Yankees' Brendan Ryan hits ball twice in one swing (VIDEO)

NY Yankees second baseman Brendan Ryan hit the ball twice Thursday afternoon, which normally wouldn't be headline news.

Except that Ryan did it in one swing of the bat.

With one out in the second inning and Ichiro Suzuki on first base, Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello jammed Ryan with a 1-2 fastball inside.

The ball first struck the handle of Ryan's bat, then made contact with the barrel as he completed the follow-through on his swing.

It ended up a single down the third-base line.

What happens when you mix New Jersey football with Jersey Shore culture?  House music and action in the tubs, yo — ice tubs that is.

On Wednesday night with music blaring, smoke machines spraying and strobe lights flashing, the Rutgers football team transformed an area of their training grounds into "Club Ice."

And the dress code allowed cleats and pads.

Even Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood was chillin' with the team.

The team — in the midst of six straight days of practice to open camp, and the first double-session of the summer — are getting ready for their first season in the Big Ten. And what better way to get ready for those chilly Midwestern stadiums than to wheel those ice baths into the parking lot and cut loose.

Jose Molina almost got lapped by teammate during home run trot (VIDEO)

Jose Molina has never been known for his fleet of foot, but this slow strut around the bases could be confused with a leisurely stroll around the park — literally.

During the fourth-inning of Wednesday's Rays-Athletics game, Kevin Kiermaier hit a two-run shot that put Tampa Bay in the lead 3-0. But he had to put the brakes on his home run trot when he almost lapped the chugging Molina before reaching third base.

A smiling Kiermaier was finally able to turn on the burners after the winded catcher touched home plate.

Darryl Strawberry confirms urban legend: Kevin Mitchell cut off cat's head: Report

A wide-spread rumor that former MLB All-Star Kevin Mitchell decapitated his girlfriend's cat has been substantiated after ex-Mets teammate Darryl Strawberry confirmed the incident during an interview. 

The disturbing urban legend goes back to1999, when Strawberry and Mitchell's fellow teammate Dwight 'Doc' Gooden detailed the horrifying incident in his autobiography "Heat."

While Mitchell has denied the story for years, in an interview with Huffington Post Live on Tuesday, Strawberry said it was all true:

"That's a pretty good story. I think that's pretty accurate," Strawberry told host Marc Lamont Hill. "Kevin Mitchell did do that. Kevin Mitchell, he's a different type of guy. Great guy, super teammate...I guess he figured that the girlfriend was acting a little crazy, so I'll kill her cat.

"That's a normal day in the Mets' locker room back in those days, in the eighties," he added. 

Gooden recalled both he and Mitchell's girlfriend tried to clam him down but he couldn't be persuaded.

"Mitch turned to her and raised his anger to yet another level. Still holding the knife in his right hand, he grabbed his girlfriend's little cat, who had the misfortune to be walking near his feet at that very moment. 

"In one awful sweep of his hand, Mitch pulled the cat's head back, exposing its throat. 

'"You think I'm kidding when I say don't ever fuck with me?" he shouted. Before the girl could answer, Mitch took the knife to the cat, and cut its head off. Clean."

In 2002, Mitchell — who retired in 1998 after 13 years in the majors —spoke about the incident with author Jeff Pearlman, who was writing a book about the 1986 Mets. 

"How could I cut off a cat's head with a kitchen knife? Hell, I love animals," Mitchell stated.

All three players were stars on the 1986 Mets World Series championship team.

Juan Lagares saves run with outstanding diving catch (VIDEO)

Juan Lagares was a little slow getting up after making an outstanding diving catch on a sinking liner against the Nationals Tuesday night.

The inning-ending extra effort saved a run but he was shaken up on the play.

The Mets centerfielder was OK and the Mets went on to beat the Nats 6-1. 

Jet Ski goes airborne after terrifying collision with another (VIDEO)

The driver and passenger of a Jet Ski and an innocent bystander avoided serious injuries after their out-of-control water vehicle collided with another one during a crash that was captured in a terrifying online video.

Footage shows a woman sitting on her parked Jet Ski when suddenly she screams and scurries away from her Jet Ski.

Just then, another Jet Ski is seen speeding towards the shore where it collides with the stationary one sending the two riders flying into the air like they were launched from a ramp.

Luckily, the woman on the beached Jet Ski was either warned by her bikinied friend or had the presence of mind to hop off her ride before avoiding what could have been a horrible injury.

The passenger on the flying Jet Ski was tended to by passersbys.

Derek Jeter is awed by Ezequiel Carrera's amazing catch (VIDEO)

Ezequiel Carrera's diving catch Monday night is already being called the best defensive play of the 2014 season. 

The Tigers centerfielder robbed a bases-loaded double — possibly a bases-clearing triple — from Yankees' Jacoby Ellsbury in the third inning at Yankee Stadium and had everyone from pitcher Matt Scherzer to the hot dog guy dropping their jaws in amazement.

And, if you don't believe Carrera's leaping catch was spectacular, it even had Derek Jeter (who has seen everything during his 20-year career) shaking his head and saying wow:
