Awesome moment cop stops patrol to toss football with lonely boy (VIDEO)

When you think of police dashboard cameras you usually imagine car chases, DUI stops and generally bad things. That's why this dash-cam video is so awesome.

This Texas patrol car dash-cam captured the heart-warming moment a police officer took time out from cruising his beat to toss a football with a lonely young boy.

Footage from the in-car camera was uploaded by Rosenberg Police Department to their Facebook page, with the caption: "While a 2 minute game of football might not mean anything, to some it could mean everything!"

Sgt. Ariel Soltura has been praised for reaching out to the community by having a quiet game of toss with the 10-year-old, who now says he wants to be a policeman or a professional football player.

Comments under the Facebook page video range from "You guys have got community policing nailed down perfectly" to accusing the officer of "wasting taxpayers money."

Father forces young son to run alongside car for ‘football training’ (VIDEO)

A controversial video has surfaced showing a father forcing his young son to run alongside his car for “football training” while using expletives to encourage him go faster.

The little boy, only about 5-years old, does his best to keep up with the large vehicle while running in Crocks but — as the disturbing video shows — it's not good enough for the father who barks out commands.

"We're going eight miles per hour. Come on. Pick that s--t up," the unidentified father calls.

"This is how we train for football," he says in a Texas drawl. "Daddy drives while you run. Get your little a-- in shape."

Once outside their home the boy momentarily stops, bends over and complains about his hip hurting.

"I don't want to hear about no excuses," the father replies. "Do you want to play for the Texans or the Cowboys?"

Obeying his father’s orders, the boy starts running again as the man’s honking vehicle trails him up a driveway from just feet behind.

"OK, I've got him up to 10 now," says the satisfied father.

Next stop, the SEC or DFPS.

Fired football coach takes players to Hooters despite being canned

The Oregon middle school football coach fired for planning an end-of-season team party for his players (ages 12 to 14) at Hooters went through with hosting the event on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Randy Burbach, from Corbett Middle School, organized the awards night at Jantzen Beach Hooters in the Portland area, but the choice of location quickly sparked outrage in the community.

The Hooters brand is known for waitresses in skimpy uniforms, and the Facebook page for the Jantzen Beach restaurant is plastered with well-endowed, bikini-clad women.

Fifteen of the 23 Corbett Middle School football players attended the event Saturday afternoon, Oregonlive.com reports, after being driven to the event in a stretch limo.

Entering the Hooters parking lot, they were greeted by a crowd of cheering Hooters waitresses.

"[I'm] not allowing myself to be bullied by a vocal minority, is the war I want to win," Coach Randall Burbach told  KGW News  last week.

He said he asked the boys where they wanted to have their awards dinner and they chose Hooters. His own children had a positive experience there at age 12, he said.

Hooters even offered to pay for the awards banquet, CBS Atlanta reports, and will donate $1,000, plus 20 percent of Saturday's sales, to the Corbett Booster Club. 

Burbach told Oregonlive that some players had other commitments, while others didn't attend because of moral concerns.

He told KGW he didn't choose Hooters for its sexual overtones and believes it is perfectly appropriate for families.

"I believe this is a fine venue," Burbach told Oregonlive.com. "It's not a strip club. If you have a dirty mind, you'll find dirt."

Airman surprises son at football game disguised as opposing player (VIDEO)

MSgt Joseph Martel returned home from deployment in Afghanistan a month earlier than his son thought he was coming home. As soon as he got off the plane, Martel joined his wife and made a road-trip to Belgium to see his son Justin play in his high school football game... and also give him the surprise of a lifetime.

As a clever disguise for the family reunion, Martel put on the other team's uniform and hid his face in a helmet — holding his composure on the opposite sideline for three quarters.

Between the 3rd and 4th quarters, Justin wonders why a player from the opposing team comes over and starts to hug him at the 50-yard line — after the referees called a phony meeting to discuss sportsmanship. What everyone ended up getting was a lesson in father-son relationships.

Referee flags school band for playing too loud

A Texas middle school football team was penalized for the band in the stands doing what it supposed to do — play the team's fight song.

A referee threw the flag and told the student band he wanted quiet during the game and warned the Hudson Middle School's band director that he would keep throwing flags as long as the kids kept playing too loud.

The stunned band members packed up their brass instruments and drums and left before halftime.

They sure take their football seriously in the Lone Star State.



Students and parents were outraged at the official's maverick call.

"Hudson had the ball, our band started to play ... and that's when the ref threw the flag," said one mom.  "I know a lot of parents will say football is more important than the band, but us band parents, we don't believe that."

If there is any justice to this story it's that the official was ordered to leave the field before halftime too. Garland ISD, the local school district, told the officiating organization to never assign that referee to any other events in the district.

"This was a first," said the Garland ISD spokesman Chris Moore.  "First and last time it happens here."

Moore said the Garland ISD does not have a policy regarding bands playing at games and it appears that the ref was enforcing an NCAA rule set for college football games.
