Mitt Romney to fight Evander Holyfield in charity boxing event

It may not be Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, but another highly anticipated fight will take place this May when Mitt Romney enters the ring to battle Evander Holyfield in Salt Lake City.

That's right. The former Republican presidential candidate and five-time heavyweight boxing champion are set to square off at a charity fight night event on May 15.

Romney's son Josh Romney confirmed on Monday that his father will participate in the black-tie event in Salt Lake City.

Both men will don full sparring gear and exchange punches in the boxing ring for a lighthearted fight before the night's three fights by professional boxers.

However, the 68-year-old Romney has no delusions about actually winning this contest against Holyfield — who won fights against the likes of George Foreman and Mike Tyson.

“It will either be a very short fight, or I will be knocked unconscious,” Romney told the Salt Lake City Tribune. “It won’t be much of a fight. We’ll both suit up and get in the ring and spar around a little bit.”

The event is raising money for the Utah-based organization CharityVision, which helps doctors in developing countries perform surgeries to restore vision in people with curable blindness.
Josh Romney serves as a volunteer president for CharityVision.

Corporate sponsorships for the event range from $25,000 to $250,000.

Any chance of getting Hillary Clinton and Ronda Rousey on the undercard?

Alex Ovechkin takes slapshot directly to his boys (VIDEO)

Man gets hit in groin by football is always good for a laugh. But man gets hit in groin by hockey puck? Eh... not so much!

Alex Ovechkin found out his whole commitment to defense is maybe a little harder than he thought after the Capitals shooter took a full on blast from Bruins defenseman Torey Krug right to his nether regions.

And I don't mean Siberia.

And although Ovi didn't see the missle-shot coming, the Russian did make the play.

Indianapolis hotel welcomes 2015 NCAA Tournament with giant bracket (PHOTO)

In preparation for March Madness, the JW Marriott in Indianapolis has illuminated the outside of the hotel with a giant 2015 NCAA Tournament bracket.

Since Indy is hosting the Final Four, it's seems only fitting they have the largest bracket in the country leading up to the big weekend.

Not too much pressure filling out those brackets huh?

In 2012, the hotel had a huge Lombardi Trophy on its exterior the night before Super Bowl XLVI between the Giants and Patriots was played at Lucas Oil Stadium.

St. John's suspends starting C Chris Obekpa for two weeks: Report

One of the best shot blockers in the country might have just swatted away St. John's chances at making the NCAA Tournament.

St. John's coach Steve Lavin announced on Sunday afternoon junior center Chris Obekpa will be suspended for two weeks, citing a violation of team rules — just hours before the selection committee decides which at-large teams will be invited to the tournament, reported CBS Sports.

"If St. John's were to advance in the postseason, Obekpa would not be available for the Red Storm's games prior to March 29," according to the school.

And if the suspension plays a factor in the committee's decision to omit St. John's from the tournament, it means the 2015 senior class of Red Storm players will have never had played a single game in The Big Dance during their four years at the university.

Not to mention Lavin's first time at the Queens school with his own recruiting class.

"All of the young men associated with our program are held to standards consistent with the aims and mission of our university," Lavin said in a statement. "Accountability is tied to the decision making of our student-athletes. It is our hope Chris will learn from this experience."

But Red Storm fans couldn't believe the timing:

Entering Sunday, the Johnnies were slotted as a No. 8 seed by CBSSports.com bracketologist Jerry Palm.

The 6-foot-10 Obekpa averaged 7.0 rebounds, 5.8 points and 3.2 blocks, his rejects per game was fifth-best in the country. St. John's is 21-11 this season and lost in the Big East quarterfinals on Thursday to Providence.

ARCA driver survives crash after car flips over wall and into parking lot (VIDEO)

ARCA driver Will Kimmel was lucky to be alive after his car flew over a concrete wall, flipping into a parking lot before striking at least one parked car at Mobile International Speedway.

The 26-year-old nephew of ARCA veteran Frank Kimmel said his throttle got stuck on his No. 69 car causing the out-of-control crash early in the Mobile 200 on Saturday.

Because there are no outside walls around the slightly banked track, there was nothing to stop Kimmel's car as it drove off the half-mile track on the ninth lap.

Kimmel's car rolled at least once before coming to a halt on a truck's hitch in the spectator's parking lot.

Kimmel later posted a photograph he took with the truck driver to Facebook.

He said in an post-crash video interview with Popular Speed's Matt Weaver, "Unfortunately for us the throttle hung, something we always check for, so it was just a freak accident."

Later, Kimmel accessed the damage and thanked his lucky stars:

John Madden blasts Will Ferrell for playing in MLB spring training games

When Will Ferrell took the field for ten teams during an MLB spring training day stunt which benefited cancer research, most people found it to be a harmless diversion from what are normally considered warmup games.

Not so Hall of Fame NFL coach and legendary broadcaster John Madden who thought the actor should keep his sports comedy on screen and off the diamond.

The daylong stunt was part of a new HBO special from Funny Or Die — which is dedicated to the fight against cancer. Ferrell suited up for ten teams — including Madden's hometown Oakland Athletics — and played all nine positions during games in the Cactus League in Arizona on Thursday.

When Madden was asked about the stunt, he said it showed a "lack of respect."

The 78-year-old Madden called in to KCBS before Ferrell took the field with the A's to discuss the stunt.

"I hate it," he said.

"That's a lack of respect for the game and for what players have to do to get where they are."

In addition to the A's, Ferrell "played" for the Mariners, Angels, Cubs, D'Backs, Reds, White Sox, Giants, Dodgers and Padres.

The Super Bowl-winning coach further explained that when he was coaching in Oakland, Golden State Warriors superstar Rick Barry said he wanted to practice with the Raiders during training camp.

Madden claimed he instructed his players to flatten the NBA star.

"I'm in training camp in Santa Rosa. Rick Barry comes walking by and he was playing for the Warriors at that time," said Madden. "He was a friend of Al Davis' and he said he was going to go in and suit up and go out on the field and practice, to fool Al.

"I swear this is true," claimed Madden.

"Jack Tatum and George Atkinson walked by and I said, 'Look, if this guy comes out on the field, he's live bait and I want you to go after him the way you would go after any other player that plays on another team.'"

After Ferrell's duties on the field, his spring training statistics were posted on baseball-reference.com.

Ferrell is listed 11 times under the March 12, 2015, transactions section of baseball reference.

Among the notable listings for John William Ferrell (Manimal) are: Traded to Chicago Cubs for a washing machine; Traded to Arizona Diamondbacks for a Churro Dog and D-Bat Dog; and claimed off waivers by Cincinnati Reds, Norm MacDonald released.

He's listed as becoming arbitration eligible in 2018 and can file for free agency in 2021.

Motivational speaker Donnie Moore breaks a brick over Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez's chest (VIDEO)

Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez thought it would be a good idea to jack things up during spring training by bringing in a motivational speaker.

So, on an idea from outfielder Jonny Gomes, Gonzalez hired strongman Donnie Moore to pump up the team and ended up having a cement block broken on his chest in the ultimate trust exercise.

Here's the heart-pounding (1:27) video:

Then Moore ripped a couple of phone books for an encore:

And remember kids, if you need to get hyped up, stick to energy drinks.
