Lightning's Boyle taunts Red Wings' Abdelkader with chicken dance (VIDEO)

Things once again got a little chippy at the end of the third game of the first round Eastern Conference playoff series between the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lighting. And after Tampa Bay's Game 2 win on Friday and Detroit's Game 3 win on Sunday night both ended in fisticuffs, the third game didn't disappoint either.

Well ...  sort of.

Game 2 ended with Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader leaving Mike Blunden a bloody mess after a flurry of punches while the two were at the bottom of a brawl. But when Abdelkader wouldn't straight up duke it out with the Lightning's Brian Boyle at the end of Game 3, Boyle skated off the ice doing a little chicken dance.

Mom reacts as sons Drew, Ryan Miller compete on breakaway (VIDEO)

There was a moment during Sunday afternoon’s game between the Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks when Red Wings forward Drew Miller had a breakaway opportunity against his older brother, Canucks goalie Ryan Miller, late in the third period  — and their mother was in the stands.

Who do you pick? First born or baby? Offense or defense? 

Well, big brother ultimately stopped little bro's attempt with some help from defenseman Luca Sbisa while mom was caught on camera reacting to the play:

Defense wins.

Maple Leafs remember to salute fans after beating Red Wings (VIDEO)

The Maple Leafs have won two games in a row thanks to their 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night following a victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.

And this time the players didn't forget the fans by making sure to take part in their post-game salute by raising their sticks to the Leaf faithful before skating off to the locker room.

It seems the team skipped the stick salute after Thursday's win, sparking a controversy bigger than a Rob Ford bar tab.

And that's a real no-no at Air Canada Centre, eh?

Rick Nash scores 'Buttgoal' against Red Wings (VIDEO)

Rick Nash continued his hot start on Wednesday night, scoring his 10th goal of the season for the New York Rangers against the Detroit Red Wings — using his rear end!

Derick Brassard got the assist for the opening score, but it was Nash's ass which got the goal.

Nash's deflection helped the Rangers go on to a 4-3 overime win.

Call it hockey's version of the Buttfumble.

Red Wings' Smith wants no part of Bruins' Chara (VIDEO)

Nothing represents the Boston Bruins physical presence like 6' 9" captain Zdeno Chara.

And, as the beefed up Bruins team evened up their series with the Detroit Red Wings with a 4-1 victory Sunday, at least one Red Wings player seemed a little intimidated by the big Bruin.

Brendan Smith, at 6' 2", is a pretty big size  himself, but looked like he wanted no part of the giant Zdeno.

It's the kind of scuffle you see outside your local tavern every weekend.

Sean Avery joining ‘Dancing with the Stars’: Report

Sean Avery is joining the cast of “Dancing with the Stars,” according to Page Six of The New York Post.

The former NHL goon and fashionista has been spotted working out in preparation for the show at the New York studio of Gwyneth Paltrow’s trainer Tracy Anderson, sources told the gossip site.

The move will be Avery’s latest career change after working at high-fashion ad agency Lipman, which ran out of cash and closed last year.

Sources said the well-travelled NHL player recently posted a video of himself online showing off some Anderson-inspired dance moves to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” but the video was taken down.

“DWTS” recently replaced host Brooke Burke-Charvet with sports reporter Erin Andrews.

Other contestants rumored to be joining the spring season include B-listers NeNe Leakes and Candace Cameron.

Season 18 kicks off on March 17.

Red Wing fan's photobomb fails miserably during live newscast (VIDEO)

A Detroit Red Wings fan on his way to the Alumni Showdown hockey game during the Winter Festival at Comerica Park ended up hitting the ice himself when he tried photobombing a live news broadcast and wiped out.

As WJBK reporter Jennifer Hammond urged viewers to come down to the see the former-Detroit stars face the old Toronto Maple Leafs greats, a guy in a Red Wings jersey leaped behind her and flailed his arms before tumbling down — all on live TV.

He was acting a fool.

