Red Sox bench Pablo Sandoval for mid-game Instagram like

Pablo Sandoval found himself sort of unfriended — make that benched — by the Boston Red Sox after the All-Star third baseman was caught liking some Instagram photos in the locker room bathroom — during a game.

In the midst of Boston’s 5-2 defeat in Atlanta on Wednesday,  Sandoval excused himself from the dugout and liked multiple pictures — including this one — of fellow Instagram user @diva_legacy.

The likes happened at about 9:20 p.m., according to the Instagram timeline, while Boston was batting in the seventh inning. Sandoval was the sixth batter due up in that inning of a game they would eventually lose.

It would be the Red Sox’s eighth loss in nine games.

The social media activity during the game was first noticed by Barstool Sports. Sandoval admitted it was him liking the photos of the woman during the game, according to ESPN, adding that he was in the bathroom at the time.

Maybe he was liking the photo a little too much.

Yankees fans don't have a lot of reasons to be happy about the World Series officially putting a bow on the 2014 MLB season. Besides the realization that Derek Jeter will never play in pinstripes again, there's also that uneasy feeling of knowing Alex Rodriguez is officially back on the team once again.

Well ... at least A-Rod is celebrating.

When Pablo Sandoval caught the final out of Game 7 Wednesday night, he effectively activated Alex Rodriguez from his season-long suspension. More ironic now when you think that there is a distinct possibility that the soon-to-be free agent Sandoval could have the 39-year-old Rodriguez as his occasional backup at third base on the Yankees next year.

The second Panda caught the final out, Rodriguez completed his season-long doping ban — a punishment that outgoing Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig handed down on Aug. 5, 2013, nearly 15 months ago.

Although he served his ban for violating MLB’s collective bargaining agreement and joint drug agreement, A-Rod appealed the original 211-game ban which was reduced to 162 games by an independent arbitrator. So the embattled player may not be out of the woods concerning possible future legal woes.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi has said that the reinstated Rodriguez will be the starting third baseman if he proves healthy in spring training and demonstrates that he still has the skills to play. 

There has also been discussion speculating Rodriguez could possibly play first base.

A-Rod has two surgically repaired hips, turns 40 in July and hasn’t played organized baseball in a year. He’s owed $61 million by the Yankees for the three years left on his deal.

Pablo Sandoval was just a little behind this fastball from Pirates pitcher Charlie Morton Tuesday night, taking a wild swing after the ball was already in the catcher's mitt. 

The Kung Fu Panda's  bumbling hack at the ball was, of course, only a split-second reaction to protect baserunner Brandon Belt who was stealing second base on the play.

Sandoval's cartoonish ploy worked. Catcher Tony Sanchez's throw sailed high into center field allowing Belt to race to third.  He eventually scored the Giants only run on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

Pablo Sandoval Becomes the Bat Whisperer...and Hits Two Home Runs!

Cameras caught San Francisco Giants player Pablo Sandoval talking to his bat just before hitting two home runs to help defeat the San Diego Padres, 7-2, at PETCO Park on Monday.  If the footage of the Panda acting like some burn-out on Mission Street wasn't so cute, it would really be disturbing.

The cuddly 240-pound third baseman was spotted in the dugout sweetly addressing his bat before going deep in the first and fourth innings off Tim Stauffer.  The Bat Whisperer's two homers backed Madison Bumgarner's 13-strikeout gem.

"Just get some hits,"  said Sandoval of his apparent one-way conversation.  "That's what I told him."

Asked if the wood talked back after the motivational talk, the Panda said," Yeah, he said something when I hit it."

Not a nice way to treat a friend.  Tony Robbins would not approve.

 It was the 17th and 18 home runs of the season for the popular Giants player and his third two-homer game of his career.

Maybe Sandoval's Mark Fidrych routine could help the rest of the Giants players bats.  The team is still seven games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Abby Wambach and Megan Rapinoe Go Bear at Giants Game

While U.S. Women's World Cup soccer star Hope Solo is taking it all off for a magazine photo spread, teammates Abby Wambach and Megan Rapinoe are going bare too-- make that panda bear.

Wambach and Rapinoe were spotted at last night's San Diego Padres/San Francisco Giants game at AT&T Park wearing panda bear hats which were, hopefully,  in support of the Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval and not for the Chinese soccer team.

"Kung Fu Panda," as the chubby Sandoval was allegedly nicknamed by teammate Barry Zito,  is a fan favorite in the city of the World Champions.

Not much has been seen of the star forward and mid-fielder since losing to Japan in the Women's World Cup championship game last month.  Maybe it's because Wambach and Rapinoe, who hails from northern California, have been covered up by the floppy-eared panda hats.

If they were trying to go incognito, the two teammates missed their goal.  Oops, too soon?  They were pretty obvious in the crowd of over 41,000.

The Giants won 2-1, behind the pitching of Tim Lincecum.
