Kansas-Kansas State Basketball Brawl Had A Lot Of Extras Action

A frightening basketball brawl broke out near the end of No. 3 Kansas'  81-59 victory vs. Kansas State at Phog Allen Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. In what looked like some wild-west fight scene out of a movie, dozens of players, coaches and a whole cast of extras, excuse me, background actors, got caught up in the crazy melee on the court and in the stands.

All that was missing were cowboy hats and swinging saloon doors.

The fracas started after Kansas' Silvio De Sousa swatted DaJuan Gordon on a breakaway as time expired. After the play, De Sousa stood over Gordon and when Kansas State's Cartier Diarra approached De Sousa, the rumble was on. 

Besides the principal players, the action includes a curious mix of casting call fill-ins unsuspectingly making the scene seem like an almost surreal, stage-blocked film shot. 

Props department, make sure a metal stool is positioned so that De Sousa can grab it and cock it back above his head and start the scene.

First, and out of nowhere, there was some dude in white skinny jeans getting involved and setting off a mad rush by players from both teams towards K-State's side of the court. The fight spilled into the stands and disabled section as players from both benches tussled and punches were thrown.

Then, after Skinny Jeans Guy, a whole cast of odd background characters gets caught in the frenzy.

Terrified Girl was the first.

Cue the Male Cheerleader actually holding back A Stunned Cop.

And Guy in Yellow Security Shirt got some prime face time.

Finally, if that wasn't enough, Where's Waldo was even spotted in the scene.

De Sousa was given an unsporting technical foul and a future suspension seems inevitable. All players who left the bench were ejected and could face further penalties as well. 

The two schools will be featured together again Feb. 29 in Manhattan, Kansas.

And the extras ... well, they got their big screen breaks.

St. John's and Seton Hall players scuffle during post-game handshake (VIDEO)

After trailing by as many as 19 points in the first half, St. John's made a strong second half comeback before losing 62-61 to their arch rival Seton Hall Pirates at Madison Square Garden Sunday.

The Red Storm struggled down the stretch as the Pirates almost let their NCAA Tournament bubble hopes get popped by the Big East bottom-dwellers.

Even though Seton Hall (19-7, 9-5) avoided what would have been a horrible loss to St. John's (8-20, 1-14), tempers were still heated in the postgame handshake line when a scuffle between the two teams led to several Pirates players pulling teammate Derrick Gordon off the court.

Things got testy after it appears that St. John's' Durand Johnson had a few choice words for Seton Hall star Isaiah Whitehead after the officials had already exited the floor.

The tense scene carried over from the game after the Red Storm had a one point lead with five seconds left but the officials made a questionable foul call on Ron Mvouika that sent Whitehead to the line. Whitehead nailed both free throws and the Johnnies failed to get a shot off to win it with two seconds remaining.

High school girl's basketball teams have seasons suspended for ugly brawl (VIDEO)

Two Indianapolis high school girls basketball teams which engaged in a benches-clearing brawl Saturday night — a melee that reportedly involved punching, pushing, shoving and stomping — will now have their seasons, and postseasons, cancelled after the state school athletic board took a firm stand against the seemingly increasing rash of violent sports incidents.

Ben Davis High School and Pike High School were in the fourth quarter when one player was fouled; a cell phone video taken during the game then shows a fight break out, with benches clearing and fans rushing the court.

"I know that everyone has seen the video and there is going to be the day that somebody gets catastrophically injured," said Indiana High School Athletic Association commissioner Bobby Cox, who handed out punishments to both teams on Monday.

The IHSAA ended both teams' seasons and they have been suspended from playing in February's state tournament.

Last year, the IHSAA suspended the seasons of two boy's basketball teams after another wild brawl on the court.

The coaches involved will be required to take a role-modeling and behavior course from the national federation and every student athlete in the basketball program will be required to take the sportsmanship course.

Both teams, who reportedly engaged in trash-talking throughout the matchup, will be on probation with the association next season.

The violent game will stand as a double-forfeit, and it is up to school administrators to discipline individual players involved in the scuffle.

A hard foul during an Indiana high school basketball game set off a wild melee between players, coaches and fans before the game was officially ended — while it was still in the 1st quarter!

Griffith's Anthony Murphy was going in for a dunk when Hammond's Tim Echoles fouled him so hard he flew head-first into the wall on the side wall of the gym. Within seconds, both benches emptied and much of the crowd rushed onto the court, where players and fans were shoving and throwing punches, reported nwi.com.

Griffith was leading 4-0 with 5:32 left in the first quarter when the IHSAA officials called the game and the Griffith police cleared the gymnasium.

The head coaches from both teams are scheduled to meet with Indiana High School Athletic Association commissioner Bobby Cox regarding suspensions and more penalties. Griffith police obtained a copy of a video of the fight and were looking at it to see if they could identify any adults coming onto the floor.
