chose to inject some politics during the live-TV exchange — however the feisty reporter was not having any of it.

"I just wanted to say, it's an election year in the US, the US has a lot it can learn from Canada, (such as) health care, taking caring of people," Butler began preaching after his 15 point, 14 rebound game.

However, in keeping with ESPN's "Stick to Sports" agenda during interviews,  Steele quickly pulled away the microphone and took back the spotlight, using her slender shoulder to push away the Canuck. 

"We're talking about celebrity stuff, not politics," said Steele as she pulled the mic away. "Congratulations on your MVP."

The 35-year-old Butler started the interview at the Ricoh Coliseum by by thanking his hometown. The singer was born and raised in Texas but moved to Montreal in 2000 to attend McGill University. He still lives in Montreal, which is where he started Arcade Fire.

"I've lived in the great city of Montreal for 15 years," Butler said. 

"I've represented Montreal. If you guys want to fast-track my Canadian citizenship, hopefully this will help make me a permanent resident. 

"I just want to say that I'm retiring as a celebrity right now, so I will not be eligible for the celebrity game next year.

"I'm retiring as a celebrity. We brought this home for Canada. 

"Respect to Drake. Respect to Team Canada."

Oh Canada. Stick to hockey, eh?

Bill Clinton gets rousing applause at NBA All-Star Game during National Anthem (VIDEO)

Queen Latifah was not even halfway through the National Anthem at Sunday night's NBA All-Star Game when fans at Madison Square Garden erupted in applause while Bill Clinton, the former President of the United States, was shown on the jumbotron.

Yes, it was the 90's, during the Knicks' glory days of Ewing, Oakley, Starks and Herb Williams, all over again.

The burst of applause happened not once, but twice as the cameras went back to him at the end of the song.

And although Clinton made fast friends with Dikembe Mutombo, who sat next to the ex-prez, the former NBA center — like cigars and stained dresses — took a little shine off all of the adulation.

James Harden got stuck in an elevator before All-Star three-point contest (PHOTO)

Houston Rockets star James Harden tweeted out this below picture at 5:58 P.M. (EST) on Saturday night, alerting his 2.5 million followers that he is stuck in an elevator.

As of this posting, Harden might still be stuck on the 48th floor somewhere and was scheduled to take part in the three-point contest on Saturday night.

Did Carmelo Anthony get police escort to Madison Square Garden (VIDEO)

Carmelo Anthony, who's finding it hard to receive any help from the big shots in the Knicks front office, finally got an assist from one organization — or didn’t he? 

On Friday night, the Knicks star cruised through New York City traffic-free after appearing to receive an escort from the NYPD, reported TMZ.

Anthony — who is facing surgery on his sore left knee — posted an Instagram video after 6 p.m. Friday that shows his car trailing a vehicle with blaring sirens and lights. Both cars drive against 34th Street traffic while avoiding the chaos of All-Star Weekend as Melo makes his way to Madison Square Garden.

"Ain't nothing like a police escort, boy, in all this traffic," Melo says during the 17-second clip.

However, a New York Police Department spokesman had not heard that Anthony received an NYPD escort.

“As a policy, we do not give police escorts through traffic for celebrities,” the spokesman said.

Kanye’s NBA All-Star concert pisses off Manhattan residents: Report

Kanye West is already feeling the wrath of fans angered by his upstaging of Beck at the Grammys on Sunday. But now the rapper is now being criticized for for headlining an NBA All-Star event in the middle of one of Manhattan's busiest neighborhoods.

West was identified by Jay Z’s company Roc Nation as the ­A-list performer who will stage a 45-minute concert on Thursday in the Flatiron District before the NBA All-Star weekend begins — a move that is coming under fire from area residents.

The concert will be held at the Flatiron Plaza at 23rd Street and Broadway — a major crossroads that borders Madison Square Park. Jay Z will attend, but it’s unclear if he will perform. Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the free show — and that's a conservative estimate.

Not surprisingly, a party will reportedly be held afterward at Jay Z's popular 40/40 Club just blocks away on West 25th Street.

City officials and the local leaders had said the concert was being organized by a third-party producer working with the NBA. But the NBA has since distanced itself from the event after community backlash.

After days of 24/7 construction where over one hundred granite blocks and planters will have to be moved, as well as a Citi Bike dock and two solar-powered phone charging stations, Manhattan Community Board Five expressed its concerns regarding the event.

Officials said the city will not make any money from the concert but will use the event fees to recoup sanitation and police costs.

The entire All-Star weekend is expected to bring in almost $200 million to the city, officials said.

Deron Williams: I don't deserve to be in All-Star Game

If the NBA All-Star teams were based on performances since the new year began, Deron Williams might accept the honor without hesitation.  But, based on his play over the course of the season, the Brooklyn Nets point guard doesn't think he should be headed to the mid-season showcase in Houston.

"No," an unblinking Williams said when asked if he was having an All-Star season.  After he was asked to elaborate, he simply stated:

 "I just think there's people playing better than me."

Since the ball dropped in Times Square, the three-time All-Star has been on a tear, averaging 19.5 points, 8.3 assists and shooting almost 47% from the field heading into Tuesday night's game against the Raptors.

For the season, he is averaging 16.8 points and 7.7 assists and is currently the third leading vote getter among the Eastern guards.

With Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade almost assured of starting spots for the Eastern Conference, Williams should be named as a reserve.

The All-Star Game takes place Feb. 17 at the Toyota Center in Houston.

The All-Star starters will be announced Thursday night on TNT.

NBA looking to add Jeremy Lin to All-Star Weekend

The NBA is giving serious thought to finding a way to get the season's biggest story down to its All-Star Weekend festivities in Orlando.

The idea of adding Jeremy Lin to the All-Star roster may be a hard sell considering the New York Knicks sensation has only five career starts; but it sounds like the league will somehow find a way to bring Linsanity to the party.

According to the New York Daily News, the NBA is trying to maximize the attention Lin is receiving and bringing the Knicks point guard down to the All-Star weekend is a no-brainer.

According to the Daily News source, the NBA is hoping to add Lin to its NBA All-Star lineup by having him participate in the Haier Shooting stars competition during All-Star Saturday night.  The competition features one current NBA player, one current WNBA player and one TNT on-air talent and legend on each team.

While it may hard to swallow the thought of a player who was cut by two teams and sitting on the Knicks bench just two weeks ago playing alongside Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Derrick Rose, the NBA knows the underdog Lin is too big a money-maker to keep away.
