Oilers' Matt Hendricks blocks hockey puck with groin, shows off shattered cup (VIDEO)

You can say Matt Hendricks took two for the team Thursday night in Dallas, after blocking a a hockey puck with his crotch.

Men. Get ready to cringe.

The Oilers' forward reportedly collapsed in the tunnel on his way to the locker room for medical attention, but returned to the ice after missing a few shifts.

And if you don't think it was a solid hit, Hendricks later tweeted a photo of his busted cup as proof — thanking Bike and Russell Athletic for "saving my bacon tonight" in the post.

Thankfully, there was no mention of crushed nuts.

"Good thing that company makes a solid product … that’s a vital area," Hendricks told the Edmonton Journal after the Oilers’ 3-2 loss to the Stars.

"I was hurting but I got out unscathed,” said Hendricks, who claims he was lucky not to take it in the testicle.

"We’ve all been hit there before, all the fellas anyway, but this was scary, instant pain."

Video board shames Blackhawks fans at Hurricanes-Stars game (PHOTO)

On Tuesday, a couple of Blackhawks fans looked a little lost at a Dallas Stars game, and don't think that the tekkies controlling the video board didn't take notice of the wayward duo.

That's because the two fans were oddly decked out in Chicago Blackhawks gear at the American Airlines Center for a game between the Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars while the Blackhawks were playing in Nashville a thousand miles away.

And the Stars' video board operator couldn't resist publicly shaming them.

Dallas Stars poke fun at Nationwide's 'But I Died' Super Bowl commercial

If you watched Sunday night's Super Bowl on TV, you were one of the millions left slack-jawed after seeing the somber Nationwide commercial (below) where a fictional kid says, "But I died," revealing that he passed away in an household accident at the end.

On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars Jumbotron operators chose to troll both Nationwide and some presumably random kid with a fan-cam. And the bored-looking teen's face also had a striking resemblance to the mop-topped "but I died" boy.

Just hoping this isn't a trend.

Ryan Garbutt gets game misconduct for spearing Corey Perry in groin (VIDEO)

Cheap shots in hockey these days are a dime a dozen, but Ryan Garbutt's stick to the groin of Ducks star Corey Perry was truly a low blow.

Garbutt was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for giving Perry the old cup check in the first period Friday night in Anaheim — and deservedly so.

The painful poke came in the neutral zone amid line changes but it wasn't missed by the refs.

Garbutt did get the game misconduct and the major — a pretty stiff penalty — but let's see what the NHL Department of Player Safety has to say.

Jackets vs. Stars postponed after Rich Peverley collapses on bench (VIDEO)

There was a frightening incident during Monday night's game between the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets, as Stars center Rich Peverley collapsed on the team's bench, forcing the game to be postponed midway through the first period.

Stunned fans and players could only watch in silence as Peverley was carried down the tunnel without the use of a stretcher with the game stopped with 13:37 remaining the first period —and before the players were sent back to the dressing rooms.

Peverley spent 2:35 on the ice before collapsing.

A short time later, with the Blue Jackets leading 1-0, the game was officially postponed, with details regarding the makeup contest still unknown.

Fortunately, Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff provided some encouraging news before the team announced Peverley was taken to the hospital.

And according to the doctor, wanted to get back on the ice.

The 31-year-old Peverley underwent a procedure in September to fix an irregular heartbeat — which makes this incident even more frightening at first glance. 

Happily, Ruff reportedly told Blue Jackets head coach Todd Richards that Peverley was talking and will be OK, according to Schmidt. It's good to hear some positive news following such a scary scene. 

Sean Avery joining ‘Dancing with the Stars’: Report

Sean Avery is joining the cast of “Dancing with the Stars,” according to Page Six of The New York Post.

The former NHL goon and fashionista has been spotted working out in preparation for the show at the New York studio of Gwyneth Paltrow’s trainer Tracy Anderson, sources told the gossip site.

The move will be Avery’s latest career change after working at high-fashion ad agency Lipman, which ran out of cash and closed last year.

Sources said the well-travelled NHL player recently posted a video of himself online showing off some Anderson-inspired dance moves to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” but the video was taken down.

“DWTS” recently replaced host Brooke Burke-Charvet with sports reporter Erin Andrews.

Other contestants rumored to be joining the spring season include B-listers NeNe Leakes and Candace Cameron.

Season 18 kicks off on March 17.

Sean Avery, the NHL's one-time bad boy, speaking during the on-line "After Show" of Bravo TV's "Watch What Happens Live" told host Andy Cohen and a live audience that  his 10-year NHL career was over.

Cohen, reading from a fan's question aloud, asked, "What are you're thoughts about your hockey future right now?  What are your plans for the future?"

"I'm officially retired," the former New York Rangers winger said.  "I threw my skates in the, uh, Hudson."

"It's in the river," Avery joked.




It's not known if Avery filed any official papers with the NHL and the NHL Player's Association had no comment.

Avery played only 15 games this season for the Rangers after a good training camp.  The team waived him while he was with the team in Sweden preparing for the regular season overseas.

"I don't want to jam up Sean here— I think we have better players than Sean Avery, plain and simple," Rangers head coach John Tortorella said on October 4.

The Rangers put Avery on re-entry waivers on Halloween and he returned to the Rangers after fans at Madison Square Garden had been chanting for his return.

 Avery played only 15 games— with three goals and 21 penalty minutes— before he and Tortorella clashed again.  The team reassigned Avery to the Connecticut Whale on Dec. 30— right before the Winter Classic Game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

He last played for the Whale on Jan. 27 and was not eligible for the AHL postseason.

The troublesome Avery is in the final year of a four-year, $15.5 million contract he signed with the Dallas Stars in 2008.

He played 580 games through parts of 10 seasons with the Rangers, Stars, Kings and Red Wings— scoring 90 goals with 157 assists and accruing 1,533 penalty minutes.

The 31-year-old Avery was a character both on and off the ice.  His chippy style of play on the ice was reviled by opponents and the NHL alike, but loved by the hometown fans.

Outside the rink, he dated celebrities and once interned at the fashion magazine Vogue during the summer of 2008.

Later, Avery's agent Pat Morris told the New York Post that his client intends to retire at the end of the year and pursue a career with an advertising agency.

"I guess that was my retirement press conference," Avery told the New York Post.  "I couldn't be happier about the situation."