Power outage forces Red Wings to practice in dark (VIDEO)

Things looked pretty dim for the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena even before the team faced the New York Islanders Monday night, after a Detroit brownout darkened the rink during the team's morning skate.

The temporary power outage occurred at 9 a.m. and affected much of The Joe’s lighting, as well as the surrounding area in downtown Detroit, but was restored two hours later as the Wings were wrapping up practice. Although the rink was a little bit darker than normal, the Red Wings adjusted to the issue by simply conducting most of their drills on the brighter of the two ends.

“It’s been interesting for sure,” Wings defenseman Brendan Smith said. “I didn’t know if we’re even going to get to practice at the start but I guess we had to play half ice because half of the rink was lit up. But it’s been alright, I mean it’s just a little adversity but it’s cool to have a change sometimes maybe it will help us out somehow.”

Too bad the team's lack of power continued into the evening and the Isles' Evgeni Nabokov shined brightly— by making 23 saves for his 56th career shutout— in a 3-0 win over the home team on Monday night.

Harlem Globetrotters to play own 'Winter Classic' on ice

The Harlem Globetrotters' brand of basketball has always been first and foremost about giving to good causes.  Now, with hockey-less fans feeling blue about the NHL lockout and the cancellation of the Winter Classic on New Year's Day, the world famous basketball team will do a little something to help fill the void.

The high-flying basketball team will be strapping on custom-made cleats for a Jan. 7 basketball game against the Global Select (formally perennial losers the Washington Generals) and play a game on ice.

The Globetrotters own classic game will be played outdoors at Millennium Park in the western Michigan city of Portage, near Kalamazoo.



Admission to the game will be free.  The Globetrotters will play on a conventional court the next day at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo.

Detroit Red Wings alumnus and Michigan native Kevin Miller will join the Globetrotters and bring a little NHL flair to the ice.

While slam-dunking a basketball on a frozen surface sounds a little dangerous, it wouldn't be the the oddest place the Globetrotters have played.  The team has performed in front of crowds on rooftops, beaches and even the Vatican.

Two years ago the team donned their "ice cleats" for a outdoors game in a rink in Central Park — right next to their namesake Harlem neighborhood.

Red Wings prospect was arrested 'super drunk' wearing Teletubby costume

What do you get when you combine Tinky Winky with a little drinky-drinky?  Nothing good.

Detroit Red Wings prospect Riley Sheahan reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .30 and was wearing a purple Teletubby costume when he was arrested for DUI by Cedar Rapids Police on Oct. 29.

The 2010 first-round draft pick — who was nearly four times the legal limit —  was pulled over for driving his 2012 Jeep the wrong way and was arrested on charges of being "super drunk" driving and giving false information.

One has to wonder if the police recovered any evidence from the TV screen embedded on the cuddly children's character's stomach.

The 20-year-old Sheahan, playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins, was also carrying 23-year-old teammate  Brendan Smith's Michigan driver's license when he was pulled over shortly before midnight  in down town Cedar Rapids.

Sheahan admitted he was carrying Smith's ID to get into bars, according to the police report.  There was no word on how Sheahan obtained Smith's license.

The arrest report, via MLive said:

"Riley had a Michigan driver's license in the license window in his wallet, which is what Officer Dyer used as his ID.  Deputies found Riley's Canadian license in the wallet after it was turned in with his property and he kept telling them his name was Riley.

"Riley is only 20 and I asked him if he had Branden's (sic) ID so he could get into bars. He shook his head yes and stated "yea."

The drinking age is 21.

Sheahan was the Red Wings top pick (21st overall) and joined their minor league affiliate earlier this year.  He has three goals and and two assists in 15 games this season.

Sheahan is looking at charges that could turn Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po's giggles to gasps.  The super drunk charge can "carry up to 180 days in jail with a conviction and possible deportation because he is not a U.S. citizen," according to MLive.

The Red Wings were made aware of the arrest and are monitoring the situation.
